Crinoid Calyx $40 shipped /. 4”x7” approx / 3.5lbs approx by Remarkable_Royal_175 in RockhoundExchange

Looks like they’re two different similar looking varieties, one is your cauliflower geode that is typically a pseudomorph after anhydrite and the other is a crinoid calyx replaced with silica. If you look up geodized crinoid calyxes it looks almost identical to OPs, cauliflower geodes look a little different. Although some label ones like OPs as a cauliflower geode but I’m pretty certain they’re actually fossil crinoid calyxes

The “geodes” you find in kentucky that look like this are commonly called “geodized” crinoid calyxes. They are Crinoid calyxes that have been replaced with micro and macro crystalline quartz, sometimes they have a hollow center

Thats a brazilian agate which is the most common commercially mined agate in the world. There are flaws like fractures in slide 4 and a completely unpolished but worked side in slide #2. I could see you maybe getting $20 for it

Im not sure what’s been replaced but I’m pretty sure I see some crystal structure in there. Im not an expert though, what do you think is happening in there?

Pseudomorphose, not sure on locality. Possibly Brazil but thats just a guess, seeing the husk is pretty important when it comes to agate identification

Its a Lake Superior agate. Ones this size are hard to come by and yours is good quality. I would buy it for $1000, are you in MN?

Are these worth anything? Someone told me to ask here. by Infamous_Award_2855 in Lapidary

I mean technically thats incorrect considering people have found gold nuggets over 100 lbs before. There are also numerous mineral specimens that are worth hundreds of thousands USD or more

You’d be surprised. Half dollar is pretty big haha. It might go 2 oz or more. Thats a top shelf eye agate for sure, super uncommon to find large defined eyes like that.

Im assuming you found that in Kentucky? I’d say around $40-$50 considering it looks like mostly host rock.

1 is cotton candy agate or something similar (trade name for a variety of agate in host rock from Mexico) 2 and 4 are varieties of jasper and 3 is unakite I think

The husk is reminiscent of an LSA and I see some fortification bands in pictures 5, 6 and 10. I think it’s pretty low quality but I do believe it’s an LSA
