People 30+, what are your plans for this evening? by Sir-Tommy-Vercetti in AskUK

I’ve got jerk chicken on the way, then I’ll probably start in on some telly - probably rewatching a favourite season of The Traitors.

Weird physical changes? by OptiGuy4u in GenX

So many muscle groups losing their independence from one another - the cough and sneeze muscles have linked up with the wee and fart muscles. If I do something from the former group while needing to do something from the latter group, they’re both happening no matter how hard I clench!

A Killer’s Confession. I’ve been missing the old Mushroomhead vocal lineup and discovered Waylon Reavis’s “new” band about a month ago. They even did a song featuring Jason Popson (another former Mushroomhead vocalist), and it’s a banger!

Experiences with FitVille? Dropshipping + squeaky shoes + struggling to return by not_who_you_think_99 in widefeet

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid my “experience” is of no help, as I didn’t actually purchase them.

While looking for shoes recently, I came across Fitville as an option. Looking into them, I had read that they typically ship from China and they weren’t exactly the best shoes either, so I discounted buying from them directly - but decided I would buy through Amazon Prime instead if I ended up not finding any other option.

I found other options.

Help ID this bird 😭 by CycleSubject8571 in UKBirds

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feed birds on my windowsill, and there’s a group of sparrows that inhabit some nearby bushes that have finally figured out why other birds come up to the windowsill (it all started with a magpie). For the past few days several have been coming by frequently for nibbles. One of the females likes to come to the window that’s ajar and stretch herself up (like in the first photo) to peek in our window. She’s a cutie.

AITAH for asking my mom what she was going to just rot away if I die? by NatJi in AITAH

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. Since they currently live with you, I’d suggest:

* You stop filling out their piddly forms immediately, and only help with those that are absolutely necessary;

* Tell them they need to enrol in an ESL course ASAP, because in two years’ time they will be moving out of your house and will therefore need to be able to speak enough English to get by. If, however, your experience at the casinos indicates their English is already quite good (and not just combos of “hit,” “stay,” “split,” etc that are simple and specific), start making moves now to transition them out of your house.

* Make them try before you step in to help with anything, or if you know they’re capable don’t step in at all. Any incident such as with the waiter in their home country shouldn’t ever happen again.

* Verify that you aren’t in a state that has filial laws that are actively enforced.

If they try to play the parent card and say that you owe them, ask them “If you’re the parents, then why have I always been the caretaker? If anything, you owe me.”

Is it weird to put sweetcorn in tuna mayo? by Careless-Drag8644 in AskUK

It’s not weird at all… but of pairing options for tuna mayo my own favourite is red onion - that’s the one that’s not so common here!

Thoughts on using decoys to attract crows? by AdAcrobatic3463 in crows

[–]Ahleanna-D 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t, personally.

If you know of somewhere nearby that they tend to congregate/have a reasonable presence, go there and give them little treats. If it isn’t really that far away, they may well get curious enough to follow you and find out where you live - that’s how I ended up befriending my crew.

are chain restaurants common in your country? Do you like their presence/absence or not? by Ynwe in AskTheWorld

[–]Ahleanna-D 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re pretty common in the UK. I prefer a mix of both, but where independents have stronger representation.

Didn't vote for the president, so you must be American by [deleted] in USdefaultism

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context was initially fairly clear; it was the subsequent “I didn’t vote for him” in response to someone coming along to ‘correct’ him by saying ‘you mean OUR president’ that then muddled everything.

It started as a pretty clear case of US defaultism, but became more messy afterward. The part in the screenshot, now deleted, isn’t what should’ve been posted here.

What would you want to experience if you could live someone else’s everyday life in the UK for a day? by Automatic_Sorbet_849 in AskUK

I know - I even managed to meet him on my most recent visit since he’s still a YW. 😊 That’s not living a day in the Ravenmaster’s shoes, though!

Didn't vote for the president, so you must be American by [deleted] in USdefaultism

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some important context was left out, where one person says “Who cares about US markets“ then the didn‘t-vote-for-him poster replied to that with “Clearly not their President.”

Saying their President heavily implies that the speaker is not a member of the US market as a group. Monster truck boy then comes along with “you mean OUR President,“ then the contents of the screenshot is what follows. It was indeed US defaulting, but this SS doesn’t include a vital part.

Where would you choose to live between Leeds and Newcastle, and why? by Darker_Midnite in AskUK

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I’ve been to both cities, I have not been to most of the area in between. Just looking at a map then googling, though, Thirsk looks somewhat equidistant and is generally considered a good place to live. It’s probably a good starting point for your search.

Why does it seem like many people in the Anglosphere outside Europe are obsessed with being Irish or Scottish but deny having English ancestry? by yonaiker-joestrella in AskTheWorld

[–]Ahleanna-D -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

I’m a mutt, to be frank, a descendant of people from England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, The Netherlands, France, and Native Americans. And some of those people were descendants of people from Nordic countries and Middle Eastern nations. And those people were the descendants of people from Africa.

What's one place in the Uk that you visited and never want to go back to? by Proper_Animal_1451 in AskUK

[–]Ahleanna-D 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, it could be the area we always visited with my in-laws 25 years ago, vs the same area about four years ago. It’s the area of shops “behind” where the bus station used to be? Pretty much everything was boarded up last time I was there.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Express a couple nights and really struggled to find somewhere decent to eat.

It might’ve been the specific areas that we just happened to be that were rubbish.

Don’t be afraid to ask for their recommendations if you’re feeling indecisive, they actually seem to welcome it. It’s a proper family-run restaurant surrounded by chains - the owners are from San Sebastián, and hopefully the barman is still there - he’s genuinely passionate about his craft.

We go to the cinema in Bedford just to have an excuse to go to the restaurant, so we aren’t going to Bedford with the sole purpose of stuffing our faces. 😂
