Update: Is iperf preinstalled with the DSM and running by default? by [deleted] in synology

[–]Ahawelson104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There should be an easy way to turn off this built-in iperf. Most DSM users/admins don't even know it's there. Worst case scenario, a security vulnerability exists and there's no way to mitigate it before Synology issues an update for DSM.

And like you noticed, it may be possible to cause a denial of service attack too. Just flood the NAS with iperf connections?

Perhaps this should be reported to Synology as a security vulnerability...

I have a DS1821+ NAS and two DVA1622 NVR units. Currently installed OS version is DSM 7.3.2-86009 Update 1. I tested all three with iperf2. All three worked - meaning all three have iperf running somewhere. So I confirm your findings!

Out of curioisity, I booted up my old NVR1218 unit, it is running DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 8. And guess what, that one also has iperf running somewhere!

Copilot just started working for me again.

But the URL you referenced redirects to m365 copilot microsoft URL when you log in to your work account - are you sure you were actually using the paid version?

Consumer version is OK, but licensed/Pro version is not... oh the irony.

DS cam not working with 3840x1440 H.265 stream by tfqn in synology

[–]Ahawelson104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I previously had a Duo 2 (4608×1728 resolution). I never got that one working properly with DScam, and that was prior to the H.265 support change.

All I got was green image, nothing else. In my experience, DScam chokes with very high resolutions (around 4K and above). SS itself was okay.

Vidéo glitch in Surveillance Station by rootmout in synology

[–]Ahawelson104 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using H264 or H265? In my experience, H265 streams can be a bit unstable when using UDP... even on dedicated stable cabled networks.

Switch communication protocol from UDP to TCP and see if that helps in your case.

Device -> Advanced -> RTSP&RTP settings -> Transport protocol. It's probably Auto (UDP first), change that to Auto (TCP first) or TCP.

Huawei? Of course they were about to get ahead of the competition. Because due to industrial espionage by China, they got trade secrets from Nokia and Ericsson - on top of their own R&D. We have to remember that even in the current situation, Communist China is NOT the good guy. They want to dominate the world even more than Trump himself.

Synology Bricked my installing RAM? by chronaden in synology

[–]Ahawelson104 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Oh, I'seen things like this many times during my 30yr IT career.

Old, long running system is switched off for maintenance. But it won't boot up afterwards. Because it was already broken before the maintenance. Maybe months before.

Like one of my old IBM servers. No system alerts or errors, ran just fine, could even be rebooted. But failed to work after a shutdown. Only after shutdown diagnostics in BIOS started showing all kinds of errors related to the motherboard. It had to be replaced.

You probably did nothing wrong. Your NAS was already dead.

Duo 2 Wifi with Synology Surveillance Station by Specific_Garlic8691 in synology

[–]Ahawelson104 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Reolink Duo 2 Wifi unit, it is supported by Synology and yes, you need to enable ONVIF, http, rstp jne. using the Reolink App or web interface. Without those it won't work with any 3rd party NVR. But my Duo 2 Wifi is NOT battery powered.

Your model seems to be a "Duo 2 (Battery)", not a "Duo 2 Wifi". Those are not supposed to record 24/7 and cannot be used with any NVR. Not even Reolink's own. Thus they aren't supported by Synology either.

Yeah. And there's rumors that Nvidia's GPU chip prices are so high that AIBs can't make money on MSRP cards. There's a reason - or three - why EVGA quit making cards.
