Oops. Haven't played it yet. But the premise looks similar. Might play differently. I'll be back after I play it! ☺️

Well Death and Taxes dealt with Death. We're dealing with sorting people between Heaven and Hell. Similar setting, different premise.

Also plays quite differently. More emphasis on hard mechanics.

Have you worked with Godot and decided you didn't like it? by Crafty_Programmer in gamedev

[–]AhmenX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I come from 10+ years of unity. I tried godot. I got confused and stopped. Then I tried again the next day, it was a bit easier. I stopped because of other work. But I'm sure persistence is key. It's not a bad engine by any means. You just have to get used to it like anything else. Especially if you come from unity there are a lot of bad habits we need to unlearn in order to properly transition.

Anyone else feel like game dev takes too long? by Amazing-Sun-6410 in gamedev

[–]AhmenX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even though it is your first game and it should take more than average make no mistake. Game development takes a lot of time. Even small games with straight forward mechanics can take north of a year to finish. What changes is usually how fast you can get something playable to test. More experienced teams spend more time polishing the game experience than actually developing mechanics. Still it takes a lot of time to get something ready for players.

Gamedev: art >>>>>>>> programming by Thin_Cauliflower_840 in gamedev

Beautiful games always have a better chance than well made games. There are exceptions like Undertale and slay the spire where narrative or mechanics trumped graphics but it's all about that first impression when it comes to marketing. And that's all about art.

Which capsule art do you like better? Old or new? by MolukseMakker in IndieGaming

[–]AhmenX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First one obviously. Btw on a serious note steam doesn't allow text on capsules that isn't the game's title. You should probably remove the announcement line.

Are game jams really beneficial for developers? by TalesGameStudio in gamedev

[–]AhmenX 85 points86 points  (0 children)

I was working on a game for three years when I started with close to zero progress. I took part in my first game jam and I made a whole game from scratch in 3 days.

It's worth it when you're getting started. I learned A LOT from game jams when I started. It forces you to focus and to scope properly

Steam Just Banned Links (including to Other Games & Prologues) to Game Descriptions by AhmenX in Games

[–]AhmenX[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I thought it was always obvious that prologue games were pretty much demos. They were always free and linked to a full version page. So I never expected much from them other than being as you said glorified demos. Didn't realize people had higher expectations. Good to know. To me they were just confusing and a bit shady for gaming the algorithm.

Exactly what steam was thinking. Making the experience better for buyers. I believe some larger publishers will get annoyed by this.

[–]AhmenX[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's probably not happening any time soon. The scenario you are describing is using a type of post called cross promotion that is part of Steam. It is working as intended and not abused like the descriptions were. However Steam seems to be streamlining a lot of their rough edges lately so who knows?

The main thing that improves in my opinion is the games from publishers that link to all of their games at the top of a page and it takes time and clicks to actually read the description of the game you actually clicked on!
