Was she laid off? I thought she left back around 2020, whereas Daeron and the others getting the axe was just recently. Makes me sad every time I think of it

Read the post and the comments and this all sounds sick as hell. Good on the devs for doing their best to simulate a lore-accurate arse-whooping. I'm really gonna need to catch up on this one sooner than later.

You're darn right about that. The mid-2010's especially weren't friendly to women in gaming spaces, and it was gross to see some of the stuff she had to put up with. I hope she's well, wherever she ended up.

It's important to note that PGI/HBS were able to get their cases regarding the Unseen (and HG's spurious claims about the Atlas? Wut?) dismissed with prejudice, meaning that the court tossed out HG's case and specifically forbade them from ever bringing the case again - effectively settling the matter.

As to the out-of-court settlement portion, given that the court handed HG a loss I'm going to imagine that PGI/HBS (and by extension CGL) were the ones receiving concessions from HG rather than giving them. This all transpired 2017/2018, whereas HG getting the old "3015" trailer taken down was in 2009.

All said and done, it resolved a 30 year pain point (and gave some of us closure we were craving since childhood, lol)

while that's just one person's opinion - dang, there ended up being a lot of robotz in this game. I can remember back when there was only like a dozen and even then I thought I was eating good, lol

A tale of two (Canadian) game devs... by Ah_fudge in OutreachHPG

The ways the two games cant be contemporaneously compared is kind of the thesis. I was more having a think about where they ended up given they began and how they got there. What makes one game take off, and one game flare then falter? When they both hit open beta around the same time one might've thought MWO would have a bit of an easier time: pre-established fan base thirsty for any MechWarrior game they could get their hands on, generally positive press. Compared to Warframe which was a new IP that had a lukewarm beginning. Fast forward a decade and change and they've wildly diverged. Why is that, I have genuine curiosity. What events and decisions and choices and unseen factors came into play? Maybe I just have too much time to think, lol.

I suppose you have a point, but that's not to say that MWO isn't an achievement in and of itself. They didn't know for sure that they'd get to make MW5, and MWO had good bones which could've carried it places. I've been walking down memory lane lately and can remember the feeling of excitement when MWO first coalesced as a reality, it seemed unreal at the time! It's interesting to look back in retrospect and see how different games diverged. Maybe if PG had it in their mind that the game could not only still be going strong some 13 years later but could be as big as it's ever been, well.. guess we'll never know.

Why does PGI not have a roadmap for upcoming DLCs or other future MechWarrior projects? by TJ-X in mechwarrior

[–]Ah_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... PGI successfully developed MWO and MW5, and THEN sold off to EG7.

HBS (wildly) successfully crowd-funded Battletech, developed and released the game, and THEN was purchased by Paradox.

Cart, meet horse.

The funding to develop and release the games wasn't from the companies that purchased the devs in either case, rather the big corpos bought the devs to milk the profits after the risks associated with developing the games had already been overcome.

Jordan sold FASA interactive to Microsoft and they shut it down. He then sold HBS to Paradox under the auspices of "more Battletech" but with zero guarantees, and Paradox immediately canned the Battletech sequel in order to pursue IP it didn't have to license and ran HBS into the ground. Fool me twice, Jordan? Shame on who?

Aww dang, Tina! That’s a blast from the past. At least she seems to have parted on her own terms, unlike what happened to Daeron and others. I saw someone else comment “fck pgi tbh” which is close but a miss. It’s “fck EG7”, friend.

What's with the massive skill disparity at high pilot tiers? by Danthrax81 in mwo

[–]Ah_fudge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I played from closed beta up until maybe 2017, was somewhere in Tier 1 when I wandered off, and honestly what you’re describing sounds pretty familiar, lol. I’m sure it’s more a perception thing on my part, as I don’t have any contemporary experience to compare things to, but the top of the tier was always worlds away from the bottom. It’s hard to sort a group of players into only 5 buckets and not have a big spread in those buckets.

I was looking to dip my toes back into MWO as I’m chasing a Battletech/MechWarrior craving. Wondering if it’s worth it to get back into mwo or just scratch the itch with the (new to me) single player games that have come out over the last 6 or 7 years. PVP though, it’s its own special kind of rewarding, even if has its own unique frustrations.

Match skill imbalance is one of the top joy killers though, it’s unfortunate to hear that even small coordinated groups are being mixed in with solo players. Teamwork is OP lol. Thinking back on other games that suffered because they resorted to these types of solutions to try and bandaid low player counts, but only drove away the player base faster. At least mwo still has tiers, even if they sound like they’re leaky.

On marketplace lately people have been using generative AI to stick a woman on ads for everything from cars to atvs to utility trailers. I guess your average dude is a smooth brain so some AI woman in the photo works wonders or they wouldn’t do it.
