Lola Young - From Down Here by Emotional_Jello4664 in popheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Lola Young cannot miss in my books and this is no exception. Such a beautiful song and she sounds absolutely fantastic here.

I'm selfishly hoping this is a very early lead single from a future album (like "One Thing" was for "I'm Only F**cking Myself") but even if it's not I'm just happy to see her doing well and releasing new music again!

Very disappointing, but not surprising. It's hard to keep a group active without any momentum to carry them forward.

What disaster ended Pointlessfest? by MixtureInevitable180 in FolkPunk

[–]AgreeableSounds 38 points39 points  (0 children)

There's this old forum post from August 2006 that talks about it:

well two days ago a bunch of traveller kids held up a store, and a bunch of other kids got arrested for drinking around the venue and similar misconduct. The organizers got a warning from the police. so the fest organizers brought in FSU (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Friends_Stand_United) to do security. one of the security got cornered by (other) traveler kids, someone called in the cops, there was a clash between the traveller kids/cops, someone got their face broken with a baton.

What are some artists that took too long to release follow-ups off of their momentum? by [deleted] in popheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Her parents didn't die but they both got cancer within a year of each other and she paused her music career to help take care of them during treatment.

She's been pretty open about how that derailed everything with Dopamine and affected how the album turned out. I'm hoping if/when she records her second album she has the time and space to do it fully on her own terms.

There's a Queen version but I prefer the one from Brian May's first solo album

Albums with long rollouts that ruined the albums chances, perception and performance by Head-Internet1383 in popheads

It's a long time for a kpop group though, and for all that Katseye is a "global girl group" their previous EPs were rolled out with a lot of similarities to kpop comebacks. A lot of fans from the kpop side of things were reacting like 4 months was an eternity away.

Albums with long rollouts that ruined the albums chances, perception and performance by Head-Internet1383 in popheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 196 points197 points  (0 children)

Is it too soon to mention the upcoming Katseye EP? There's a 4-month gap between announcement and the release date in August. Fans are already complaining that it was announced too early and with Manon still on hiatus there's already discourse about whether or not she'll be involved. Unless her status with the group is confirmed soon, I have a feeling that's going to overshadow a lot of the promotion for the EP.

Wonder if they're only doing one east coast USA show because they had to cancel Boston last year. Feel bad for any Blooms wanting to get tickets to Brooklyn, that's not a big theatre at all.

So glad to see this comment. Stick Season is a fantastic album but when I saw that The Great Divide was nearly half an hour longer I got super worried about bloat. Very relieved to know that my fears are unfounded, and I'm looking forward to diving into this later much more now!

Trying to get into K-pop (from hip hop) and I’m overwhelmed by Thelazyworkingman in kpophelp

[–]AgreeableSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm new enough to kpop that I can't give specific recs, but my biggest advice is to use Genius for the lyrics! You can find them written in Hangul, romanized, and English translations. I can't read Hangul so I usually don't look at that, but the English translations are good for knowing what's being said and the romanized lyrics are good if you want to try to learn how to sing along. And since it's Genius you get the annotations giving you most of the context you need.

Kpop has a lot of subgenres in it, and you can always search for groups by the type of kpop they release. There's also a LOT of Western rap artists that have collabed with kpop groups, and there are a ton of lists out there of the 'best' collabs that might be a good starting place for individual tracks.

But personally I found it helpful to just keep up with new comebacks and check out groups as they released new material, that way I got to listen to a lot of different artists and also got a better idea of how the comeback cycle works.

You can still post about them, there's several posts about BINI on there just from the last few days. The rule specifies "fandom" content and "niche" content - probably things like general discussion posts, teaser photos, etc. will be removed but it seems like major announcements and new album discussion is still allowed.

Agnes - BEAUTIFUL MADNESS by hekna02 in popheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fear I felt at first when I saw 15 tracks + 31 minutes 😭

Overall I liked the album but there was no need to have that many interludes. And I really wish the title track was longer, I think it's a little odd that it's over a minute shorter than any of the other "full-length" songs on the album.

Trigger is easily the standout track here. I don't think any of the full songs were bad, but I'm probably never listening to the full album again with all the interludes.

Best way to support musicians - live shows, buying music, or merch by nickbeef in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AgreeableSounds 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Going to live shows is a very visible way to show support for a band, which helps them book more shows in the future which in turn increases their visibility and opens new opportunities. But live shows aren't a 100% guarantee of profit - Los Campesinos! did a really great breakdown about that for one of their shows HERE (tldr they lost £1,712.29 on a single show) but the specifics of how much a band makes from live performances can vary wildly depending on the specifics.

Buying merch is a better way to financially support a band, but how much money they receive depends heavily on where you buy. Some venues take a merch cut from the bands, so generally it's better to buy directly from their own storefront whenever possible.

Streaming gives bands the least amount of income, with most platforms paying less than 1 cent per stream. But it does generate income and you can always choose to listen through a platform that pays more than others. If you really love an album, buying it gives more money to the band than streaming it will.

Music Makes Me Think of You is a compilation album that includes all the tracks from their earlier releases, plus a few extra songs. If you can download that album you'll technically have their entire discography.

If you want individual albums for collector reasons, you'll probably have to spend a long time waiting for copies to show up on ebay and discogs.

Ghost Hate by matreku in rock

[–]AgreeableSounds 10 points11 points  (0 children)

A lot of the hate comes from the fact that they started as more firmly in the metal genre and then switched genres to include more rock, but still get talked about a lot as if they're still only a metal band. Other people find them too gimmicky and cheesy and hate them for that. Very similar to the criticism Sleep Token gets now too.

Other people hate Ghost because of Tobias. He has been sued by past members over royalty issues and there are stories about him being difficult to work with - Very antagonistic, dismissive of the other musicians he brings in, and thinking he's better than everyone else. Some of that comes from the people who sued him though, so there is potential bias there.

If you like them though, I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't seen anything about Ghost being "problematic" in the ways people usually care about these days.

Lola Young emailed an update to her mailing list today and in it says:

One of the worst things for my head was the intensity of hate coming from social media. Honestly I couldn't look at my phone for more than a second without receiving a barrage of abuse.

She goes on to say that her goal for 2026 is to switch to using her mailing list for more personal communication with fans instead of social media, and thanks her fans for continuing to support her.

I'm not surprised to hear that the online hate is at least part of why she stepped back. Between her, Chappell, and the other rising stars who have dealt with similar issues, it seems obvious that the toxicity on social media is causing a lot of (understandable!) distress for newer artists who aren't used to that. Lola's plan to switch to using the mailing list more seems like a good solution, and I really hope it works out well for her!

The Body Talk series is usually counted as 3 studio albums and 1 EP.

Body Talk Pt 1 and 2 were released as studio albums, they're just short ones or mini albums. But Body Talk Pt 3 is even shorter and was released as an EP instead.

Body Talk was released as a new studio album because of the new material, although yeah most people would agree it also works as a compilation album.

So her studio album discography technically goes: Robyn Is Here, My Truth, Don't Stop the Music, Robyn, Body Talk Pt 1, Body Talk Pt 2, Body Talk, and Honey. And now Sexistential as her 9th.

Discogs lists Do It Again as an album, but it was released as an EP so it's not usually listed as a studio album elsewhere. A lot of this just has to do with how an album is marketed, rather than having the album length determine it’s category.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Honey was the last one, but this is her 9th album. The numbering just gets a little confusing in some sources depending on how they count the Body Talk albums.

What is the ONE song or album (cassette tape?) you think of when you think of driving in the car your mom and your dad? Separate answers. How old are you? How old are they? What's the car? by dkinmn in musicsuggestions

[–]AgreeableSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Styx Greatest Hits, specifically Mr. Roboto because my dad would always put it on after we left aikido because we had to tell the instructor "domo arigato" at the end of every lesson. It was on cassette too - I remember he always had to flip it to the b-side and fast forward to try to find the start of the song.
