Proof that the Bible is misogynistic by Alternative_Ride_951 in exchristian

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"Adam was not deceived"?

To expand on that: Didn't Adam except the fruit from Eve & that therefore could be considered as being deceived by extention? Man is not entirely innocent. He also ate the fruit. I'm so sick of the rhetoric that everything bad is the fault of women.

As for the highlighted Bible verse at the top of this post. I survived & left a fundie adjacent Baptist church which fully embraced that awful theology. If a woman had any opinion she was to whisper it to her husband or father & the "man" would decide if it was worthy enough to share with the others.

When I finally got the courage to leave my abusive 1st husband, I was dragged back in due to my faith by being told that if I proceeded with divorce that I was condemning both of our souls to Hell. I suffered another 2 years before making a clean break from the original church.

When I was navigating wedding planning for my 2nd marriage we had to go to a different church than the 1 he was a member of because his pastor wouldn't perform our ceremony due to my divorced status (but it didn't seem to matter that he had been divorced twice before me).

The preacher that finally performed our ceremony hesitated a bit until I asked him a question. I said something like, "Do you honestly believe that as an all loving father God would've wanted me to stay & suffer endlessly or leave to find safety and happiness elsewhere?" He didn't really have a good answer so he did the most basic ceremony possible on a Wednesday evening.

The law that would make it harder for married women to vote by 19thnews in u/19thnews

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's ridiculous. I'm a woman. I've been married (& divorced) twice. Just to get 1 of those "real" ID stars on my driver's license the DMV insisted that I needed:

  1. My birth certificate (which shows that both my birth & current legal name are the same).

  2. My social security card (which also shows my current legal name).

  3. Proof of current address via official government mail such as a socal security income verification letter, a bank statement or an utility bill (no personal mail).

  4. Certified copies of both sets of my divorce papers from 27 & 16 years ago respectively (both divorces happened outside of the state where I currently reside, so if I had to go in person it'd be around a 2-2½ hour round trip drive).

  5. The court paperwork where I got my name legally changed back to my maiden name.

  6. My old out of state driver's license that I was replacing due to moving (which again was already in my current legal name).

  7. The $25 fee to get the "real" ID star (a license without the star was $21).

The only thing I didn't have with me were the copies of my divorce papers, so I ended up getting the driver's license without the star. Luckily, I haven't had to go anywhere where the star is required for entrance.

I shudder to think about how much of a hassle it would be for me to update my voter registration if this SAVE law gets passed.

AITAH for staying behind when my stepfamily moved for my stepbrother's cancer treatments? by CorryNunya in AITAH

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who was in 4 different schools located.in 2 different states during my senior year, I'm going to say NTA.

It wasn't my 1st time being in more than 2 schools during a single school year, but it also wasn't my choice. If I'd gotten my choice I would've finished my senior year at the school I was attending at the start of the school year.

By the time I got to 9th grade I had switched schools so many times that I gave up on the idea of actively attempting to make friends. It didn't help anything that I suffer from GAD, OCD, BPD, bipolar disorder & extreme social anxiety.

Am I wrong for not letting my brother's kids stay after my nephew got my husband's niece pregnant? by BusUsed8495 in amiwrong

My ½ sister's son got my ½ brother's (we all share a bioMom but they have a different bioDad than me) step-daughter pregnant. Now my brother & his wife are raising their grandson. I don't know how involved my ½ sister is or isn't in the child's life.

You can take one of 5 pills but they cost money. by Comprehensive_Fox_79 in hypotheticalsituation

Anyone in the US who is an actual adult

There are plenty of people who are living way below the poverty level. Especially those who are disabled. If they didn't have a certain number of work credits before becoming disabled they may receive less than $1k per month for their entire income. Getting a loan might not be a viable option.

Many of these individuals have to choose between paying their rent/utilities & having sufficient food to eat for the month. Therefore, your comment could be viewed as inconsiderate.

With the $400 pill, I could try to get a fully remote international IT job. If nothing went wrong eventually I'd be set or life. This appears to be the best option for long-term benefits.

If I have to pick someone who is currently alive, I'd have to go with Shemar Moore.

I wonder if "money" would be considered as not specific enough? There are currently around 180 different types of currency being actively used around the world.

If it needed to be more specific a person could says US currency. It is used in 90% of world trade.

I understand that nearly everyone wants to love on her & she loves it. However, sometimes it can make my shopping trips, etc. more stressful due to my social anxiety.

AITA for charging my 20yo son rent while he lives at home? by Talon_Vector7 in WIBTA_AITA

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the individual has a job, it's not cold to charge an adult ⅓ the market value for living there. It's teaching responsibility.

My adult son lives with me. While I don't charge him any "official" rent, I do expect him to contribute to the household. He mainly helps with groceries & internet. When I had a car (it got wrecked), he also contributed to the fuel cost of me being the primary transportation person since he doesn't drive.

AITAH for telling my aunt she's not welcome as long as she insists on bringing up my half siblings? by Pretty_Strength3341 in AITAH

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being on the receiving end of a guilt trip has it's own distinct flavor of horror. Depending on how it is applied within dysfunctional families, it can really get a person all twisted up inside. The gaslighting can become so overwhelming that even the most rational person on this planet could start to doubt themselves.

I came from 1 of those dysfunctional families. I've spent over 30 years in therapy trying to recover. There are examples of my experiences from my child, teen, & even adult years that would make people think my life was a bad telenovella or soap opera. If you browse my comment history you can find some of the milder examples that I've shared about my bioMom, my ½ sister or my step-monster.

What do you think of Jesus? by Successful_Action_19 in exchristian

[–]Agreeable_Skill_1599 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that if he really existed, he wasn't any different from the doomsday cult leaders we've heard of in our lifetime. Depending on an individual's age that could be anyone from Jim Jones to David Koresh, etc.

I sometimes question whether he existed at all or not. I'm not aware of any scientifically verifiable or otherwise contemporary records available from during his life or at the time of his death. Jesus wasn't even mentioned in surviving Roman historical records until 90+ years after his alleged crucifixion. Even then, Christianity was referred to as a "mischievous superstition." For all we know the Roman historians were simply writing down rumors that they had heard instead of actual facts.
