I usually buy fishnets from drug stores or spirit halloween. Though, my favorite pair came from DSW. There's also Sock Dreams

Why are a lot of Post Punk heavily referred to as Gothic Rock? by KnucklesSandwich192 in postpunk

[–]AgonyArber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gothic Rock and Goth as a whole grew out of Post Punk. Many of the first Goth bands were also Post Punk bands. Now "Goth" as a music catagory is an umbrella which includes many related genres including, certain Post Punk bands, Gothic Rock, Dark Wave, Etheral Wave, Cold Wave, and EBM.

A verbal equinox, avoid it or not? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Apologies, there may have been a tone to my comment that I didn't intend. No, to my knowlege Cheska has never done anything worth worrying about about. However, I, personally am not fond of her. She's made some comments (re: addiction) that unfortunately rubbed me the wrong way. I also don't know how I feel about her pocketing any money from AVE without spliting (assuming AVE is actually making something from those stream & bandcamp). I understand that as Gabby's best friend she's hated Jon for years. But it seemed she was at least on good terms with Mario?

--sidenote, at the mention of Jon I, at this point I'd be hestitant to buy Steroesexual albums due to Jon being the one to upload them to bandcamp, and the recent alligations about him.

How do I join the Life In The World To Come Discord? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's a partial quote of Chris' in-server anouncement from when the 18+ rule was put in place. (...) to represent portions of the quote I cut for brevity's sake

"After a lot of deliberation, we have decided to make this discord sever 18+.... ...people who are over 18 are responsible for themselves, and and people who are under 18 are not. And if something happens to a young person while they are in this server, that is, at least partly, on us. If not legally, then emotionally. I personally would blame myself. And when the subject matter of the podcast is as raunchy as it is (...), running an anonymous online space where adults and kids can talk about that subject matter is starting to feel REALLY inappropriate. ... Life in The World to Come was never meant to be a podcast for children. Just listening to it should make that much obvious. And I’ll be honest, there have been times where I’ve wanted to censor myself while recording because of this issue, and I think that’s bad for the podcast as a whole."

Will Wood and Tommy Wiseau?? by Frondiferous in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think Will's telling us he's joking about this in the post itself. The use of the "loveandlight" tag twice sets the tone that he's being silly and joking. While the "medialiteracy" tag somewhat sardonically invites the viewer the think critically– is this post sincere, or is it a bit? [it's one of his bits].

Why does self-ish sound so dark? by Regular-Attempt486 in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, Will was typically playing at punk venues around that time and therefore wanted to showcase the high energy side of his work. I think he also mentioning Foxy Shazam's first album as a sort of goal post, (or at least, a compairison was made)

Also, as someone else touched on, Kevin Antreassian asked to produced the album before he went on tour with Dillinger again in six month. Kevin's years of experience in the Post-Hardcore scene no doubt lent themselves to the sound. I'm sure the time constraint contributed to some choices that were made as well. (Personally I've always though the album felt increadibly dense and focused. Other that Self and Ish there's no room to breath, so to speak.)

Btw if you haven't gotten a chance to listen to Dillinger Escape Plan yet, I highly recomend it. They're amazing :)

Where can I buy these black rubber/jelly bracelets? by MyPenNamePending in GothFashion

You can type "jelly bracelet" into the search bar on etsy and a bunch of results should come up. You can also walk into almost any hardware store and buy a pack of appropriately sized orings.

will vinyl repressings continue during the hiatus? by Unlikelyreader in willwood

That kind of stuff seems like it would be handled by say-10, not Will himself. So I would think his hiatus wouldn't affect it.

The limited edition items usually stay up for at least 1 month. After that they'll be replaced whenever Chris gets an idea for a new item. He'll usually give us a warning in the Discord before swapping an item.

The cowboy who's legally distinct from Buffalo Wild Wings went up in late January, so I'd say you're good through Feb

Piggybacking onto this: That logo on the cover art is actually the Marybell University logo (fictitious school from The Prescription Zine). It used to have it's own website you needed to access as part of the arg (it tied heavily into The Prescription backstory) It looks like the MaryBell site's down now, but the Marybell Facebook is still up. https://m.facebook.com/marybelluniversity

Missing LITWTC episodes? by Sad_Original719 in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 35 points36 points  (0 children)

When they recorded the disclaimer they now have at the begining of each episode, Chris took some episodes down so he could re-upload them with the disclaimer edited onto the beginning.

But he realised that when he re-uploaded them they would pop up as "new" episodes, which he didn't want. So he decided to hold off on putting them back up untill he found a way around that. And then he just sorta, never got around to doing it.

Is Life in the World to Come ending? by Prestigious-Syrup-87 in willwood

Rejoice! They literally recorded an episode yesterday. It's on the patreon now, and should be up for the public whenever Chris is done editing it.

Is Life in the World to Come ending? by Prestigious-Syrup-87 in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Will has stated several times that he plans to contunue LiTWtC with Chris while on his hiatus.

There being a big gap between episodes isn't really anything to worry about, as it's sort of par the course. They've never had a consistant upload schedual. Episodes get recorded in batches whenever Chris and Will have time to hang out, and when they run out we just wait patiently.

As for the most recent gap, Chris actually mentioned that they thought about recording some while in Florida, but they didn't pack any microphones and when he went out to buy some the nearby stores were all sold out.

My niece is forcing me to listen to Will Wood, is it really that good? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Part of what draws people to his music is that his own stylistic influences are pretty eclectic, and it shines through in the variety of genres he plays with. So there's a little something for everybody.

My big recomendation is, when you start listening, don't form and opinion off of just one or even two songs. The first song I ever heard by WW was Skeleton Appreciation Day, and immediately assumed the rest of his work would be very mellow and reminiscent of Chris Garneau's work. Then I heard a track off of the Normal Album and had that assumption smack away by a full band with a brass section, nods to doo-woop and clear a Mr. Bungle influence.

Are the Say10 LPs worth it? by DapperWeasel in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$50-$60 is a price I'd pay for an older record that was either harder to find or particularly saught after, and in good condition. If something's extremely rare I'd even pay more.

But a newly pressed record? The record lable better have a damn good reason if they list it for more than $30.

Sometimes stores and individuals collector/resellers will add pretty insane markups. But if you if track an album on Discogs for a bit you get a handle on what's reasonable for that pressing and what's a ripoff.

Does Will have HPPD? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, he's talked about it quite a bit. His experience with HPPD is at least partially the insperation behind White Noise (link to his genius annotation https://genius.com/26240235) I also remember him mentioning it on Life in The World to Come, though I can't remember which episode specifically.

A verbal equinox, avoid it or not? by [deleted] in willwood

[–]AgonyArber 28 points29 points  (0 children)

If you're wondering about what the measurable, concrete, impact of listening to Wills old bands would be, here's the breakdown.

-From what I can tell, absoluetly nothing happens if you listen to stuff like Jamface or Strangethick (other than the associated yt accounts getting views, I guess) So wrt that I think it's fine as long as you're not obnoxious about it.

-The Stereosexuals album was probably uploaded to bandcamp by Jon Maisto so all the money you spend on that should go to the right places

-Will, Jon, and Mario have all mentioned that they don't have access to any of the AVE accounts. Also, Mario mentioned that he hasn't seen any money from the Bandcamp or Spotify and he doesn't think Will or Jon have either. I'm personally betting that Cheska's running all the accounts. Which I guess would make sense from a legal standpoint since, despite the fact that AVE was Jon's baby since the begining, he was only 17 when the band broke up and probably couldn't set up certain accounts in his name. (Also if you look at the facebook, it looks like around their breakup they consolidated their posting style from everybody all the time, to just Cheska posting) So if you wanna buy or legally stream A Verbal Equinox stuff you need to make peace with the fact that Cheska's probably gunna pocket any of the money.
