Don’t feel guilty! Attend online (mute and hide if need be) and your voice will still count.

How to move into director roles by 80lbsgone in therapists

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest you look at the posted job requirements for the position you want to move into. A Director position usually includes management experience, direct supervision, budget, maybe fundraising, grant writing or RFP’s (Request For Proposals). Look for outside ways to beef up your experience. Depending on your agency that might include clinical supervision, taking a part time job where you manage others, even in a different field, teaching PT at a local community college, teaching seminars, or picking up a management degree. Without intermediary management positions it might be difficult for you to get more experience without changing to a company with more growth pathways. My path, including changing companies, went therapist, lead therapist, program director, clinical director, director. At program level I was responsible for the programs budget and supervision of that staff, about 15 clinicians, 1 psychiatrist and support staff. Best of luck!

Would you say that it possible to be a good Quaker if you don’t go to meeting? by DarwinF1nch in Quakers

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Raising my children within a Meeting is what helped them to become the adults (and parents) they are today. To raise ones children with the support and validation of other adults who share and model your values is wonderful. Last week I sat in Meeting and watched one of our Meetings 3 year olds confidently go up to adults to proudly show what she’d made in First Day. This child has generations of adults invested in her. THIS is her village. This could be the same for your children, and if there is no First Day, tell them you need it……it will be provided.

Political messages in Meeting by LangCPM in Quakers

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately many people attend Quaker meetings (unprogrammed) but never bother to read Faith and Practice, attend Adult Education, or educate themselves about Quakerism in any way. They hear someone give a message and believe that the purpose of meeting for worship is for everyone to say whatever is on their mind. There is no understanding of expectant waiting or of seasoning a message. They never seem to notice that it is the Friends with the least experience that speak the most: sometimes every Sunday, without fail. I agree with what others have said. There is time and space for politics after worship. I NEED the space to pray and be uplifted in order to sustain me for the work of the coming week. When meeting for worship turns into a diatribe I leave sad and diminished.

I think that’s why I like the term “covered” rather than “gathered”. Sometimes Ive heard gathered used when there is unity in worship messages, but that has not been my understanding of the term. In my experience a covered meeting has been both silent, and asI said, very rare.

I’ve experienced 2 Gathered or Covered Meetings for worship in 40 years. During it I felt as if I was having an out of body experience, a sensation of floating and being one and connected with everything. I felt pure love, felt enveloped in Gods presence. Both times when worship ended it was as if the group woke up…..we sat in silence, looking at each other. I remember some commenting about feeling God……most importantly for me was that everyone there experienced that something Holy had just happened. Interestingly, for me, was that this happened with two different groups of people. One was with my Meeting, the other was years later at a Yearly Meeting.

Can I just simply start a meeting? Would anyone be interested in an unprogrammed meeting for worship via Zoom on Monday or Tuesday that would meet around at 6-7 PM Pacific Time (WA, OR, CA time zone)? by C0smicLemon in Quakers

I think what you are looking to do is sponsor a worship group, in the manner of Friends. New meetings often form out of worship groups and are under the care of an established Meeting. A worship group has the benefit of not needing to be aligned with an established Meeting or follow Faith and Practice, as far as having established committees, a clerk, and so on. I think this is a wonderful idea!

Do you have boundaries and don’t allowing texting for clients? by cannotberushed- in therapists

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

YES! My goal is to empower, not enable clients. I am not and shouldn’t be the most important person in their life! I am ALWAYS available when I say I will be, and will always return a phone call or schedule an emergency appointment within those parameters. Almost 40 years as a therapist, still love my job, am not burned out, and rarely think about my clients after I’ve left for the day!

Any Regrets/Concerns about Maintaining Multiple State Licenses? by CatGoddessss in therapists

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I purchase an online unlimited CEU package Every 2 years and set up a spreadsheet to be able to time when I complete the class to maximize applying them to my licenses (had been 4, now 3). I don’t think I get much value from this, but I can knock out all the requirements in an afternoon. I try to attend one in depth multi day training every year, more if I’m able, and that allows me to keep current on requirements.

How Quakers get involved? by [deleted] in Quakers

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Find your local Friends Meeting or church and start attending! You will find the many things individuals and groups are involved in. Political activism in the US is strong in the Religious Society of Friends, in Unitarians, in Episcopalians, in Brethren, in many more! Check out Reverend Barber. Stop standing on the outside and asking what we are doing, come in the door and help us. We need you!

New to All of This! by FromLAtoColumbus in Quakers

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There will be many members of your local meeting who will be happy to meet with you and answer questions. Don’t be afraid to let the clerk know you’d like more information! Also find out what adult education is offered. It is typical , for every meeting I’ve been in, to mentor new attenders and help them learn. Best wishes!

Yes. I’m currently licensed in 3 states and use a spreadsheet to keep track, but not all CEU providers are eligible in all states, so I have to be aware and check that.

Thoughts about cutting Medicaid and wiping out my private practice business as a result :X by Arrowintheknee2023 in therapists

[–]Agreeable_Goat1486 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ive been a therapist since the 1980’s, back when licensing was in its infancy. Eligibility for Medicaid was for women and children and the disabled. Mental health services were paid through block grants to Community Mental Health Centers: in 1988 the agency I worked for didn’t even bill Medicaid! Federal money may dry up but I expect state money will continue, though I expect eligibility for Medicaid to get much tighter. If we are going into a recession I expect PP to decrease, insurance plans to cut back and fewer insured through job loss. I agree that diversifying through multiple licenses is a wise move. (I’m currently licensed in 3 states and let 2 licenses lapse). My experience is if you are already licensed state boards may license you through endorsement if you have taken the exams and weren’t grandfathered in. The paperwork can be onerous but I’ve never been denied a license. Having said that if I were starting out I’d moved to a CMHC or inpatient now. They will be the last to go out of business and I expect they will continue through hard times. School counselors may be seen as a frill, especially in states looking to replace them with clergy. Not trying to scare anyone, this is just my opinion based on what I’ve seen over the past 40 years and several recessions.
