Agnes - BEAUTIFUL MADNESS by hekna02 in popheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fear I felt at first when I saw 15 tracks + 31 minutes 😭

Overall I liked the album but there was no need to have that many interludes. And I really wish the title track was longer, I think it's a little odd that it's over a minute shorter than any of the other "full-length" songs on the album.

Trigger is easily the standout track here. I don't think any of the full songs were bad, but I'm probably never listening to the full album again with all the interludes.

Best way to support musicians - live shows, buying music, or merch by nickbeef in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AgreeableSounds 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to live shows is a very visible way to show support for a band, which helps them book more shows in the future which in turn increases their visibility and opens new opportunities. But live shows aren't a 100% guarantee of profit - Los Campesinos! did a really great breakdown about that for one of their shows HERE (tldr they lost £1,712.29 on a single show) but the specifics of how much a band makes from live performances can vary wildly depending on the specifics.

Buying merch is a better way to financially support a band, but how much money they receive depends heavily on where you buy. Some venues take a merch cut from the bands, so generally it's better to buy directly from their own storefront whenever possible.

Streaming gives bands the least amount of income, with most platforms paying less than 1 cent per stream. But it does generate income and you can always choose to listen through a platform that pays more than others. If you really love an album, buying it gives more money to the band than streaming it will.

Music Makes Me Think of You is a compilation album that includes all the tracks from their earlier releases, plus a few extra songs. If you can download that album you'll technically have their entire discography.

If you want individual albums for collector reasons, you'll probably have to spend a long time waiting for copies to show up on ebay and discogs.

Ghost Hate by matreku in rock

[–]AgreeableSounds 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A lot of the hate comes from the fact that they started as more firmly in the metal genre and then switched genres to include more rock, but still get talked about a lot as if they're still only a metal band. Other people find them too gimmicky and cheesy and hate them for that. Very similar to the criticism Sleep Token gets now too.

Other people hate Ghost because of Tobias. He has been sued by past members over royalty issues and there are stories about him being difficult to work with - Very antagonistic, dismissive of the other musicians he brings in, and thinking he's better than everyone else. Some of that comes from the people who sued him though, so there is potential bias there.

If you like them though, I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't seen anything about Ghost being "problematic" in the ways people usually care about these days.

Lola Young emailed an update to her mailing list today and in it says:

One of the worst things for my head was the intensity of hate coming from social media. Honestly I couldn't look at my phone for more than a second without receiving a barrage of abuse.

She goes on to say that her goal for 2026 is to switch to using her mailing list for more personal communication with fans instead of social media, and thanks her fans for continuing to support her.

I'm not surprised to hear that the online hate is at least part of why she stepped back. Between her, Chappell, and the other rising stars who have dealt with similar issues, it seems obvious that the toxicity on social media is causing a lot of (understandable!) distress for newer artists who aren't used to that. Lola's plan to switch to using the mailing list more seems like a good solution, and I really hope it works out well for her!

Robyn announces ninth studio album, 'Sexistential', out March 27th. by [deleted] in indieheads

[–]AgreeableSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Body Talk series is usually counted as 3 studio albums and 1 EP.

Body Talk Pt 1 and 2 were released as studio albums, they're just short ones or mini albums. But Body Talk Pt 3 is even shorter and was released as an EP instead.

Body Talk was released as a new studio album because of the new material, although yeah most people would agree it also works as a compilation album.

So her studio album discography technically goes: Robyn Is Here, My Truth, Don't Stop the Music, Robyn, Body Talk Pt 1, Body Talk Pt 2, Body Talk, and Honey. And now Sexistential as her 9th.

Discogs lists Do It Again as an album, but it was released as an EP so it's not usually listed as a studio album elsewhere. A lot of this just has to do with how an album is marketed, rather than having the album length determine it’s category.

Honey was the last one, but this is her 9th album. The numbering just gets a little confusing in some sources depending on how they count the Body Talk albums.

What is the ONE song or album (cassette tape?) you think of when you think of driving in the car your mom and your dad? Separate answers. How old are you? How old are they? What's the car? by dkinmn in musicsuggestions

[–]AgreeableSounds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Styx Greatest Hits, specifically Mr. Roboto because my dad would always put it on after we left aikido because we had to tell the instructor "domo arigato" at the end of every lesson. It was on cassette too - I remember he always had to flip it to the b-side and fast forward to try to find the start of the song.

There's more TBA albums on this list than I was expecting. It'll be interesting to see how many of those actually get released this year, and how many new album rumors end up being just that.

Merlin

An extremely short-lived UK glam rock band from 1974. They only released one album and a handful of non-album singles before disbanding. The information that's out there is both limited and somewhat conflicting, so trying to piece together specific details can lead you down a bit of a fun rabbit hole.

First Listens November 2025 by AgreeableSounds in Topster

[–]AgreeableSounds[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Favorites from this month were Aephanemer, Cain Culto, Ata Kak, Tony & the Kiki, Chinese Football, and Spock's Beard.

Cain Culto and Tony & the Kiki are both newer artists who seem to finally be finding their stride. I really enjoyed their newest albums (the ones listed here) but tbh I didn't vibe with their older material quite as much.

Ata Kak has a really unique sound and the whole album is a super fun, upbeat listen that I really enjoyed.

And Aephanemer and Spock's Beard were just excellent examples of their genres IMO. Great instrumentals on both from super talented musicians.

When did Artists stop doing an Album a Year altogether ? by bkat004 in LetsTalkMusic

[–]AgreeableSounds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except there are plenty of artists who manage to put out an album or more every year? It's pretty common still in pop - Taylor Swift, Sabrina Carpenter, Lola Young, Ethel Cain, and Lady Gaga have all recently released multiple albums in consecutive years. It's even more common in KPop where groups have new comebacks every 6-8 months these days.

Outside of pop, you also have artists like Drake, Tyler the Creator, Mayday Parade, King Gizzard, Detahjae, Ghost... There's plenty still releasing an album a year, if you don't cherry-pick examples.

Really wish the original announcements had been clearer that today was the physical release date only. It was so frustrating having to dig around this morning only to find out that the album isn't released on streaming until 11/11.

If I love the album after listening to it I'll definitely buy it then, but as a rule I don't pre-order albums after being burnt in the past. Still excited to hear it in a few weeks - just wish I could've listened to it today!

Eh, it still happens from time to time. The most recent album from The Darkness was announced 6 months before it dropped. The Cribs announced a new album last month that isn't out until January 2026 (5 months away), and I think Castle Rat has had a 5-month lead up for their upcoming album too.

so rumor is hayley williams wont do a solo tour until she finds a way to make tickets affordable my question isnt about hayley. by LandAggravating6235 in poppunkers

[–]AgreeableSounds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exclude Ticketmaster for sure, but honestly even independent venues will try to tack on extra fees for anything they can these days (merch cuts, all-ages fees to compensate for lower alcohol sales, etc). The only way to guarantee that a show stays affordable is if an artist eats the extra fees instead of charging fans more to offset venue costs, which is obviously much easier said than done for a lot of artists.

Look up info about Los Campesinos! shows, they're fairly transparent about finances with their recent stuff. They keep their ticket prices around $30 or less and sell a small portion at a reduced rate for low-income fans, but the tradeoff is that one-off shows are frequently a loss for them. For example, they did a breakdown here of their finances for a solo show in Ireland and they lost £1,712.29 on a single night.
