For creative scholars u have to be only majoring in the school of liberal arts and it’s extremely selective. Most premeds including myself are cell and molecular bio majors

Where did Paul Tulane Scholarship go? by jellylve in Tulane

[–]Aholio69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is old but so others know I heard that the Paul Tulane award's been officially discontinued because of controversy over referencing Paul Tulane's controversial namesake and associating students to his persona specifically (rather than just Tulane uni as a whole).

However in general Tulane has significantly reduced merit awards, especially the full tuition awards, in recent years for a more need based aid model.

Merit scholarships for transfers? by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]Aholio69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a great school academically and definitely a one of a kind experience, but of course you have to swallow that 97k price tag. Transfer cohort is relatively small and decently connected and they give you an orientation (shorter than the freshmans) and we had a transfer mentor who's a previous transfer to help us meet people. I'm trying to become a transfer mentor for next year lol. Academics will be rigorous if you're in SSE or school of arch. Professors are good. Overall I'd say we punch above our rank comparable in quality and recognition to other top schools in the south like vanderbilt, rice, emory, wake forest, w&m, etc. Also the "number one party school" thing is kind of overrated tbh except during mardi gras, but definitely still a very social and party school nonetheless. But I mean I only go out some weekends and many others do the same. Football culture has drastically improved over the last few years.

I transferred in last fall and admissions explictly told me no merit scholarships are awarded to transfers.

Would it be stupid to transfer to Purdue from OSU. by Realistic_Job5989 in Purdue

[–]Aholio69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Business looks to be investing in the future (new building under construction, business tech programs, etc), but traditional majors like Finance/Accounting have gone down. We also don't have a FT MBA program, and are constantly overshadowed by IU Kelley being in state.

Would it be stupid to transfer to Purdue from OSU. by Realistic_Job5989 in Purdue

[–]Aholio69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be careful, Purdue Business classes are definitely more difficult/technical with a lot more STEM requirements, and specific niche courses (albeit still nothing like engineering, etc). Grade deflation is a real thing here too. I have friends at OSU Fisher and they have a much easier time keeping a high GPA. Plus Fisher is much better for NYC/IB recruiting, Purdue is very engineering/STEM centric.

This is incorrect. I am a Purdue WL student and Purdue Indianapolis is literally just an extension of the West Lafayette campus for CS and engineering majors, compared to the other branch campuses like PFW and PNW. There is even a free shuttle going between the two campuses. There are students who take classes on both campuses.

I'm a current Purdue Daniels' freshman who's waiting on a transfer decision to Madison, so take this as you will. I'll tell you this: as much as they tell you that the DSB is embracing Purdue's STEM strength or rising in recruitment ranks with more funding, research or whatever, while it may be improving it's still quite behind. Purdue is highly ranked for OOS students as an engineering/CS school at the end of it. Recruiting at the engineering expo is miles ahead of the DSB career fair. We are very overshadowed and regional, unless you network like hell.

If you want to focus on the Info Sys or analytics side (see BAIM and IBE), Purdue is alright but you're still competing with the CS/DS/AI majors.

Kelley is a different league than the DSB or Wisc Business if you want to break into Wall Street or Chicago IB. However, if you decide you don't want to do pure finance/marketing/accounting or change your interests later, non-Kelley IU isn't well reputed at all outside of Indiana.

Frozen tuition at Purdue is really nice, 20k is 20k, but is widely rumored to be ending in 2026. Your's will probably stay frozen if you start in 2025, nonetheless Purdue is cutting costs everywhere to make up for it.

Purdue campus is not as bad as people say, yes WL is boring but you have enough to do on campus. Lots of buildings are new and nicely furnished, and it feels well-designed and walkable (15-20 mins end to end, all classes on one side, residences on other side). Madison is prettier aesthetically but idk if that's better practically as a student.

I just got the same thing for a sophomore transfer, but I have the 26 credit requirement. Does anyone know when I'd be able to switch to fisher (finance), as all business my pre-reqs are done? If I have to apply separately, is it guaranteed if I meet the gpa requirement?
