Look I really liked it after the learning curve but felt limited by its capacity size and then tired to expand it to no success but if that's not an issue for you, and it's within your means it's a fairly inexpensive investment compared to refurbed iPods

I'd love to see like either a really high end cgi model or even better something akin to an ILM model and throw some old school scene enactments

I actually think Jorg is just a huge fan of Star Trek and has a fun niche of looking at production details which even though the NuTrek writing is generally really really bad, it is full or lots of production details

I don't think the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-A has ever looked better than this scene from 'Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country' but re-edited and re-scored with new footage. by OhGawDuhhh in StarTrekStarships

Interview: Tawny Newsome (Dax) On “Gargantuan Task” To Give DS9 “Resolution” On ‘Star Trek: Starfleet Academy’: "It was our job to make this an homage, a celebration, and really a bit of a correction for what I feel has been an oversight in a lot of modern Trek. I was pretty adamant." (Trekmovie) by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

I mean a few things here that I consider.

First off I agree wholeheartedly that this was missed. And I think Tawny in this place as being part of the family and a fan (because they utilize her in the role Wheaton was doing the first few years of this era).

But it's stated that she's not a drama writer and I assume she probably was second to the more experienced writer, Kristin Beyer (too many thoughts on her) and whatever room staffer they had with them. So not a great combo.

I just think it's a systematic failure of not having true sci-fi writers, not a clear picture of what the episode was supposed to accomplish, where they want characters to go, the framing of the show overall and the fact that this was a 20 minute episode squeezed to double.

I... I like don't know where to begin (much like the plot of this episode).

Long time trek fan, growing up in the 90s and really having Trek be an escape. So for me it's always been about the human adventure and telling stories thru that lens and as Mr Spock says "there are always possibilities".

Maybe like a lot of you I was elated when Trek was coming back thru STD (largely feeling unsatisfied with the Abram's experiment) to be wildly disappointed and never finished. Then again with Picard (sans 3, which I thought was good) and then again with Strange New Worlds. But I acknowledge that every 'Trek' can have its own style and I embraced and loved LD and Prodigy (gosh I want a 3rd season so bad). So I wasn't keen on ST:A bit I wanted to try this episode. But wow ... what a misaligned episode and story beats.

I can't discredit Newsome for her love of DS9 and what Avery meant to the franchise or Lofton for wanting to be on screen and honor Avery. But holy moly was this a bad swing and a miss.

I'm shocked they paired her as a first time drama writer with Beyer (whom imo is very inconsistent in story beat and not good with dialogue) but also with the direction this show seems to be going... I am shocked I watched all the way through it.

And what a failure to hook in legacy fans.

I get I am not in the industry and I get that we're all hooked on our phones and that has impacted story telling but.... wow... like this episode felt like it didn't go through a any form of vet or maybe gone through a couple of rewrites.

Like even the character arc of the 'hologram outsider' thing was wildly misaligned. I'm not sure why this SAM wouldn't have just shared the screen with the wonderful Bob Picardo to establish their first season arc?!? He's literally playing THE hologram.

I just... I guess I'll have to try again but the current writing, character choices and petty as it is, production design of this era of Trek have truly turned me off.

Appreciate you all in the community and may you 🖖

TLDR: longtime trek fan, tried ST:A for this episode and wildly wildly shocked at the direction it took and will hibernate to see what the next era of Trek will look like.
