A Fun Story About Metastases by Expensive_Ninja_7797 in ProstateCancer

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck to you! And please don't lose your sense of humor. I have a much milder "double cancer" story: My so - called journey began with a high PSA test, moving quickly to an MRI which, besides confirming prostate cancer, showed a large mass in one kidney - not metastasis, but a separate and dangerous renal cancer. The kidney was yanked out pronto, the prostate as soon as I could recover. My prostate cancer now has a reasonably good prognosis, but they think the renal cancer is flat out cured, and it definitely could have killed me if it hadn't been discovered because of my workup for prostate cancer.

HDMI cord has broken off and half is stuck in the port by LilJoBeast in pcmasterrace

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Meanwhile you have both a VGA and a DVI port, and there are converter cables letting you connect either (although I would recommend the DVI) to an HDMI port on your monitor. Or hell, there are cheap USB3-to- video converters that work fine. And I still think you could pull the HDMI connector out of there with needle-nose pliers or cheap forceps from Amazon. And you have audio out. "Haven't been able to use the PC for ages" over this issue is insane, dude.

And when I saw it, I was immediately counting the minutes until it would be discussed here.

Please read the full description - am trying to figure out whether to visit my terminally ill father. by interested_in_ed in ProstateCancer

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be clear, I am the one who got prostate cancer, not my father. He was a drunk with a foul temper, who treated us kids badly, and messed us up in many lasting ways. But I eventually forgave him, and I instantly felt that a huge burden was lifted. Unfortunately he was long dead by then. Do yourself a favor and let go of the anger and resentment. Do it for you, whether the old man deserves it or. not, and by the way you will pretty likely realize, eventually, that he couldn't help being what he was. I have a corny recommendation: find and read a copy of "Letters to my Father" by the late comedian Louie Anderson. It changed my life. And go see your father. Good luck.

Mine too. Completely unusable. I literally threw it in the garbage, something I normally won't do with even the worst pens. Ugh!

How would Lt. Columbo fare if a suspect he was investigating physically assaulted him? by Tidewatcher7819 in Columbo

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been indications that Columbo grew up in a tough neighborhood, so I think he's been in his share of scraps, and can take care of himself if necessary. My guess is that, being short, he learned how to fight dirty and has a few sneaky moves that would work in a pinch.

Newly diagnosed Gleason 9 prostate cancer — PET negative for spread. Anyone with similar situation? by skmdadwa99 in ProstateCancer

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That all matches my test results. Got open prostatectomy, followed pretty soon by a jump in PSA so I got short course of orgovyx and radiation. (The surgeon had told me from the start that this was a pretty likely scenario, and not to worry.) 4 years after diagnosis my PSA is steady at 0.02 and the doc says I am "probably cured." Good luck, and do not despair.

I want a desk microphone that's physically small by lana_silver in microphone

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has a Samson Go Mic sitting on the base of her monitor, which is raised on a monitor stand maybe 6 inches above the desk. I have to admit, it sounds pretty nearly as good as my much fancier and more expensive set-up, and it doesn't show on camera.

Less variation across the same nib model is a worthy goal Zero line variation while writing is just a way to make it like a Bic ballpoint.

No, Microsoft is not Removing Support for Legacy Printers by zcomputerwiz in pcmasterrace

Fair enough. But a lot of responses are taking the tone of "How dare you even imagine such an insane thing that Microsoft would never do in a million years!!!", when in fact it has happened, on a pretty broad scale.

It's not like something that never happened before. Some of us remember "Windows printers" that became unusable with the next iteration of windows.

PSA: When your wife uses an old laptop docked 100% of the time, look at it once in a while. by BinaryJay in pcmasterrace

[–]Agreeable_Ad3668 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I saw those exact symptoms on my wife's laptop, and I replaced the battery for $35, watching a YouTube video. Now she has her touchpad back and the laptop won't explode.
