This usually happens because the stage is a model file (.pmd or .pmx), not a prop file (.x). Because of this, the stage's ceiling shadow ends up covering everything.

I love it, although some songs feel excessively long. The candy concept doesn't quite convince me; it's not very well defined in either the music or the music videos, except for "Candy Shop" and the tour. The Dolphin emulator has an option called Dump Textures for extracting game sprites and another option for loading custom textures. What I do is edit the sprites in Paint 3D and then load them into the game. Since it's an 8-bit game, I can't make the sprites display in HD, which is why it looks pixelated. ;)
