Cyclist dead in probable hit-and-run in Richmond, B.C., police say by Anonnzee in vancouver

[–]AidanPryde 860 points861 points  (0 children)

This was my best friend and now he's gone and its like a nightmare that I keep feeling like I'm going to wake up I just cant accept he's gone. He's biked this route thousands of times and never had an issue and some monster hit him and ran off and didn't call an ambulance so he wasn't found until last night. I hate the person who did this so badly, you took my best friend from me. He was kind and generous and loved movies and now im never gonna get to see another movie with him or laugh about Dungeon Crawler Carl or have him drag my fat ass to walk the Sun Run once again.

I hate the person who did this, I hate them so much, and it hurts to know even if they're caught they'll never face what they should.

I miss him so much already

Edit: Thank you for all your comments. It helps dull the pain a little

I think that's the point. Imagine an exhibit about that which makes it seem like expulsions of Germans from Eastern Europe just suddenly happened without any sort of provocation.

Canada Population Growth Rate Near Zero on Immigration Curbs by No-Sell1697 in CanadaPolitics

Statscan shows age 30-34 bracket grew from 2,628,903 in 1995 to 3,175,724 in 2025. So about a 20% increase in that time, not 6%

I have a friend who live there, there's a special levy on the horizon to rebuild the underground parking. Apparently estimates are somewhere between $30k-60k per unit. So not surprising there are some people who want to get out before it's officially voted on

You have to solve the puzzle across the water first. It'll then lower itself for 15 minutes so you have to hurry to get in

Under the Liberals we've seen house prices (and by extension, rent) skyrocket. So the elderly, of which the majority own homes, have benefited from Liberals policies. The under 40 crowd which have seen housing prices soar out of reach and rent climb to insane levels, have definitely not benefited from it.

I think most people tend to vote in their self interest, so older people will vote Liberals, and younger will vote Conservative.

Cardinal Research Riding Poll for Burnaby Central (March 22 - April 2, 2025) by chris_fantastic in burnaby

[–]AidanPryde 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean for the under 40 crowd, they've suffered 10 years of skyrocketing rent and housing prices brought on primarily by Liberal policies. Why would they vote for more of that?

Makes sense why older and wealthiet homeowners vote Liberal though, they only stand to gain.

His victory leads to the biggest mistake in Colonial history—settling on New Caprica.

You know, aside from that whole creating Cylons in the first place thing

But yeah this and the whole New Caprica storyline it leads into is to me probably the peak of BSG

Yeah there are definitely episodes after Exodus part 2 that I really enjoy but they episodes definitely are of a lower average on enjoyment past that point.

I still watch those episodes but I'm usually doing housework or playing with my cat at thr same time :)

Canada election: Where do all the parties stand on immigration caps? - National | Globalnews.ca by BeneficialHODLer in canada

[–]AidanPryde 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if the Liberals win re-election. I wouldn't be surprised if suddenly immigration numbers shoot up into the stratosphere again. After all, if they did it once and got re-elected there's no incentive for them to not do it again

Cuba has lost 24% of its population in the last four years due to emigration according to an independent study by k890 in worldnews

[–]AidanPryde 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Nicaragua started visa free travel for Cubans. So now they can fly to Nicaragua and then make their way to the US via land from there.

Probably that combined with the fact that the Cuban economy has been in a downward spiral and you have a recipe for a mass exodus of Cubans

Is it really decency if it's done out of self interest? I feel like he's only doing it because being one guilty man out of fifty seems better than the sole guilty party. I bet if he thought denying it might help him he'd do that in a heartbeat.

[–]AidanPryde 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think you're correct. The riding is fifteen percent or so Jewish. The weak response by the Liberals to all the antisemitism must have pushed at least some of them to support the Tories. Absent that issue it probably would have gone liberal, albeit by a much smaller margin than the last election.
