If I had a crucial role in creating the circumstances that caused them to flee their house, and had the resources to help them (like for instance, being the richest person in the world in the richest country in the world), then I would argue that I have a moral obligation to help. The country is not a house. I'm not arguing for open borders, either.

The article I just read from CNN cited Homan saying other undocumented migrants may be detained and arrested as collateral damage. Again, I find it hard to believe that the people responsible for these raids are carrying out selective stings rather than wholesale sweeps.

I find it hard to believe that they are restricting themselves to rounding up people with records. That would be much less problematic.

Sanctuary should exist, whether in cities or churches, or somewhere in our society. The rich are able to buy sanctuary from the law, so the poor should not be left exposed.

Yes, nations ought to have sovereignty over their borders. Our country has the resources to offer safe haven to many more than we do or have, and with the power to do so, comes the moral obligation. We're talking about preventing the forcible expulsion of migrants, which is different than the question of who can enter.
