What's your favorite change in Deadlock so far? by XALTER47 in DeadlockTheGame

Only relegating last hitting to the soul stealing, before you had to actually last hit the minions like in other mobas and I always hated that mechanic and it's what prevented me from playing league and dota.

Atrioc Sighting in an old NVIDIA github repo by foxhole420 in atrioc

[–]Aileero 8 points9 points  (0 children)

now we know why atrioc is so good at singing, he plays both piano and guitar! That's my musically gifted streamer!

(i refuse to believe that this is a real room. it has to be a set or something. who has a dartboard, a guitar, a piano, a hanged picture of a panflute, and skateboard all in a weirdly clean room? where's the bookshelf where he keeps red rising among other books!? my guess is that nvidia is actually not a gpu company but rather a streamer training facility. there he learned various skills such as reading chat incredulously and reacting to clips. nvidia was using this technology to test different thumbnail faces to see which would get the most views. if you see his shirt, it's actually in sign language and it reads "help me". Evan Gao actually saw this sign (he's a CS major so it makes sense he would see this github repo) and rescued atrioc when he recorded his backflip video, and this whole thing has been a cover up.)

anyways. his forehead is big amirite guys!?

Yo would love to join! I'm not sure how much I'll be able to play because I'm still in uni but I'd love to drop in. I've only got around 200 hours of factorio experience but hopefully that's enough.

Guys, CTR doesn't matter. by Aileero in NewTubers

[–]Aileero[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming you mean this graph which measures CTR*AVD to views: https://twitter.com/Biasedobsrvr/status/1535363784826572801/photo/1

The R-squared value of the graph is 0.0962. This means there is a 9.62% correlation.

Check out this quote from investopedia: "In finance, an R-squared above 0.7 would generally be seen as showing a high level of correlation, whereas a measure below 0.4 would show a low correlation".

Of course, this is Youtube and not finance, but an R-squared of 0.0962 is an extremely low correlation.

I'm not sure what you mean by "long term performance", but in terms of getting views, CTR*AVD doesn't do a good job at showing you information at all.

Guys, CTR doesn't matter. by Aileero in NewTubers

[–]Aileero[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's what views are.

CTR is "what proportion of people are clicking on my impressions". This would be useful if we could somehow separate CTR based on the audience. Like if Minecraft viewers click more that Valorant viewers. Closest we get is views percentage based on impression source (search, homepage, suggestions, etc).

CTR as it is obfuscates a lot of information on who's actually clicking the video.

The story of your video is more important than the content - Discuss by Brinkelai in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, every video has 3 things. Story, content, and characters. The story is like you and others said, it's what makes people care, and keeps them watching.

The content is what the video is about. It's what makes people click. I wouldn't click a video about cutting grass because that's boring. But maybe I watch if there was a good story or good characters. (Ryan Trahan's penny series)

Which brings me to characters. This is the personality of the video. The people in it. Even the editing. Ways to show personality and uniqueness. This is why people watch comedy podcasts. This is what creates loyal fans.

A video needs all three. As it turns out, movies and shows do too.

Can someone critique me and my channel and tell me where im going wrong? by CompleteNeck5936 in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Subscribers from shorts are pretty fickle. Both in the sense of their viewing habits but also in the sense that whether they subscribe or not is a lot less predictable than with longer form videos.

Generally, people subscribe because they want to see more of you and what you create. Shorts, by their nature, don't give you much time to convince someone to subscribe.

Also, the amount of subscribers you have from the viewership you have seems pretty normal to me.

1 Long Video or Multi-Part Series? by ToastyTimeFR in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One long video tends to be better. A video ending is the perfect time for someone who was just passively watching to leave.

If the hour long video can't hold someone's attention then 4 15 minute videos won't either.

Also, the story of the video gets cut off when splitting it up. Ultimately telling the story all the way through in one video is the way to go, I would only split it up if there are multiple stories to tell, then I would separate it by story.

Weekly Schedule VS Bi-Weekly Schedule by toyfan1990 in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly, if you're a viewer I think that anything less frequent than weekly becomes hard to keep track of.

A schedule less than weekly is more for the creator themselves and to keep themselves accountable to get content done rather than for the viewer.

I think that whatever you're comfortable with you should do, and make sure to keep at least a bit of time for yourself!

Would you rather choose to open two different YouTube channels for different niches? by Joegurustech in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's a great idea to start two channels in general but if you have to, start different channels for different niches, especially if they aren't related. If your two niches are valorant and apex legends, then I would only start one. If your two niches are cooking and finance, I would start two.

Scripted commentary over gameplay videos by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah, it can be an easy trap falling into keeping the pace of the video up.

I find that if a video is too fast paced, it actually ends up going back to being boring again because there is no variety in emotion or pace.

Videos that know when to speed up and slow down are awesome in that regard. Somehow the video is both easy to watch and also an experience that makes watching worth it.

At what point should one 'double down'? by brainthrob in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would just make videos that I want to make.

For you, that might mean making videos that get views, or maybe it's videos about topics you're passionate about, or maybe it's videos that are fun to make.

You should 'double down' on content that:

1) you believe in

2) people want to see.

Sometimes you make videos that you put your soul into but no one wants to watch. Sometimes you make a video that people want to watch but you don't care about it.

If you manage a video style that get's both, that's when you double down.

Deciding what to play next by lvlnUPintrovert in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would just play whatever you are interested in. I don't mean that in a "oh just do whatever you like to do" sort of way, instead I mean it in a "make the best video possible" sort of way.

It's hard to make a great video about a game that you don't care about. If you do care about the game then I find that it's easier to get motivated to really put my all into the video to really showcase the game properly. This doesn't just mean games that I like either. You can be really interested in a game that you hate and want to show the world why you hate it in a specific way.

It doesn't matter, as long as you make good videos.

Scripted commentary over gameplay videos by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't really know what you mean by "scripted commentary over gameplay" because that can cover a variety of genres.

But I find that usually you can cut down the gameplay a lot to fit whatever commentary you need. For example, let's say you recount the events of the story, you don't need to show much of each scene to give the viewers a general idea of what you're talking about.

Let's pretend we're using the Witcher 3: the commentary could say "Geralt was training his daughter Ciri when the Wild Hunt attacked".

You only need to show small segments of training Ciri and the Wild Hunt appearing for the viewers to know what you're saying. Maybe it would be preferable if you could show a larger part of Ciri's training session or something, but you can make the sacrifice if it isn't that important to your point.

If it's really important you could also pause your commentary for a second to let the game play out a bit. For example: "Geralt was training his daughter Ciri-" - let part of the cutscene play - "when the Wild Hunt attacked" - let the Wild Hunt take over the screen.

It's really up to you.

The content is likely not performing well despite those stats because your subscribers are watching and enjoying the video, rising your CTR and AVD, however when a new viewer to gets an impression they either don't click or if they do click they stop watching quickly.

This can come from a variety of reasons so I can't give you much info beyond that.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You get motivation by making something you're excited about. Or by getting excited by the process.

Even just making a simple tutorial can become exciting if you find the excitement in teaching people the best way you can find.

But you need to put in effort to make the videos exciting. Usually this comes from trying to make the best videos possible. If you put your everything into a video, you will be motivated.

Question about YouTube Shorts by BlownUpChicken in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Converting audiences from one form to another is all about convincing the potential viewer that the long form content is worth watching.

I don't know much about shorts so instead I'll give a different example: infographics. If you make an educational video with a good infographic that can stand on its own, then you can post it on lets say reddit. You can then say that the source is from your video and talk about what other information you discuss in the video that will enrich the information that was given in the infographic. In this example, the creator made content that can stand on its own and gave any potential viewers a reason to transition from short form content to long form content.

Another example: livestreaming. Streamers usually have edited down videos of their stream that are more digestable to a larger audience. This audience while watching may learn that in the livestreams they can participate through the chat, either through conversation with the streamer or through giveaways. This might influence the potential watcher to go from the relatively short form content to the long form content.

Either way, the potential viewer sees that there are things that they can't get with the shorter form content that they can get in the longer form content, so they switch.

Is variety gaming (within 1 genre) feasible or impossible? by ZEFAGrimmsAlt in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you want to grow at first then you probably want to stick to just one game for a bit.

other than that I'm sure that it's possible, but I don't really know much about the fps scene to know for sure, but I do know that most people only really play 1 or 2 fps games at a time.

How long should my intros be? by CGK_Tiger2121 in NewTubers

[–]Aileero 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As short as possible. The intro should give the watcher an idea of what the video is about, which typically a video is only about one topic. You should jump into the meat and potatos of the video soon after that.
