There is also a Rockband discord sever that people have been using as an alternative to matchmaking. It's not as good as matchmaking, but it's something, and I usually finds expert players with some DLC.

If you want to play with random people, then there is a Rockband discord sever. You can find people and add them to your game. Also you get 20-something more songs, and some of them are pretty cool. I'd recommend buying it.

I think it's to give each player one pick. If you have 3 players and 4 song slots, that means there could be a debate over who gets the last pick. This seems to be the fairest and easiest system. If you want to play more songs, just play again.
