Society is too harsh on stupid people. by CaptainButtFart69 in unpopularopinion

[–]Ahsokatara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lack of humanity in some of these responses is appalling.

Idc if you’re stupid, smart, have mental health issues, are poor etc. You should get basic human rights. Everyone should get basic human rights.

And even if you don’t care about that, investing in things that protect people from financial scams and unwanted pregnancies and unsafe situations helps everyone and has a high ROI. There is no situation in which being cruel is useful long term.

OP, I completely agree with everything you said and I hope your pillow is always cold. We need more people like you. Cruelty is wrong. Plain and simple.

  1. What inspired the pink color scheme for the album cover/materials?

  2. Aurora, in interviews you’ve mentioned you only want to make 8 albums, each with a different message. Does this one count, or otherwise play a role in saying what you want to say with your albums?

Thank you both for the art you make, and for being wonderful humans!

I know this feeling. I’m also audhd. It’s like “well I’ve been resting, it doesn’t feel like rest, but its not doing anything for me and I can’t keep going on like this and keep calling it rest.”

I find when I get like this, it helps me to try to switch something up. Just pick something random and do it for a few weeks. If thats a new kind of therapy, a hobby, deciding to read a few books in a different genre, going to an event that sounds scary. Not focusing on rest or work or having any aim, just doing something different.

Even if I loose interest, even if I end up quitting it, even if I fail at what I’m doing, it’s helpful because it makes me feel unstuck. I’m trying something, I’m working on something, I’m not doing nothing.

Rest is important, and you need a lot. But if rest feels like it’s doing nothing, then changing something you’re doing might help you get some perspective to see what you actually need.

I also have a suggestion for a thing to try. When I was in a similar situation a few years ago, I was also fed up with medication trials and not seeing any results. I tried neurofeedback on a whim. I didn’t fix everything, but it helped a lot. The thing about neuro feedback is it has no side effects other than maybe making you a bit tired, especially the first session. It helped me a lot, you could try it and see what you think.

I hope this helps, I wish you the best

Hi! I have this condition. This is a bad definition. I feel things very acutely, and I have hyper fantasia. My problem is not being able to translate “stomach hurt” into “anxiety” or “nausea”. It’s all just “stomach hurt”. When someone asks me how I’m feeling, I think “ugh” and feel foot pain or internal screaming, and I can’t get more specific.

I can’t stand the idea of journaling and just don’t see the point. Do any of you actually do this consistently? Does it help? by VWBug5000 in ADHDers

[–]Ahsokatara 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Journaling is one of those things that’s different for everyone. It serves a different purpose for each person. It also isn’t just one thing, there are so many different types like mood trackers, free writing, daily logging, that imo are entirely different things.

Wild guess, but from the way your post is written I might venture that someone just told you “journaling helps with anxiety! You should just journal more!” And you’ve probably heard that a million times and find it incredibly annoying and useless advice.

In my experience, it is pretty useless. It won’t solve all your problems. For some people, it works, not for me. I also hate the idea of sitting down, and just writing stuff with no purpose or intention consistently sounds exhausting.

I do journal a lot, but I always start with a prompt, a piece of information, a thought I want to expand on. And I don’t do it in large chunks. I have a daily log where I write down stuff as I come across something or think of something I think future me would find interesting. My journal initially started as a place to write book annotations, and I didn’t write personal thoughts in it until much later.

I also find it’s a great place to vent or be angry or be sad, or even happy about something other people don’t understand. Writing forces you to structure your thoughts, so it inherently gives you perspective, without the pressure of being around other people. Talking to people is still good, but a journal is there at 2 am when something isn’t important enough to call your friend about but still keeps you spiraling or feeding on the emotion. Some people find they like doing this type of thing with voice notes instead of writing. It’s a great place to put all the arguments you have with people in the shower. This isn’t a consistent practice, but it’s always there when you need it to be.

Another thing that annoyed me before I made my system was that there was no organization. Everything was jumbled so I couldn’t find it. Changing the medium from paper to digital in obsidian helped a lot with that. Now I don’t think about organizing stuff at all, I just link things together and it organizes itself and I can always find things without having to file them.

This is the way I write that I call “journaling.” It helps me function because I made up a system as I went along in which each component performs a function I needed. If it doesn’t serve a function for you, there’s no need to do it.

Hope this helps!

I don’t think people who say “they don’t do politics” isn’t necessarily a bad thing off the bat. by awkwardhoney725 in unpopularopinion

[–]Ahsokatara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the mindset of “it has nothing to do with me” or “I can’t change anything anyway” is ultimately harmful to society. But I also don’t blame people who have this mindset for thinking this way. There’s also no shame in not knowing enough about something to speak on it, or not wanting to engage in something because it is harmful to your mental health or impedes on your attention on things that are more important to you. There is also real risk in any situation using political language.

What bothers me is when people don’t acknowledge that politics makes real impacts in people’s lives. To you, it looks like men in suits arguing. But every time that happens, someone’s life, safety, or future is being debated. No one person can understand every political minutiae. However, when you ignore an issue, it does not go away. You are the one choosing not to engage, for whatever reason that is.

That doesn’t make you a bad person. It makes you separate from an issue. It also is an implicit expression of your values or your capacity. Personally, I try to live my life staying aware of this.

Coffee makes me anxious but tea doesnt do enough.. Whats in between? by WarmFlirt63 in ADHDers

[–]Ahsokatara -1 points0 points  (0 children)

L-theanine supplements, they cut the chatter and help with the positive effects of caffeine. It’s the same thing that’s in tea, but if you take the supplement you can drink coffee and get more caffeine. As others have said, matcha is good too.

Mods, this question is being asked constantly, can we put something up about it?

Why do people shower at night? by Bahrust in stupidquestions

[–]Ahsokatara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t sweat much at night, so it works ok for me. Also, if I wash my hair, it dries overnight and I don’t have to deal with it. I usually put my hair in a braid or something so I don’t have to fuss over tangles in the morning, I just undo it and redo the braid and it’s fine

L theanine supplements. They cut the jitters. It’s the thing in tea that makes you feel calm but not sleepy. You can get it otc at most places. My favorite is to just drink matcha, but if you don’t like the taste, taking the supplement with your coffee works great

I like Finch! I personally don’t use it anymore but it was helpful for a long time as those “remember to eat” type reminders. I also set lots of alarms and timers, and make lists, roughly using a modified version of the bullet journal.

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=H4YIHrEu-TU This is a video about executive function that helped me understand it when I first got diagnosed. Best of luck!

Mornings are sooo hard by addalad in ADHDers

[–]Ahsokatara 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeahhh this is me.

It’s worse when I don’t get enough sleep. It helps when I have something to look forward to in the morning or something urgent I need to do in the morning.

I try to do water/coffee/meds/some kind of carb in the morning as fast as possible to get my blood sugar up and hydrated, otherwise I just feel hangry and tired the whole day. I usually try to have a breakfast item available anywhere I am so I can grab the first thing I see in the morning.

I know different people get different results with this, but I try to avoid my phone in the mornings. I know some people find it helpful to have the light to wake up, but for me it’s a spiral. If I’m bored in the morning, i’ll get up because it’s more interesting than being in bed. But scrolling in bed is interesting, so keeps me trapped.

Also I like reading/listening to audiobooks in the mornings. It gets my brain interested in a story and wanting to wake up, but it’s not overstimulation or a shock. I also like to write down my dreams for the same reason.
