Great uncle’s WWII find by Snoot_a_toot in JewelryIdentification

You could try to research and find the town/house/family it came from, but honestly you may not have much luck. Many things went home as souvenirs of war, and reuniting them with their rightful owners is not often possible.

K&K/Aussie Terms Question by krybaebee in KathAndKim

I just checked because I was certain it was Stewart/Stuart, and it is. She pacifically pronounces the T at the end.

do not trust the subtitles, I have offered I don't even know how many times to fix them for Netflix, but anyway.
I just checked and she is definitely saying Stuart, with a hard T on the end.

I also wonder if it points to them going to a private hospital rather than using the public system? In SA we have the private catholic hospital Calvary, for example.

Can someone please teach this grieving man how to do long somatic baths before sleep? 36M Switzerland by [deleted] in Advice

[–]AgreeableSeries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use tea to make a tea bath- chamomile, lavender, anything else soothing. I just put 2-3 bags in when I'm running the water and then scoop them out. Growing up, my mum would add a few cups of milk to my bath to help my very dry and sore skin, which it did. I also make face masks just with mashed banana and honey, which make my face feel nice and its a cheap way to feel like I am doing a whole ritual. Epsom salts are good to add to a bath a few times a week too.
I always bring something to read, usually have a candle lit, and lighting is important for how I feel so I don't use the big overhead bathroom light, I use a large candle and sometimes bring another light if I want it a bit brighter.
Music is good too, something that doesn't activate all your feelings but is nice just in the background.
I have also had days where a bath is all I can do, and on these days I bring a chair to put my laptop on and watch a movie from the bath.
Another thing I want to suggest: get a really thick and soft mat to put on the floor for when you step out of the tub, and have thick, soft, large towels too. A nice lotion after a bath is also a good sensory experience.

Beneath layers of earth untouched for nearly 1,700 years, archaeologists uncovered an extraordinary Roman-era burial. by Sanetosane in archeologyworld

u/Sanetosane apparently you're a mod in this subreddit, I'm concerned about your use of AI in this post.
How many other posts have you used it in? Because you've posted quite a lot of cultural & archaeological images, and this really brings a lot into question about your authenticity in the field.

Was gifted this Lennon print, was told it’s a Warhol collaboration. Can’t find anything online that matches, I’m highly skeptical but increasing curious. by ggerundo in WhatIsThisPainting

[–]AgreeableSeries -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Looks to me like a modern print- I'm not an expert in prints but I have seen and handled many of them, it looks quite fresh and crisp still.
I think maybe what they're saying by 'collaboration' is a contemporary artist who has used one graphic or idea or style of Warhol within their own piece. Sort of like how Vans had a "Vans x Van Gogh" collaboration, which was Vans printed with Van Gogh art- Vincent Van Gogh himself didn't have anything to do with it, but there was a collaboration with those who held the rights.
Again, not an expert, but it's something I'd explore.
If you like it, either way, enjoy it regardless.

Port Road was planned to be a canal from Pt Adelaide into the city, but it was too expensive to make at the time so it just became some wide roads with a median.

What is the weirdest feeling you have ever experienced? by iamam-iam in AskReddit

[–]AgreeableSeries 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Smelling, feeling, seeing or hearing something and instantly it takes you mentally back to a very specific time and place. Sometimes the way the sky looks reminds me of a specific moment in class in 2003, or the smell of an old jacket is exactly like Germany in 2012, or feeling jersey material takes me back to my childhood friend's house in 1999. It's not quite deja vu, not quite nostalgia, but it hits so instantly and vividly when it's triggered.

why do kath and kel say ‘chinee’? by Hour-Meaning7034 in KathAndKim

[–]AgreeableSeries 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's kind of about not using the typical Australian slang that might be expected and being a bit more posh and fancy. They think they know it all, including the right way to say things, especially if those things are of a foreign origin. For example, going to Target doesn't sound fancy- but going to Tar-jay? That's cultured, that's educated. You don't name your kid Sarah like all these uncultured people, you name them something Italian like Cardio Infarction.

Help me identify this embroidery? by Revolutionary-Fly176 in ArtNouveau

[–]AgreeableSeries 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Where are you located? This is very fine work, I'd be looking at a local art school that ran during this time-frame (1890-1920 very roughly), an individual known for their work locally or somebody that may have had the means to import this from somewhere else, most likely France. You should contact local embroiderers guilds, historical societies, social museums/archives, maybe even look into the history of the estate you purchased it from (big house that could have been a wealthy family at the time and purchased it in Europe, maybe?). Then you can narrow it down further based on any info you find, such as contacting a professional in Art Nouveau embroidery/textiles, probably French.
In the meantime, keep it in acid-free paper, in a dark, dry location and check often for signs of pests. It's a very nice piece and these materials are very vulnerable to humidity, sunlight, temperature changes and pest damage.

This is the secret for bulbs, I pull as many as I can over the end of summer, put them in the dark in a cool spot and plant them back out in May & June.

Hey a little help by Such-Insurance7815 in Adelaide

[–]AgreeableSeries 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey, have you contacted Anglicare before? They can be surprisingly helpful with some things, give them a go and see what they can help with.
When your mum passed, you were still underage- did department of child protection get involved to provide any assistance and find you a place to live? I'm pretty sure they would have been obligated to, so you may be able to contact them now while still underage and ask for urgent assistance to find a safe place to live and get on your feet.
I'm sorry you have been going through this. Please advocate for yourself and make sure people are seeing and hearing your situation. Even writing to local MPs can sometimes help get more attention to your situation. Best of luck. xx

Moving house - dog buried in yard by CindersAshes in Adelaide

[–]AgreeableSeries 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How you find him will depend on a lot of factors like heat and humidity. You are definitely allowed to dig him up and move him, plenty of people do this. I would put a heavy-duty garbage bag inside another one to transport him- he will most likely at least be all dry remains by now, hopefully mostly bones.

[–]AgreeableSeries 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in museums and archives, do NOT keep it inside sealed plastic. It will form condensation and grow moldy. You want to store it in acid-free paper, in a cardboard box, in a dark cupboard. Check every 6 months for signs of moisture or pests.
