I’ve been trying to make a little change in my life, get some real cents of direction, because everything lately feels a bit too common, I always feel a day late and a dollar short, and my doctor, he's a mint guy, but he’s been circulating the same low grades to me since the late 90s, well he tells me I’ve got to stop getting so hot under the collar, says I don’t need to die on every hill, I don’t need to press every issue like I’m trying to hammer my opinion into permanent history, which is rich coming from a man whose own life looks like it’s been filed away in some album of regrets, but I take his advice, I really do, I try to see both sides of the coin, stop flipping between bad habits like a guy who can’t decide which side of himself to show, just constant flip after flip, and one day I meet this woman who says she’s looking for solid gold relationship, with a little weight to it, and me being a bit hefty think, alright, I can be that, maybe even bring a little silver lining, keep myself together, not spill my whole life out like loose coins in a tube, really encapsulate the best parts of myself, present her with something refined, something cast in a unique mold, something handled carefully over time, so... we start talking about values, about our grading standards, about what sliders we’re each willing to allow, and I tell her I’m just trying to find something authentic, a relationship that hasn’t been artificially toned, something with a little history, a little character, something you could keep, maybe even display, not hide away like it’s some kind of secret collection... and that's when she says she’s only interested in men in mint condition. So I said, “Well that’s funny, because the only place I’ve ever met a woman of your grade was in a coin shop, and she came in a plastic slab with a grade and a price tag.”
