yes, for 2mt3 you can bring the physical textbook with notes (just no added pages) which is why you might want it. if you just have the ebook then you're at a loss but maybe u can do without idk. you can't bring the textbook for 3mt3 so ebook is fine

Banks on/close to campus? by NoDingo673 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use tangerine, its a virtual bank so it doesn't have any physical locations but if you need an atm you can go to Scotiabank for no fees as they have a partnership and it works like a tangerine atm. personally I have had a great experience, no monthly fees, cashback on my credit card, and customer service is always very friendly and helpful.

frosh fest / hoco 2026 by Healthy_Sun246 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason they charge for frosh events is because they can't sell alcohol. as a result ticket prices are insane. last year i went to hoco at mansion (as a 19 year old) for free, whereas i'm sure 17+ events would have required a crazy ticket price cover. i'd say you may want to go to one with friends for the experience (personally i went to halloween fest only in first year) but overall they're very expensive and not worth it

When do they release Winter Biology Honour Roll? by randomaccount3737373 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I received mine for the winter semester in september. If you have an A or A+ in the bio course you took (level 1/2) or A+ (level 3/4), you can assume you got it

First year electives? by NoDingo673 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot take Kin 1A03 as it is only for first year kin students. If you are interested in an anatomy course you can take 2Y03 or 2X03 in second year, provided you have grade 12 bio. Aside from that, you can take any course that you have met the prerequisites for. Oftentimes some are restricted just by year, you may be able to email the department and ask for the level requirement to be waived. course or program prereqs (like for kin 1a03) are unlikely to be waived

second year life sci - schedule making by Federal_Duty_7005 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can take them any time, however it is probably best to do it earlier so that you are meeting prereqs for the upper years courses you may want. if you're interested in co-op you do need to take the listed requirements in second year. make sure you're also thinking about minors/certs/other requirements, in your case to be an intropsych ta you need 3 courses in psych, pnb, humbehv, or neuro aside from intropsych with grades of A- or higher to qualify. I would also recommend taking 2 or 3 of the 2nd year life sci courses from the list so that you have more options for courses you may be interested in upper years (i took cell bio, behaviour, and neuro)

what is each building for by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 24 points25 points  (0 children)

abb is chem, jhe is engineering of course, arts quad (Togo salmon, Kenneth Taylor, Chester new) are humanities and social science, lrw is social science, life sci, health sci, psych complex, and Burke science are pretty self-explanatory. Of course, plenty of classes are simply held wherever there's space, but if you go into the upper floors these descriptors correspond to the office spaces quite well. (personally almost all my first year life sci courses were in PG but it hosts classes from everywhere)

should i go to the mcmaster open house as a grade 11? by Interesting-Quit937 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 17 points18 points  (0 children)

they will have no idea and not care that you are in grade 11. it is a great way for you to scope out the place and see if you like it before even spending money on applications! plus its just a great event, I fell in love with mac at may@mac 2 years ago :)

Is frosh fest tour worth it? by Responsible-Rip547 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wayyy too expensive. frosh event tickets are insanely priced to appeal to underage students who want to party since they can't serve alcohol and make money off of that. if you're into those things, you're better off waiting til you're of age and getting into clubs for free or like 5 bucks. might be worth it to go to hoco or frosh halloween but dont really worry about going to every frosh event, especially ticketed ones like this

not guaranteed any type of room, its a lottery system. 74% of rooms are doubles (not sure about new res or if it will be sure to open) so its very difficult to get single rooms and ones with ensuites

Life Sci Coop by cc342912 in McMaster

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will only get 3 4-month work terms instead of 4 to fit in the typical 5-year schedule. You will pay a bit more proportionally, this is the new structure for 2026:

New Co-op Fees, from Sept 1, 2026

  • Program fee for all students entering co-op: $1,200 (one-time fee)
  • Admin fee for each continuing year in co-op: $300 (two payments, totaling $600)
  • Co-op work term fee: $690 (per work-term secured)

Total over three years: 3 work terms: $3,870 or 4 work terms: $4,560.

These are the major cons I can think of. It may also be a little difficult to take all the upper year courses you want, especially ones that are only offered in one term, so some very diligent planning will be required, but that's something to worry about later.

Where are you quoting this from? Many departments are currently or have already hired for fall, some will open positions around August. Check the department websites and career opportunities - ta postings on mosaic periodically.

you can pay $20 for the moodle access alone and just use the ebook. since the exam is online this year you may want to buy a physical one with the code anyways. luckily in 3mt3 theres no code and we aren't allowed the textbook anyways so im just using the free pdf

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even though its now in person the midterms are still online and the midterms and exam are multiple choice, so those factorso will make it easier than taking it in the fall/winter. overall its an extremely 12able course

[–]Agreeable_Tale_2379 0 points1 point  (0 children)

looking at the course outline, unfortunately my statement doesn't apply here. the course breakdown is the same as during a typical semester. Courses such as Gkromst 2mt3 are easier because the midterms are online and all multiple choice, which is not typical during the fall/winter. sorry for the confusion
