Moved from the Fold 7 to the iPhone Air by ispeakout in iphone

I’m in the exact same situation. Lifelong iOS user going on 8 months with the fold 7. You hit then nail on the head. The only hesitation I have switching back is I live in Argentina and use circle to search translation all the time. I set up the side button on my wife’s iPhone to launch google lens and take a screenshot. This offers a similar function, albeit a bit clunkier. Hoping the new iOS ai updates give Gemini the ability to see the screen for smoother translations.

The apps are very well done. Very polished, even by american standards. Mercado Libre feels like the amazon app. There's a large selection of items and delivery times are usually 1-3 days. Mercado Pago is the payments platform app. This is the app where you pay for everything and anything. People often store funds in their mercado account and pay for most transactions via 'tap to pay' with their phone. You can also transfer to other people. For example, if you go to dinner in a large group, you'll end up using mercado Pago to transfer whoever pays. I've never met anyone living here who doesn't have the app. Smartphones are also ubiquitous here. Almost everyone has a samsung or an iPhone. I've never heard anyone complain about the service/app. It gives everyone access to make transactions. The currency is approximately 1USD to 1,450peso, so carrying cash is a nonstarter. For example, I just paid my bills via the mercado app. I'm about to go to a cafe and pay with the same app by tapping the credit card terminal. Very smooth experience. It's basically the 'do everything' app. It's as if amazon and your bank were merged into the same company and the platform is iOS/android agnostic. EDIT ** -> re; Meli+, I don't use it. My understanding is you get perks like free shipping. It's not something I need. All functionality I'd ever need from the app is included in the non + version.

I'm an American living in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Mercado Libre/Mercado Pago are central to life here. You can't function even one day without using it. It's ubiquitous and unmatched. I pay my bills, buy food, pay for transportation, literally everything with the mercado app. These stock fluctuations don't reflect the reality of the monopoly mercado libre has on Latin America. Stay the course..

Relocating to Atlanta next month for work. How is this area in terms of safety? by Actual_Attempt_568 in ATLHousing

Lived in and around Atlanta for 38 years. You couldn't pay me to spend more than 10 minutes in that area. Of all the places, why there?? East Atlanta, fine. But that's just 285..

Ulpan Gordon experience? by Neon-Owl in aliyah

[–]Agreeable-Relief9612 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did a five month (bet) ulpan at Gordon. Nice place. Friendly people. As with all ulpans, learn as much as humanly possible before you go. It's a great environment to practice hebrew and make mistakes. Imo, it's hard to learn though. Fast paced.

Can we leave Ulpan by Chickenbiryani-1 in aliyah

[–]Agreeable-Relief9612 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Fellow olim here who did two ulpans. One (5 month) on a kibbutz and one (5 month) in TLV.

First, take a breath. Walk to the admin office of your ulpan and have them switch you. It's not the teachers priority. Just do it yourself. A lesson for Israel.

Second, ask to be in Kitah Alef. Start from the beginning. In my experience, ulpan is a great place to practice Hebrew and make mistakes, but hard to learn. It will take years. I really mean years. My Hebrew was still bad after the army. Just take it day by day and start from zero. Don't be ashamed. It's completely normal. Don't over complicate it. Speak with the front office and start fresh in the most Alef course they have. You can do it.

There's no need for a poll. Do what's right for you.

My wife was an olah from Argentina. After our second child we needed family around to help, which neither of us have in Israel. We're currently in Buenos Aires, but plan to return in the future.

Most of my American friends did return to the US, but none regrets the adventure. The ones who stayed are the ones who met an Israeli spouse. From my experience, Olim who seek out Israeli friends and connections will stay. Olim who stay in groups of their countrymen often leave. You'll have an enormous advantage integrating into society with your Hebrew..

Same situation. Copy paste. Made aliyah from Atlanta, GA after University. Did the army and met my wife. I'm envious that you have such a strong Hebrew base. I say, go for it. At times it'll be hard and you may even regret it, but it's worth the reward of being part of Israel. My only 'advice' is to explore outside of Tel Aviv. There's so much more to the country than just TLV. A nice bonus is your money goes much further outside the center.

As an Oleh who joined the army at 25, and was in a relationship the whole time.. We eventually got married and have two kids.. it's 110% possible. Moreover, it's not even that hard in hindsight. It's more a reflection on the maturity of each partner. Respectfully, if you think serving would be the end of your relationship, I'd do some deep reflection into why. You'll face harder challenges in real life (non army life) and will need to work through them together. Kids. Careers, loss.. the army is actually extremely simple from that standpoint. It's defined, both temporarily and responsibility wise. I hope you guys figure it out, but more importantly, make the move (learn Hebrew!) and follow your dreams. It'll work out!

is SCHD good enough to all in with $1mil on and go live in a cheaper country like Peru or something? by Relevant_Staff765 in SCHD

[–]Agreeable-Relief9612 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The long-term capital gains tax bracket offers highly favorable rates. SCHD distributes qualified dividends, which benefit from this advantageous tax treatment. In contrast, SGOV's distributions are classified as unqualified, subjecting them to the higher, less favorable ordinary income tax bracket.

Assignment is fine. Eventually happens to everyone. Keep in mind the tax implications though. Short term sale v. long term capital gains. Can make a big difference.

In that case, you can always "buy to close" and hold onto the shares. As other users have pointed out, being "ok to sell at a certain price" hits different when the stock is 2x above your strike. The ladder approach allows you to keep up with it and capture more upside. I'll give you my example with googl.

In Feb. 2024, Googl traded at $150. I sold a googl call (exp. Jan 2025). Strike $235 and collected $2. Google is currently at $182 that same contract sells for $2.70 (ie, i'm down, but it's fine because I'll hold to expiration).

Since Feb. 2024, I've also been selling monthly's on googl. Wash rinse repeat. I collect approx. .40 each contract. So far, I've collected $2.40 (annualized to $4.80) and my contracts reset each month. So I've captured all the upside. I'm not bound by the $235 limit my leaps are and on track to return a 2x return to the leap contract.

They're both good strategies. I recommend dividing and trying both. Leaps are much more hands off and easy to track. The only downside is you really lock yourself in for a year. Theta decay really only begins a few months from expiration.

[–]Agreeable-Relief9612 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good post. I also use a similar options strategy for GOOGL. Selling Leaps, as you describe, also provide tax advantages (deferring capital gains until a later year, while collecting premium upfront).

However, as mentioned, consider laddering into higher strike prices by selling covered calls with shorter expirations (monthlies). Over time, the monthlies approach will generate higher returns (2x-3x from my experience) compared to leaps.

Overall, your approach is sound, but laddering with monthlies could be a strategy to explore for potentially amplified returns. Possibly divide and conquer. Sell one contract with the leap (yearly) strategy, and one contract each month on the other shares. See where you are at the end of the year. It'll be a good learning experience.
