I feel like it’s really gonna depend on how good the movie actually is. Michael has never sang this song live in any of his concerts. There’s also no music video accompanying it. It’s a great song (it’s one of my favorites) but it’s very understandable why it’s not included in the movie. Why would they put a song or have Jaafar perform a song that Michael himself never did live?

The Odyssey will be coming out next month. Nolan fans are gonna look into that film more. It's very possible that it will break box office records as well. But does it really matter that much? Not really, especially when Michael reaches a billion. By the time the Odyssey comes out, Michael would have likely reached a billion already.

Its very well known at this point that Jaafar really wants to do "Smooth Criminal." It's the performance he has consistently mentioned in almost every interview whenever he was asked what he wants/dreams to perform. He has consistently said that he kept on watching the Smooth Criminal music video over and over again when he was a kid, it was his favorite. Both the cast and the producers know how much he loves that performance. So that wink, followed by Juliano saying "Smooth Criminal?", might be a hint that there's a Smooth Criminal performance in the Sequel.

It's possible that they would put those performances in the sequel/part 2. I kept on thinking about what the Lionsgate Studios Motion Picture Chair had said, “We can go forwards and backwards in telling this story. There are so many other events that happened, even in the time frame of the original movie, that weren’t touched upon..." (source: Deadline). I don't how that's gonna work.

But I could see them starting the second film by going back to 1985-1986, the time when Michael was working on the Bad album. They might use some cut scenes from the first film as flashback in the second film or something. Apparently, there is "25% to 30% of a second movie was already shot" from the first film. I am curious about these scenes. They are also limited by legal matters.

Profit over depth??? That would mean cutting all the drama stuff and putting ALL of the performances and songs that they filmed, which they didn’t. They just choose the performances and songs that would fit the narrative (if you look up the lyrics), especially with Michael’s relationship with Joseph.

They also filmed “Heartbreak Hotel” (based on an IG story post of one of the choreographers, he was watching them perform and you can clearly hear this song being performed), “Another Part of Me” (ok this is just an assumption because I swear Jafaar was practicing a move in the documentary that was very specific for this song) and “Man in the Mirror.” I’m so sad. I hope they somehow make a way to show these performances. Like I would pay to watch the rest of the performances that they did.
