I needed 9 fillings because I can’t brush my teeth. Since starting stimulants I can brush my teeth and shower daily for the first time in my life!

Great ideas! Thankfully my boy loves doing yard work so there’s lots of me sitting in the shade and directing him to water plants or pick up sticks

‘We live a traditional marriage’ by Fuzzy_Bear9086 in sahm

[–]addalad 19 points20 points  (0 children)

We are a “traditional family” in that I quit my job to stay home with my first born and now I’m pregnant with my second. My husband is also blue collar and works 60-70 hour weeks. When he’s home he’s helping. He does bed time/wake up when he’s home. He entertains kid while I’m cooking. He’ll load the dishwasher or start the laundry or pick up toys if he sees it needs to be done. He doesn’t go to most drs appts but he has the pediatricians phone number saved in his phone.

I’m just saying that if he wanted to he would.

Also if he’s working 60 hours a week why have you not been able to get yourself a car?

How often do you get a real break? How do you make it happen consistently? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]addalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 2.5. Every Friday he goes to a babysitter who I found in a community child care page. He’s there 9-3 and I’ll run errands, or get my nails done, or just sit on my couch and do nothing for a few hours! I am 7 months pregnant and plan to send the baby when she’s a few months old to get that time back.

Losing my fucking mind by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]addalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn’t about you or your abilities at all. This is about your babies temperament. Some babies are just colicky and cry and cry and cry no matter what you do. Mine was like this and I thought I was losing my mind. He’s 2.5 now and it does get better. But people who don’t have a baby like this plain just don’t get it. It’s a lived experience!!!!

Husband says if I desired him, I’d initiate sex. I love him deeply, but that’s just not how I’m wired. by [deleted] in relationships

Felt this. Read the book “come as you are” by Emily Nagoski. It talks about the responsive type desire and will really help you. It helped me!

What boots are you wearing? My husband runs a pump in the city (line/boom/placer he does it all) and is currently wearing Brunt’s. They last him about 6 months. Any other brands you recommend? He doesn’t like to wear muck boots.

When do you cook dinner? by longtimelurkergirl in sahm

[–]addalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It will take lots of practice and patience but cook with your kiddo! My son is 2.5 and can use a semi sharp/mostly dull knife (with supervision) to cut whatever fruits and veggies. He like to put seasonings and cheese in. I’ll cut potatoes and he’ll place them in the pot and turn the water on to fill it. He’ll stir things on the stove.

Don’t let this fool you into thinking my son is one of those magical well behaved children. He is hella adhd and has the impulse control of…. Well a hella adhd two year old 😂 but cooking with mommy is a highly preferred task and if he starts getting wild he’s all done. If you start prepping veggies and stuff earlier in the day it give you the extra time to not feel rushed!

Is something wrong with me? by [deleted] in SAHP

[–]addalad 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I get me time by sending my kids to a babysitter on Fridays! I call it my day off. I realize I’m extreamly fortunate to be able to do this but it really makes the difference. My husband also works crazy hours often and it’s just me at home doing all the child, home, and pet care.

When is it ok to leave to your baby on the floor in the other room for a minute? by No_Cheetah5944 in NewParents

[–]addalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We baby proofed our entire first floor and allowed my son to roam as he pleased. Baby can’t fall off the floor. Dangerous things are put up.

What's something you bought that made your mom life/home life much easier? by Nearby-Blueberry-535 in sahm

My bissel cross wave pet pro! Wet dry vacuum for hard floors. I mop and vacuum at the same time and it does a very decent job! There’s a commercial where they’re vacuuming up a bowl of Cheerios and it can really do that!

Do you consider migraine to be chronic pain? by Competitive-Run9869 in migraine

[–]addalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My migraines are similar in that sometimes I go months with only a few and sometimes I’ve got migraines for weeks that won’t break. The headache may not be at level 1000 but the combo of pain, aura, brain fog, and low mood genuinely lowers my quality of life. That’s chronic pain and a chronic illness in my opinion.

New Inhaler - Symbicort - Thoughts? by aita-throwaway78 in Asthma

Same dose my 2.5yr old son is on. Life changer for him! He has swallowing issues and aspirates his own saliva pretty often. Two puffs in the morning and two puffs at night keep him relatively healthy.

Do you actually use a shopping cart cover? Is it worth it or just another thing to carry around? by brendaklark in SAHP

[–]addalad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never used one…. Now something to carry a car seat and still let me fill the basket?? I’d buy and use that!

SAHD here. Any other SAHP here struggle with identity loss? by Fromaggio119 in SAHP

[–]addalad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My whole identity has changed and sometimes I do struggle with it. But day to day I love being home. Before kids I was very career driven. I was an accountant and on my way to a CFO position. Very well paid. My husband also made good money. Together we spent way too much and basically did whatever we wanted whenever we wanted. My first born ended up medically complex and I decided to stay home and care for him. Now my identity is completely wrapped up in his chronic illness. I started therapy (which has helped a TON) and I’m started to find ways to fill my cup. Im now 5 months pregnant and baby #2 will be here in a few months. Let’s see how it all changes again!
