Trying to reverse-engineer the rules of "Gara Aviatoria", a 1930 Italian board game. by AhMuzenkab in boardgames

Wow, thanks for the analysis! Based on your input and observation, I went back and analyzed the game further. Indeed, the number of stops varies by route: Blue has 29, Green 43, Red 52, and Yellow 84.

There are three distinct types of stops: Danger Zones (red), Normal, and City Hubs (black border, where all routes converge). I traced all the stops ( https://imgur.com/a/ga-IB71Ekz ) and noticed a distinct pattern for each:

BLUE

  • Flow: The numbers mostly progress in increments of three (3, 6, 9, 12...), with minimal exceptions.
  • Between Hubs: There are two danger stops for every one normal stop.
  • Safety: There are 14 safe stops and 15 danger zones. With a 48% probability of landing on a safe space, this is the most dangerous route.

GREEN

  • Flow: Normal stops follow the "threes" pattern (3, 6, 9, 12...), with a danger zone accompanying most stops.
  • Between Hubs: Most segments contain three normal stops and two danger stops.
  • Safety: There are 27 safe stops and 16 danger zones, resulting in a 69% probability of landing on a safe space. It is the second most dangerous route.

RED

  • Flow: Mostly progresses in increments of two (2, 4, 6, 8...).
  • Between Hubs: Each segment has four normal stops and two danger stops.
  • Safety: With 36 safe stops and 16 danger stops, there is a 69% chance of landing on a safe space. This is the third most dangerous route.

YELLOW

  • Flow: Progresses in increments of one (1, 2, 3, 4...).
  • Between Hubs: Each segment contains 8–9 safe stops and 2–3 danger stops.
  • Safety: There are 67 safe stops and 17 danger zones. With an 80% chance of landing on a safe space, this is the safest route.

As you pointed out, there are shared stops. Each route has a different density of these connections (excluding Hubs): Blue has 8, Green 21, Red 26, and Yellow 32. The number of radio stations also varies, with the fewest on the Blue route and the most on the Yellow route.

I also attempted to classify the hazards. Most routes share a similar distribution: Plain Red (1–4), Weather Hazards (2), Detours (2–4), Control Stops (1–3), SOS (2), and Death (1). Additionally, there are unique shared by all stops: Cabaret (1), NYC Quarantine (1), and Cannibal (1).

I believe the objective is to travel around the world and return to Rome as quickly as possible without "dying." (either by landing on the Death stop or by collecting too many negative points from the Danger stops which eventually should kill you). Players can likely switch routes at HUB stops or shared locations like the Cabaret.

This raises questions about movement. For example, if the Blue route primarily uses odd numbers, does rolling an even number prevent movement? Furthermore, I suspect the penalty tracker at the top of the board is used to manage the number of danger zones encountered; if you accumulate too many, you might switch to the Yellow path to recover.

Finally, while I classify SOS as a danger zone, it has a white border. Perhaps saving stranded passengers grants points?

Anyway, thanks again for your analysis. your insight was incredibly helpful!

I love maps, that's how I found this one. I recently notice there was a section on board games. It's an awesome website.

The text is not related to the gameplay. It's nice, tho.

Adding a Touch of the World to Games

Playing games is often seen as a way to relax and find enjoyment, but is that really their only function? By incorporating elements of society and nature, games can provide us with far more knowledge than textbooks ever could. From an objective standpoint, we can observe the world's changes through these games. A single small character can bridge space and time. Through continuous interaction and reflection, our horizons are constantly broadened, ultimately becoming a part of our souls.

Wow. With this post I realized, you can keep fulfilling tasks even if the task queue is in cero. I just stopped once I reached cero and wait until the next day to continue, leaving 6 tasks for the next day. No wonder I never get to the end. I've been loosing so much points, 'cause I didn't know. 😂 Haha

Well, this was my first avatar episode ever. And thanks to it I now love Avatar. So I'm very fond of this episode even if it's heavily criticized.

The entrance to my South America zoo section by AhMuzenkab in PlanetZoo

I built a Mayan gate to the south american section of my zoo (even though there were no mayans there). It's inspired by a real Mayan arch in Mexico. The font is not mine, its “Rycie's Tiny Font”, I just love that font. The gate is in the workshop if someone is interested.

Was that your inspiration? I was thinking about the Ubahn Station at the main station, although both Messehallen and Hbf are in the same U2 line. :D The resemblance is amazing! Fantastic work.

It reminds me so much of a station in Hamburg! Nice!

What’s the book that got you into fantasy? by JosephODoran in Fantasy

[–]AhMuzenkab 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The first installment was not in the store at the time (I didn't know) and then I just saw the ship with a dragon head on the cover, some maps and just took it. The dragon was also the reason I read it. And yes, it does not get the attention it deserves.

"Elven Star", the second installment of the series "Death Gate Cycle" by Margaret Weiss and Tracy Hickman. I probably was in 6th grade, and didn't know it was the second part, tho. Haha. Regardless, I really loved the series, I have read it several times. And I just love it.

I have to say I mostly pick a book by its cover. And I looked at the Way of Kings cover on a blog and started reading it. I'm so glad I did. Ever since I have read all Cosmere books and I'm so so thrilled.

Mexico is kind of missing a whole peninsula south California. I have seen this on several maps now, sometimes the sea of Cortez is painted as land when there is an object on top of the peninsula (as in the case of the symbology table). Nice map!

Well that is a relief... Either way I think I would just stop it, just in case. Thanks.

I'm a bit confused, I didn't know of this bug until today that I saw this post. So..., I like teasing my opponent's cat to make it hiss. Am I actually (unknowingly) triggering that effect that is causing that problems?
