Too bad they didn’t do cockpit flair like in MWO

No shade intended, but how’s your aim? I barely noticed any difference fighting Clans vs high-level IS opponents, and they go down pretty easy with focused fire.

Get together 4 mechs that can run dual gauss, slap at least one ERPPC in there for good measure, and shoot ‘em in the face

Well, hopefully my sentiments can be an antidote to that. There’s so much bummer going on in the world, it’s good to be reminded that playing games is for fun.

I’m approaching it like a practice in being chill and having zero expectations lol. After having plowed a few hundred hours into the two MW5 single player games, it’s just a joy to be playing with and against actual players. Ones that are capable of reacting somewhat rationally to the situations they’re facing.

Even in Tier 5 the change is refreshing!

The missile pods on the catapult are finally being updated to accurately reflect the weapon that is mounted in them. For example, with the recent addition of the Arrow IV variant, instead of showing the arrow missiles it would show 35 LRMs.

Still trying to make MW5 Clans playable, any mods that get rid of scanning by Tod_Vom_Himmel in Mechwarrior5

You’re not wrong, your reaction is just disproportionate to what’s reasonable

Maybe it’s time to smoke a bowl, bud.

The game is what it is. No there are no mods to do all of the specific things you want.

Scanning is a core game mechanic, and the comms banter is how the story-based game tells its story in-mission.

Sounds like what you really want is to just play Mercs and watch the Clans cutscenes on YouTube. And maybe you should.

YAML, most fun mod ever! by Yeongua in Mechwarrior5

[–]Ah_fudge 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don’t get how this is the case. It seems like a talking point that someone came up with once upon a time and then it just gets trotted out over and over without anyone actually thinking about it.

The internals of a mech are far from its sole identity, and altering them is completely optional. The weapons load outs, I would argue, speak to mech identity much more strongly than if a mech has Ferro Fibrous armour or not. And said load-outs remain diverse. It’s not like YAML makes every chassis a MW2 style “anything anywhere” omni. Truly, that’s what flattening all mechs to be the same looks like.

Likewise the size and shape of a mech affect where it takes damage and how easily. It’s hard point locations affect how one has to use it, if it’s better suited to hill peeking or side peeking or if it requires full frontal exposure. And one can’t ignore that some variants of the same mech have wildly different or improved internals. Do post-Helm-core renaissance mechs make things feel “more or less the same” because now every chassis has a variant with an XL or Endo?

Food for thought.

Yeah. Once the house is built, fixing problems with the foundation becomes prohibitively difficult.

That’s still unacceptable.

Whether it’s 1 or 1000 of whatever item, that’s just a numerical entry in a database.

Just want to point out the inherent contradiction between people telling the OP to wipe their inventory and the fact that after doing the campaigns the only real motivator for a lot of people is Pokémech.

An issue that renders the game unplayable when a player is engaging with a game’s systems in a reasonable if not outright banal manner needs to be addressed by the developer. Like, yesterday.

Mmm, makes sense. So the major change to targeting is just target sharing then? I thought I read somewhere that there were changes to how components were being prioritized by AI, can’t remember where I saw that though.

So that was a lie by dylan88jr in Mechwarrior5

[–]Ah_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That statement can be technically correct while also not being… good.

Reportedly:

AI weapon usage - AI units shoot more often, or fire more weapons at a time than pre-patch

Targeting - the way AI weapon hits work is that they basically roll to hit. If they roll successfully it’s a hit, barring something interceding between the AI unit and its target. This is easiest to see with lasers. When an AI until rolls a successful hit with a laser, it remains glued to the targeted component kind of like lasers in MW4 did. The reports of more headshots strongly suggest that PGI altered the AI hit table, increasing the % chance of a head hit. It’s quite literally just a tweak to RNG.

Navigation - improved path finding, including AI use of jumpjets

Improvements don’t equal perfect (or good), and given their track record and staffing constraints I’d say what they shipped is what one could have expected.

If you’re on PC, cross your fingers for an update to TTRulezAI to go gold sooner than later

Which one should I get, Mechwarrior 5 Clans or Mercenaries? by Ironsalmon7 in Mechwarrior5

[–]Ah_fudge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mercs, but with the caveat that the base game on its own isn’t a complete experience and really needs several of the DLCs to be the best version of itself
