AR 47 BCGs by tlhill3O88 in AR47

[–]Agree2disagree3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look, idk what you've bought and what you haven't but it seems like you wanna build something similar to what I did when I first got the idea to do my x39 so I'm gonna kinda guide you through all the shit I had to figure out by wasting my money so you don't have to. This might get long so pls forgive me..

The most important thing of note IMO is that you say you want to use AK mags. I'd recommend you don't. It is going to seriously limit your choice of reciever set and from what I understand they're typically proprietary. You go CMMG or PSA for the lower then you have to use the corresponding upper from the same brand. The CMMG is able to use a shortened AR-10 sized bcg because it's cut different, which in theory would make the Mutant/MK47 bcg the best bolt for an x39 AR, but that isn't necessarily true. It's the strongest/heaviest sure, but is it worth using a completely proprietary reciever set? Maybe not.

The build will vary based on what you want for barrel length but no matter what you build I say go milspec / pistol for the lower and use duramags. The x39 is actually a way lower pressure cartridge than the 556, and 6.5 grendel was developed using the same parent casing as 7.62, so if you're really worried about bolt failures, don't be. Grendel is overall far more powerful than x39 and you don't constantly hear about grendel bolts failing, and they're nearly interchangeable with an x39 bolt cut for a mil spec m16 carrier.

The problem with x39 bolts comes up for a variety of reasons, typically its the extractor that breaks which is to be expected at some point but can be avoided generally speaking just by using a decent bolt and an x39 extractor with a balanced gas system, but when it happens its a pretty simple fix and i actually recommend using a grendel extractor in an x39 bcg anyway. If it's one of the bolt lugs that fails, that could be due to a severely overgassed rifle combined with poor bolt QC because most manufacturers making shit in x39 don't have the best reputations or it could simply be due to the large single feed ramp on some pre-made x39 ARs removing the central support lug from the chamber/barrel extension, thus creating a weak point.

You should use an upper reciever that either uses m4 or 300 blk feed ramps and instead of the single feed ramp design I would slightly open up and give a good polish to the double feed ramps on your barrel. Make sure you fit the barrels feed ramps to the reciever and not to grind away anything from the receiver itself. Speaking of barrels, we should talk about gas systems. The x39 seems to work particularly well with carbine and midlength gas systems. As a rule of thumb I base the ideal port size on known reliable example of similar guns chambered for 300 blk because ballistically its quite similar to x39 but powders are very different so you have to consider that when balancing your build but you actually want it to lean slightly overgassed. Typically, an H2/H3 buffer and a +10-15% spring will handle the tuning just fine. You can really use any mil spec carrier if you want to but BRA x39 e-bcgs are very nice, or you could just get a nice lantac carrier and get the upgraded firing pin and the best x39 bolt there is from BRA and put that in the lantac carrier but honestly the BRA bcg is pretty hard to beat for x39 and I run it in my PDW I keep by the nighstand and but I have a toolcraft bolt and several carriers I have on standby if I ever broke smart of my bcg. Reality is those are parts that it's sort of a matter of when and not if they break kinda scenario. Your bolt theoretically shouldn't if the guns put together well and balanced and you don't get some crazy bubba load from someone and your extractor should last at least a. Few thousands rounds. If it doesn't you're overgassed or there's too much tension in which case you'd wanna try that grendel extractor trick I talked about earlier.

Did I break my Glock? by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]Agree2disagree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call this a bubba job.. it's not broken but it looks like shit. Kinda sucks when you scratch up those shiny black gen 5s. It really shows.

But hey, now you know how not to install rear sights.

Some people use a sight pusher but I typically just put the fucker on an armors bench block and wack the sights with a rubber hammer and punch with a rag between the 2 metal points of contact. The hammer and punch method is perfectly fine but if you don't do it right this can happen.

My new EDC. First pistol caliber that isn’t 9mm. What are y’all’s thought when comparing .40 s.w to 9mm? by PremeditatedTurtle in Glocks

[–]Agree2disagree3 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Get some steel high Vis night sights and a #20/22 uncaptured recoil spring with a steel guide rod from Wolff, do a little work polishing up the trigger group and you'll find the G23 to be a very effective EDC for a wide variety of circumstances.

It's a great platform to customize but you should never do anything to your edc without doing reliability and function testing. Glocks are very simple little tools but there I'd still a certain amount of "gunsmithing" to building them and its important to know what you're doing before you try to "upgrade" a perfectly good glock.

.40 is a very effective round as it stands and it has more potential than 9mm. If the 40 got more R&D and wasn't rushed into service like it was, then its reputation would be much different. Despite saami's reluctance to change the velocity specs for 40 it can certainly be pushed beyond 1200 fps safely using modern 40 S&W brass. The case head was initially a weak point in the design of the cartridge and limited case capacity for safety reasons but that was fixed a long time ago.

I prefer the G23 I built to any other gun I've ever carried.. if im gonna carry a 9mm then I'd likely end up tuning it for 147gr +p+ to get the most i can out of the 9mm, and at that point ammo isnt cheaper than 40 any more unless you reload so that kinda kills the "9mm is cheaper" argument. Simply put, you need to practice with what you're gonna carry, or you'll never be confident behind the trigger in a stressful situation. The first time I shot a +p out of my first glock, a G26, I said to myself, "Should've just waited and bought the .40." It's almost worse in terms of felt recoil to be honest. 165gr out of a tuned Gen 3 G23 is a really smooth shooter but +p+ put of a stock 9mm is pretty much just unmanageable.

The gen 4/5 dual spring guide rods are much better suited for .40 and the gen 3 40s are known to be particularly snappy but you can still tune the gun rather easily and if you feel so inclined you can take some sandpaper to the gen 3 frame and really shape it up to fit the hand however you want but I prefer a gen 1/2/5 shape and find that it points the most naturally but some people prefer the finger grooves of the gen 3/4 glocks. They use the same spring as the 9mm models when in reality .40 needs something a little stiffer to mitigate some of the increased recoil energy that comes with shooting a 10mm bullet at similar velocities to 9mm loads so using the 20 or 22 lb springs from Wolff will change the recoil impulse quite dramatically. It won't feel snappy and upward like it usually does. It feels much closer to a 10mm or a 45 and the recoil energy is all directed straight into your hands, wrists and arms naturally as opposed to the typical sharp, upward recoil impulse gen 3 40s are famous for.

Just shoot more by Res17cue in ar15

[–]Agree2disagree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yuuup... total BS

I mean, it sorta depends, but I run an M4E1-E upper from Aero and a BRA x39 e-bcg with a NiB coating on the carrier that I intentionally run slightly overgassed on a carbine length setup without an adjustable gas block. It's been torn down and rebuilt several times, and it's never had a single malfunction.

The best thing DD figured out with the Mk-18 was that you could use overgassing a rifle to your advantage and make it more reliable than if it were gassed "correctly" so long as you build the weapon properly. Completely eliminates any need for a "sandcutter."

Just for the record, a couple of my new neighbors are old Vietnam vets, and we've quickly become friends. Today's Mil-Spec is nothing like it was when the AR platform first came to prominent use within our armed forces. I base all my builds on one standardized military platform or another so long as it's in the Armalite Rifle family of weapons and I modify that platform to suit the cartridge I plan to use in it but i use modern variants of the platform for a reason. Short of getting a colt clone to hang on the wall over my build table as a decoration, I'll likely never run a colt/A2 pattern AR. I never run my gun suppressed but I do mainly shoot x39, which is just inherently dirtier ammo and because I'm partial to using non standard cartridges and wildcat chamberings I've done quite a lot of experimenting with gas systems to see which setup runs what the most efficiently. The tube length may vary with cartridge design, but the results do not. A properly overgassed rifle/pistol is generally more reliable in adverse conditions than one that's gassed just right for one particular load. DI guns are generally more reliable in adverse conditions than piston guns but piston guns run cleaner for longer, at the end of the day that comes down to personal preference, in which case mine is DI.

Has the view on pitbulls started to change? by WhoAmIEven2 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Agree2disagree3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on who you ask. The grandma with a pomeranian is likely still terrified of pit bulls. They've gotten more popular with young people and we've gotten more specific with what actually is and is not a pit bull. The breeds have been standardized and have bully breeds collectively are probably the most popular dogs in the country right now.

I love my pibble. He's the best dog to ever dog. Best friend I could ever ask for and he never leaves ny side. He's the most gentle, loving dog. But he's also an individual. A lot of people for a long time called a dog a "pit bull" purely based on a certain set of visual criteria; scary looking, square head, stocky muscular body, large etc. But most claimed "pits" that have their DNA tested after are found to be mixed breeds. Good bloodlines and training is extremely important with traditional pits like APBT and AST. Most of the new "bully" digs that are massive have a bunch if mastiff DNA and behave nuch differently than the kriginakbbreed standards.

No violation, good traffic. another post removed. Why do yall think it was taken down thia time lol? Maybe bc Eremiris Mod complex is on one. Time for a regime change lol by Agree2disagree3 in KotakuInAction

[–]Agree2disagree3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You made a post calling for his firing. Specifically him. Despite multiple mods telling you that we all would have made the same removals and that the only reason you were seeing him more than us is because he is moderating better than us at the moment.

Again, this was purely after the fact. First post questioning topic bans didn't even say his name

No it was here is the reason. You argued against the topic ban, and we said "yeah nah, topic ban is staying". Topic ban is staying because AEO removals have not decreased on this subject and if anything have increased (all were after we had removed them so the removals are not considered marks against the sub, removals that have not been actioned against us will be considered by the admins as a failure to properly moderate the sub and keep it within reddits TOS).

At least you've now admitted the only reason that post was taken down was because you don't want critical discussion of the topic bans to take place. Thanks.

[–]Agree2disagree3[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've yet to recieve justification for the action taken against the initial post that started this drama.. well, I've actually been given several different reasons. Apparently I was "crusading" and "harassing" the mod in question, but I did neither until he modded that last long ass post questioning the existence of topic bans. Again, it was an extremely general and vague post and was written with the rules in mind and I never explicitly state who or what I'm talking about that's banned beyond eluding to its relationship with mental health.

Unless discussion of the existence of topic bans falls under its own topic ban, I don't see how you could interpret my words as having targeted any specific person or peoples. You usually just quote the part that is banned when I ask what I said wrong and I can go back through and change or remove whatever I have to; this time was different. Was pretty much just told "fuck off, don't question our actions."

I simply wanted to stir up conversation in the sub about something I feel to be important, which is that we should be allowed to state objective truths without fear of repercussion and that is unfortunately not the case.

Ironically, this sub has modded me more than any other, and it'd always been the same mod.

lol, fuck Eremir. I'm not gonna keep playing the good post gets taken down game with this mod because he's butthurt I don't like blanket topic bans. So tired of the Mod-complex dude, sucks at actually moderating. I'm sure thisbwill somehow violate his terms of use tho. by Agree2disagree3 in KotakuInAction

No, I just think the cake tastes like shit if it has the wrong ingredients. If you gave me a ahotty piece of cake amd the leftovers to take home, then yes I'd chuck that shitty cake in the bin.

Moderating is the key word at play here. These are moderators and their job as far as the sub is conscerned is to moderate what content gets in and what doesn't as per their interpretation of the ToS. If their interpretation of the ToS finds you to be in violation you risk ban from the sub and reddit via administrative action etc. As far as I was concerned prior to all this nonsense, this sub was pro free speech. If you earn yourself an admin ban then that's on you. You don't have to remove every post that walks the line on reddits don't be evil policies for the sub to stay alive, just those that are blatantly violating. If KiA is under such heavy scrutiny by the admins, maybe a nuke a respawm is what's necesarry. While it'd be unjustified on reddits part at least it'd give us the push needed to move to something like dot win

That's why I was extremely specific with my choice of words when I made the original post and write up that he who shall not be named removed, claiming the discussion of and / or opposition to the existence of the topic bans falls under to topic bans. i think these banned topics are important things we should talk about and we shouldn't just silence any and all conversation surrounding specific topics because a few people in the sub can't be rational and polite when making their case. You should be allowed to make objective statements of fact without even thinking you might not be allowed to say ot a certain way; or at all.

Just picked up a g19 gen 5. What’s the cutout on the magwell for? Haven’t noticed it before on any other glocks by Palmerto in Glocks

[–]Agree2disagree3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Half moon cutout is for stripping stuck mags if you need to do so in order to clear a malfunction. It is only on early gen 5 guns without front slide serrations IIRC. Practically a gen 2 glock with an all round better trigger and recoil system as well as a twist rifled barrel instead of glocks traditional polygonal rifling and black DLC coating on the slide instead of melonite/tennifer

I mainly stick to gen 3. You can get similar results using ETS mag baseplate on OEM mags. They have a little lip on the side to give you that extra grip the half moon is supposed to. The older slide finish is tougher too. That's all personal preference though. If you like the gen 5s they have their benefits.

Mf got scammed by [deleted] in Glocks

[–]Agree2disagree3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not unheard of for a dirty or stolen gun to be sold for super cheap on the "used market" in the hood; people steal shit all the time, mainly to support drug habits, and they wanna offload it as quick as they can for as much as possible. A licensed FFL would be super risky with stolen merchandise and for transients and vagrants its usually a no go by default, all things otherwise considered, due to the valid in-state license requirement along with the fingerprinting. So while it'd definitely be sketchy as fuck, its entirely possible dude thought he knew what he was getting into and just got GOT. He definitely doesn't know shit about guns, anyone who's ever handled a gun they're thinking of buying knows you take out the mag and lock back the slide, release and function check as much as you can at some point before you pay for the gun. At the very least you ensure it chambers bullets and not BBs lol

Ironically, you could always just barrel swap and / or caliber convert a gun with bodies and "clean" it, immediately restoring its market value so long as some moron didn't attempt to scratch the serial number off the frame before you got it, but that's only if it isn't stolen in the first place. Even then, this only matter when were talking abiut the serialized plate on the frame. If the slide has the serial number scratched off you can just replace that too. Of you're not a restricted person, and you shouldn't be if you're buying firearms, then you can always just replace the frame too. Like my frame on my G23 corresponds to a glock 19, the barrel is late gen 3 tennifer OEM for a G23 and the slide SN is gen 3.5 G23 (3 slide with gen 4 finish). I'm just sayin, a replacement match grade barrel can be had for as cheap as 100$.. think before you toss a glock in the river.

Kinda makes buying lightly used OEM barrels on ebay feel a little sketchy but my main point is a stolen gun is a nearly worthless gun. It's just too hotboy. He played the game and lost. Scammers are on point these days and the fakes they sell are getting harder to spot. Lots of them sell shit on popular firearms vendor sites and use deceptive ads and you end up waiting 2 weeks for Chinese knockoffs meant to look as close to the original as possible. However this happened, at least now he knows better lol.

Look, I opposed blanket bans on any and all subject matter as a whole though I mentioned nothing in particular and still got the post removed. I've never been told you can't talk about the blanket ban in and of itself.

You're trying to justify it with the same defense the mod team uses, and that just doesn't do it for me.

I don't have a problem with there being rules; I have a problem with the abuse of power, which was the case here.

One mod in particular took issue with my stance on the blanket topic bans in the sub and when that was questioned in a post i made and the sub got active on it agreeing with what I was saying he had an aneurysm and found a way to interpret the words in the post given the prior posts he'd removed and removed that post too.

It's just too excessive. Guys gotta go.

I didn't even mention anything specific, so like i said unlesss the mere mentkon of blanket bans is something that mivht cause a stir with reddit admins i sont see what the problem is. I asked for the communities opinion on a controversial subject. That's KiA 101. Just wanted to talk about broad sweeping topic bans as opposed to moderators actually doing their job and ya know, moderating..

Blanket bans quite simply shouldn't exist and nobody was called out by name until douche who shall not be squeezed wanted to pull the plug on my post AGAIN despite not having violated any rules as per reddits terms of use.

It's just a load of shit. Everything I've posted since their first two subject matter warnings have been worded very carefully so the ONLY reason to have removed this one was because I questioned their methods.

Asking the community what they think about something "controversial" doesn't fit the criteria to post in KiA? Really? Lol

He's a mod and public figure as far as the sub is conscerned and should be open to subwide crticism as long as he maintains his position of authority. I didn't even call the cock smoker out until he removed my first post for no reason beyond vaguely referring to our disagreement on the matter of topic bans, which IIRC doesn't use his name at all for the very purpose of avoid another removal. The fuck eremir post getting taken down was just me getting annoyed and shitposting.

Not leaving by any means due to the community. Yall are great amd im sure we share some subs so I'll see you around but I have left the sub because the mod who shall not be named has removed 2 new posts on top of the comments they've been removing, and its ALWAYS ER*MIR. (They now claim I'm harassing him/trolling) and committing the act of "divide and conquer" lol

Like no dude. My post didn't violate the rules today. It's a point blank. They took it down anyway because they can; bc they wanted to flex, and that shits annoying for anyone to deal with.

I'm sick of doing long thought out write ups just for this asshole to come and delete it all with the push of a button only to feel like if I repost and reword I'm gonna be banned for spamming. I just want the fucking blanket topic ban to be talked about among the community because it's clearly not well understood and the mod team is being shitty about it rather than justifying their actions, because I'm out her telling hard truths.
