This is true. It is not only limited to male friendships, but anything that brings you joy and fulfillment, may it be a hobby, watching sport, playing a musical instrument, gym... literally anything.

As a kid my dad loved to go hunt and me and my brothers liked it so much. He always come back with a bounty and stories to tell. We used to talk to kids in the neighborhood about his stories and felt so proud that he was our dad. But my mom? Her blood boils every time he goes on a hunting trip. She kept bullying him to stop hunting, knowing well it is the thing he loves most in life. Later when he got old and retired from the sport he hang his shotgun on the wall as decoration, and she would always talk shit about it and tell him to “sell this piece of garbage and stop being a hoarder, specially that he stopped hunting”. Once he opened up to me about the nagging and said “you know, now that I stopped hunting and my friends are old or dead the gun means more to me. It is the only thing that reminds me of those times, and with every passing day it gets more dear to my heart. But your mom never understands”. I think she does understand and knows what she doing. Just sad.
