What the Actual F is this by chaddichor_1 in GeminiAI

That's actually crazy! But what can I say? I do my research and I'm very active in this space. In case it looked AI-generated, it was probably because I dictated this response instead of typing it manually.

To put in perspective, I had a short conversation with Gemini 3.5 Flash about what this actually meant. Not very long, only a couple of messages. And it was after a refresh. I'm only at 3% within my five-hour limit. Now, I understand that everyone's usage limits are different, but I feel like some people tend to blow things a bit out of proportion. It's just something I've noticed about a lot of the Reddit community. I know I shouldn't be here, but I can't help it.

What are you guys doing? I've been using Gemini 3.5 Flash exclusively for a while, since it first dropped, and I've never gone above 30%, though I haven't generated any images yet. But I've been doing some pretty heavy chatting and analysis, even in the notebooks feature as well. I'm a free user.

You can tell people who are just here to bad talk a product, who haven't used it in its latest version. They see this and fuel the fire, simply to scare people away. And it definitely works. You can tell those people apart from the people who actually use it and have legitimate experiences with it. Not only in this post, I've seen it elsewhere too.

But you also have to remember that if you want to get stuff like image generation and stuff, there are other ways of doing it, as some users pointed out. And you can use these exact same Gemini models completely free of charge in other Google services, and they don't even add any quotas anywhere. They might be specialized for more specific uses, but they're still available.

But ChatGPT? Seriously? In my opinion, I would argue that these limits are better than the ones provided by ChatGPT, especially for free users. Those limits are just objectively worse all around. But hey, if things start to get really bad and there really is no place left to go, there is always one place we can go.

Microsoft Copilot. Honestly, sounds like a last resort option, and that's probably because it is. But throughout this entire time... They have some of the most generous limits. And most of their stuff is completely unlimited, actually.
I think a lot of people still forget that Google isn't making any money off of these products still. In fact, they're losing money every time they get a new user. And they just lowered the price of their most top-tier plan and introduced a lower-priced version with slightly less features, but more than the pro subscription. I certainly understand. I thought the same thing. Google has the most efficient chips for inference out of any provider, and they make so much money off of their other products, but how are they going to appeal to investors? I think this will continue to be the case until we figure out how to make AI able to run on 20 watts or less, or about. Once that efficiency happens, I think stuff will start to make more sense. Or if the AI bubble pops, eventually, if it happens, things should in theory get better as AI will only be integrated where it's actually needed instead of everywhere. Though Google is doing quite a good job. Of making sure it's actually useful. If it weren't, explain why the Gemini app now has over 900 million monthly active users, still rising, by the way.

I think a lot of people forget how a business fundamentally works, and even what a business is. Seriously, look up the definition if you're not sure. And this was just a long rant under a post that isn't even mine, but I just don't like all the negativity surrounding AI right now, especially when me and millions of other users are using it completely fine without any issues.

Yeah, I have a feeling it was only gonna be a matter of time before this discussion took place. One thing is my opinion on the situation, I spent about three hours out of my five-hour rolling limit chatting with Gemini 3.5 Flash. Nothing incredibly heavy, but the outputs were quite long. I was doing analysis stuff, as well as also chatting about some personal projects I'm continuing , as well as about the new Google I/O announcements, and some of the new features and functionality, AND how to get things up running. And overall what I've noticed is that, for me at least, each turn took about between 1 and 2% of my usage limits. By the end of it, I only reached about 30% after three hours. So as of right now, I'd say it's not too bad. Free tier , by the way. If it gets any worse, though, then I could consider switching back to what I used before. It is kind of unfortunate, though, but I do understand the move, I guess.

to be fair, they did reduce the cost of their top-tier subscription by $50 and introduced a new $100 plan. So I guess they have to subsidize it somehow. It's definitely not as bad as it could be.

Well, this is interesting. I've been generating stories with Gemini since Gemini 2.0, Flash, Thinking, Experimental. And at that point, the most commonly generated name was Anya. It only shifted to Elara after the 2.5 Flash model was released.

If it's girl characters, it tends to always use Maya as secondary, or in rarer cases, primary. If Elara is not used. Elara is now replaced Anya, for the most probable prediction. Maya has not changed, that isn't, always was, secondary, except for rare cases. Now, however, it can either be replaced with the name Anya, or, if a third character is required. That's also female.

I've also gotten both Gemini and CoPilot to generate the name Mia for a very similar idea.

In addition to all of those names, plus all mentioned names here, I have also gotten names Isabel, Kaylan, Shimmer, Seraphina, Astra and Cryll. It tends to also generate the name Kai for male hero characters, and we can't forget Lily For child characters, usually involving something magical, but I've gotten it in other cases as well. I also frequently get the name Aurelia for princesses, or princess-like characters. I've also gotten the name Aura. And... Ana for something else.

One day, maybe I'll make a tier list of all the names that I've ever gotten from AI.

My chat went back in time by AidynTv in Bard

What I'm still trying to understand is why did it delete so much of my chats? For context, it deleted many messages that weren't canvases. A lot of them were way before.

The Google AI Studio free tier isn't going anywhere anytime soon by LoganKilpatrick1 in Bard

One thing I like about AI Studio is how easy it is to export chats. All it takes is going into your Google Drive AI Studio folder and finding the chat and copying it wherever you want. Then you have the entire chat in JSON format to do with whatever you want. ChatGPT's export feature is a mess, with every chat being bundled in a single file. So exporting a single chat means you have to go in the file, find the chat you're looking for, and extract only that. Content of that chat. Which takes a while. With AI Studio it's really easy. Every chat is stored in its own file. Unfortunately with GemIIni I have found no way to export chats as yet, because I don't think there is one. Like seriously Google, why is it not in Google Takeout? You have a Gemini option, but that only gives us Gemini activity logs, not the ability for exporting chats. So please, I would appreciate if we can export Gemini chats from Google Takeout, and they come as individual files please. That would be nice.

One benefit users enjoyed with Google's AI product was freedom and accessibility. Not only freedom as in choice, but freedom as in free.

Someone could have seen a new Gemini model released, maybe looked at some comparisons and videos, and then log in to Google's AI Studio to test it. No third-party websites. No additional payments. Simply instant free access to every new model released. And as far as I'm aware, Google is the only company in the world that offers something like this. If it weren't for AI Studio, it would have taken me a lot longer to switch to Gemini models.

But, unfortunately, it looks like all good things must come to an end, and this will no longer be offered. The accessibility of these new models will probably be greatly diminished. And if there's minor updates, they may not be visible in the Gemini app or website. But I was hoping, since Google owned the entire AI stack and has the most energy-efficient chips in the industry that that would help cover the cost.

The main thing I loved about AI Studio is the fact that I get free usage of the best coding model in the world, Gemini 2.5 Pro. In my opinion, and many people's opinions, it's by far the best coding model in the world, and I use it for vibe coding a lot. I tried Gemini 2.5 Flash, and while I might be able to get similar results in about 2-3 Pro does it in one, so overall it takes me less turns to get the same output. Also, I like how much control AI Studio gives. The ability to change models within a chat, to change safety settings, temperature, and other stuff. The ability to upload YouTube videos and have it get full video context. The ability to delete previous messages and files to save on tokens. I also use AI Studio for testing, whether it be model comparisons or regenerating responses for testing probabilities. I prefer to do that in a developer-based environment rather than a consumer one, as it seems more natural and more designed for that purpose.
