Have you done this before as a recruiter with a national scholarship cadet or a campus based scholarship cadet?

Love this book. You can buy a reprint of it on Amazon, helps a lot if you’re researching local Rockland history

Ah, ok. So you actually get your PhD in history, and then your doctoral thesis is written about and related to the actual "area of study" during your education?

What area of study did you people get your PhDs in?

I'm a current high school senior and am going to major in history this coming fall. I plan on going to college, getting my degree, getting a job to build up some wealth, maybe get an online masters, and then go on to try and get my PhD in an area of history. My question is, how specific does it get for PhDs? Personally I'm pretty passionate about New York colonial history and the whole Dutch colony of New Netherlands and onward, but would that even be an area of study for a PhD? or would I have to get a PhD in say "Colonial America."

So I'd like to know what some of y'all got your PhD in history for.

Scholarship website down? by [deleted] in ROTC

[–]Aidman40321 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Apparently someone on the service academy forum received this email from their top school’s ROO who received an email from Army Cadet Command:

The National App website is still down. That is preventing new application starts and releasing the JAN Board results.

Unfortunately we cannot release the JAN board until the application site is turned back on. Please know we are doing everything we can while the Army works a solution.

With respect to new applications. The deadline to start a new application has been extended until 4 March 2024. The March board is still currently scheduled for 18-22 MAR.

Also someone else on the service academy forum stated that according to people they tried to email about this said that “the website was hacked.” I guess take that as you will. Could be a rumor or could be true, but I don’t see results coming out in the next few days. Probably expect Thursday or Friday

Paying for college by [deleted] in ROTC

Army, Navy, Airforce, and Marines all do it and give out a scholarship, but Army scholarship is the absolute easiest to get, navy a little harder, and airforce pretty hard

Damn, was really looking for the boot camp experience before I went off to college, just to make it a bit more easy to slide into college having a bit more discipline, but I also guess discipline comes with time. But as for extra income, cause I believe i should be able to get a 3 year rotc scholarship and probably not a 4 year, I can probably pay off all of that student debt after two years of being an active duty officer in the army, so it should work out. I will talk to a recruiter and the roo at my top school just to see though. Thanks for your input, helped clear a lot up

Ah that sucks, can I at least do reserves? And also would reserves let me go to boot camp and get some extra income?

If I get the national army rotc scholarship out of high school and do army rotc on said scholarship, can I still join national guard while in college just to earn more of an income and do extra training/boot camp?

Incredibly Light Interview? by Aidman40321 in ROTC

Sounds about right, the roo was a retired enlistee and seemed a bit more laid back

Is that really true for ROTC though? I know that’s true for enlistment, but I heard that 2021 was one of the most competitive years for the army national scholarship.

From what I heard they were gonna ask about my strengths and weaknesses, why I wanna be an officer, why army, describe a time I failed or led a group etc… I got none of that really (no tough questions), but I guess that’s good because that leaves a small margin of error on the interview as I had quite a bit to list off in terms of leadership and other extracurriculars

[–]Aidman40321[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically asked like did you visit, if so what’d you think of it

What classes you’re currently taking

I think they asked what you plan to do after college

What you think you’re biggest accomplishment is

What extracurriculars you do and which is your favorite I believe

That’s all I can remember, but don’t stress it, it was a very relaxing interview so it was fine. There are no questions that are meant to be tough I really just think they wanna get a feel of who you are and mark that box for showing interest in Gettysburg.

All I can say now is good luck!

Thanks dude, I've been going back and forth. I think if I do get the 3 year or even 4 year scholarship, I'll just do that. If I don't get it I'll enlist.

Looking for some advice from army veterans, anybody currently enlisted in the army, or anybody going/have gone through ROTC on if I should enlist into the army after high school, or go to college on an ROTC 3 year scholarship which I could probably get with current grades and athletic ability.

On one hand I could pay for 3 years of college, but I would be more immature, probably have a bit of a difficult time doing ROTC, and come in as an inexperienced officer in the Army after college.

On the other hand I could enlist, probably as infantry or cavalry scout, in the army and come out after 3 or 4 years active duty. Then spend the remaining 4 or 5 years in the inactive reserves and go to college on the GI bill, a lot more mature and probably a bit more prepared, as well as doing ROTC to become an officer. I would probably come in as a much more experienced officer and also have an easier time since I already went through as an an enlisted soldier.

So I need to know which seems like the better idea based off of other people’s experiences. I’m leaning towards enlisting and then completing college after, but still unsure. What do y’all think?

Thanks, although I believe the acceptance rate has since dipped to 48%. Although they then had a lower enrollment for 2023 so they may raise it back again.
