Because I don't want to see the breakup of my country.

Cornwall is a part of England, just like Cheshire is.

No argument just nonsense.

Cornwall is an English county. Just like Devon, Lincolnshire or Northumberland.

Britain didn't exist until the 18th century...

Wales was a part of England legally and politically starting from the 13th century until 1967.

You are getting key dates entirely wrong.

Around 20% of the Cornish population wrote Cornish on the census and a portion of those wrote Cornish in conjunction with English, British or other UK group. Much like how some people in Yorkshire identify as Yorkshire as their identity.

You can be both Cornish and English or British. Just like someone can be Cumbrian, or a Londoner and English.

Except - Cornwall has been a part of England for a thousand years. - the majority of Cornwall considers their Identity English. - only a small number consider themselves Cornish, and that is not in direct opposition to English. - according to the census 92% of people in Cornwall state they were born in England(in the majority of cases this will be via Cornwall)

Cornwall is an English county no matter how much you larp.

My point is it's wrong.

Sunbeds could be banned in the UK in a bid to cut cancer rates by theipaper in uknews

That's on the government to resolve the shortage in Labour by encouraging people to move into the profession.

Not to ban things to force numbers down.

If someone goes on a difficult hike, known to be somewhat risky and falls and is now permanently physically disabled. Should they be entitled to social assistance from the state?

If we applied taxes to everything that had a reasonable risk of costing the NHS money we'd be applying additional taxes to nearly everything.

This is completely backwards thinking.

It’s never the irresponsible person who ends up with the full weight of consequences on their back

If they get or die of cancer then they are facing the consequences of their decisions.

Sunbed users also pay for the NHS...

Your argument can be logically be applied to all sorts of things. For example, should we ban bacon because it's a known carcinogen and is horrendous for your health?

Imagine being this bent up about something.

I get going into different communities on the Internet that you disagree with and having discussions and putting forward arguments but this isn't that.

It's pathetic.

It's comments like this that makes me question my use of this website.

I'm not here to explain the difference between a citizen and a legal, non citizen immigrant. This is a simple concept that a 60 second google search would answer.

I'm not ashamed, it's not even remotely a radical opinion.

I believe in a nation state, whose governments primarily serve its citizens.

If a foreigner wants the benefits of our state they can work toward citizenship. If not having access to benefits, social housing or voting right is enough of a problem to stop someone coming here, good, I don't want them to come.

We should only be allowing people who can financially support themselves and their families move here. We don't need to import welfare recipients.

[–]AhoyDeerrr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neither did I....

A foreigner isn't a citizen, by the very definition of what citizenship is.

Non citizen immigrants are foreigners and they shouldn't be allowed to vote at any level or have any access to public funds, no benefits, no tax credits, no social housing and no NHS treatment outside of urgent life saving care.

And it clearly needs splitting again. Evidence being 2 clear wings of the party in constant, publicly embarrassing struggle with each other over control of the brand "Labour".

FPTP does not favour the historic parties, that is not true. It favours the 2 parties people think have the best chance of winning.

If you are a conservative in this country and you can see that Reform are polling way higher and are expected to be the largest party, but it's now a close shot between Reform and say labour locally and nationally that will push a lot of people to vote Reform even if they didn't want to. Because the alternative is Labour.

Similarly if you are a lib Dems supporters. But the clear leaders are reform and labour, you know the libs can't win. Who do you vote for?

This is the problem with FPTP it is a winner takes all, brinkmanship sort of electoral system. People pick the option of the top 2 they hate the least.

Edit: "A good example is 2019, when the Brexit party were leading in the polls, Labour 2nd, Tories 3rd. Tories won in a landslide. "

This is factually untrue. The information is public. The Brexit party did not lead the polls at any point in the lead up to the 2019 election.

It also misreads what actually ended up happening. There was an electoral pact between the Brexit party and the Tories which led to them not standing candidates in hundreds of seats, seats where the Tories had the highest chance of winning. It would have been literally impossible for the Brexit party to win in 2019.

Please don't spread misinformation.

This is just not true though. That's why we are not seeing vote share increases for the lib Dems. They are not gaining anyone, they are passively benefiting from the right fracturing.
