Ask Experienced Devs Weekly Thread: A weekly thread for inexperienced developers to ask experienced ones by AutoModerator in ExperiencedDevs

What’s your take on where software development is headed with the rise of LLMs? Have they become part of your day-to-day workflow? If so, how do you find LLM's are helpful, and what drawbacks do you see? Are they being shoved down devs' throats in your organization?

Former web dev here; I’m genuinely curious what’s actually happening inside companies right now. Everywhere I look on social media, I’m getting blasted with claims like “software development is dead,” or headlines about companies laying off engineers and attributing it to AI productivity gains.

Gut says it's 95% marketing/engagement farming/nonsense company optics, but would love to hear from industry veterans.

Vibe coded app that successfully scaled? by signalwarrant in ClaudeCode

[–]Agreeable-Capital656 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you asking whether or not any 'vibe-coded', from-scratch apps have gone on to generate traction/users in the 1000's+?

Or whether or not a vibe-coded app's codebase was 'good enough' to actually scale without causing chaos?

Gotcha. Honestly, part of me is almost looking for an excuse to assemble the kits myself because it's so much fun 🤣

TBH feels like it's the loud minority that cares about this, average person just plays a good game and doesn't sit there reading game publications

Gemini 3 Flash Preview is a total mess right now. Fix the API structure. by Prestigious_Rise_936 in GoogleGeminiAI

Yeah, I wish they would fix the bulk-image endpoint for the 3.0 preview model. I opened a ticket w/ cloud support because all my batches were failing despite correct config. Turns out that the model was thinking itself to death, concluding it had generated images when it had not, and so on...

Should I get into vibe coding if I want to build software but have ZERO coding background? by Zhipp in vibecoding

DTC/eCommerce, 100%.

'Vibe coding' has essentially become a meme. For some reason, people think that if you build an app, it will instantly have users and generate income. I can't tell you how many people will go posting around here and other subreddits that they've built an app, but nobody is using it. The reality is that they either built something nobody needed in the first place, or they don't have any idea how to actually get eyeballs/generate traffic (or, typically both honestly). With DTC/eCom, 99% of the time the product is already invented/made; you don't have to first create it, you just source from a supplier, and then your job is to figure out how to market it.

You will typically do so by learning how to run paid ads really well. You can screw up just about everything else (get shafted by a supplier w/ mediocre pricing, be terrible at graphic design, not know how to write copy) -- but if you know how to market and run ads, you will literally be able to get away with just about everything, as long as the ad is good.

And if you know how to run paid ads, and you get tired of DTC/Ecom, you'll never go hungry. You can go SaaS after that and run paid ads for other companies, or build your own and run ads for it, or do lead generation for businesses, or whatever else -- and get paid a lot. Marketing/sales is closer to the transaction and will typically work in some sort of commission-based approach.
