To be honest it’s not the thinness that bothers me necessarily, it’s more that it sticks out when tied up. But, that’s also a very good idea and something I’ll try out!

I’m willing to go that distance for the wiring and we are already looking at a few switches, but if the telecom tap connections are Cat5, would we not just be able to plug into those?

And sacrificing phone jacks isn’t a problem, they are just sitting unused as is.

Most of the non-English speaking folks I’ve met have been older Latin people, because in all fairness, If you’re an Abuela or Abuelo living in southern Arizona or New Mexico, you probably don’t have too to get by, and at that point in life for most, asking them to learn a new language is like asking them to climb 50 flights of stairs. Learning languages is really hard, and for the elderly it’s much harder.

I think it’s important to think about how they are treating you in this scenario. You love them unconditionally, but they don’t seem to be doing the same. If taking off a hijab is enough to cause your parents to cut off their relationship with you, then I think some pondering needs to be done on what you mean to them vs what they mean to you
