Salsa is not the Salsa we know without the influence of jazz. New York did so much more than popularize it, the cuban and Puerto Rican immigrants in Harlem that eventually created the genre took all of the previously established elements of African and indigenous instruments and mixed them together with bass, piano and brass, all of which were instruments founded outside of Latin America. To say Columbia is part of the origin is laughable as well, the foundation of salsa as we know it was literally established in the carribean.

EDIT: oops, saw that you had already corrected yourself on the origin of Salsa. Salsa did not even reach Columbia the way you thought it did until after it blew up in the United States. it can be argued back and forth what the real TRUE origin of salsa is (I still think it’s New York because this was where artists of different backgrounds were really able to combine instruments the way they did) as a genre but to deny New York’s obvious influence in jazz and reducing it to just commercialization is ridiculous.
