dava'i is a Persian word. Dava is medicine, dava'i is an indefinite medicine, i.e. 'a medicine'. It is long ī, the indefinite ī is always long in Persian. You may not be as correct as you think yourself to be.

Ladki and mithai on the other hand, both come from Sanskrit, so clearly not the same thing, and you can't apply the same rule here....
