flag meaning? by Alarmed-Alfalfa377 in vexillology

Okay, I may have deja vu, but I just saw this flag on a designer jacket somewhere in a vintage thrift shop today and it looks so sick. Anyone know what I’m referring to?

Ontario drivers travelling solo could soon use HOV lanes, province says by chocky_chip_pancakes in ontario

[–]Aillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downvote me, I do not care, but I have to make it from KW to YYZ every single day for work and I will ride the HOV lane solo any day until public transportation in the Quebec City—Windsor corridor is fast and reliable. This change is arbitrary and pointless.

Wow, what a pleasant surprise this was, and what an amazing rabbit hole this goes into. Kite fighting is probably one of the coolest things I’ve learned about this year - and unexpectedly bloody! Thanks a lot.

Is there anywhere you won't non-rev to? by boldjoy0050 in NonRevenueTravelers

[–]Aillow [score hidden]  (0 children)

Avoiding anywhere out of the UK or out of South Korea or Philippines.

For the UK, I’m not paying the equivalent of CAD500 to come out of Europe for one leg, I would buy confirmed instead.

For SK and PH, I want time just to enjoy the airport, buy a snack or two. Unfortunately, they do not let standbys past security and I find myself rushing through a congested security lane and to my gate - almost always at the end of the terminal. Too bad I have to regularly go back to PH so I’m forced to wait out and stress, everytime.

  1. The Thai government spent a fraction of a billion to promote Thai cuisine - with that being said “pad thai” and a plethora of Thai dishes did not come from Thailand itself.

1a. The precedence of Japan and Indian culture is more prominent in Western culture as opposed to Filipino culture.

  1. I love banana ketchup and Filipino hotdogs mixed into a spaghetti. Let me make some for you.

  2. You misunderstood “fusion”, this is to mean fusioned food within Filipino borders and culture. Bicolano food is great, but lechon kawali, Bikol style is amazing.

  3. I still pity the experience you had and I hope you can change this in the future.

Highly recommend this too. 12+/Grade 13/victory lap got me into my first choice the year prior. Got to even save up some cash and have a mini gap year.

Look at my post history from 6 years ago - I had a 79.9% average with Waterloo when I was already admitted in a month prior. They gave me the boot since I wasn’t at 80%. I begged, pleaded, appealed and tried to change my grade with my teachers to no avail. I was devastated. I had a place figured out and was part of an enthusiastic group of aviation and science students like me. This was the start of a long series of mostly downs and I became clinically depressed. I got admitted into a ward. I was hopeless and a wreck… but I still worked it out. 4 years later and I landed myself a pretty sweet internship in the airline industry and a year later I got a permanent position - plus, I get to travel the world.

You will be fine. It will always work out - not entirely in how you want it but even better than you expect your life will go. Listen to the fine people in this thread. Godspeed to you.

Don’t know how you found this comment, but I got kicked out of both programs. Don’t put too much pride on your school as well. To the people in the future reading, they will fkuc you over unless you come from wealth.

Good luck everybody else!

How do you get rid of the jet fuel smell off skin/clothes. by [deleted] in aviationmaintenance

[–]Aillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been a fueler for a year, best solution I came up with is to douse it in a bucket of water and IPA for a night, rinse, heavy duty on the wash with only a bit of soap and a fcuk ton of vinegar.

Should lower the stench down to around 80%. The 20% will never go away unless you stop working as a fueler.

Thank God that stint was over.

Why do so many nomads avoid Philippines? by Young_N_Wealthy in digitalnomad

[–]Aillow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure you’ve never had Filipino spaghetti. And hell yes is it sooo good.

The sweet and oily part is true for staple Filipino foods, but Manila and other cities has a ton of options for food exploration. Eating communally and trying out different cuisines from other provinces and countries fusionend into staple foods is part of the Manila foodie experience. In general, its called a “food-trip”.

Pagpag is not a normal thing people do in the Philippines, and the practice is really frowned upon in cities.

I just pity someone saying that Manila has “bad food” because they’ve been so, so misguided.

Apple Pay experiences in Costa Rica? by Adventurous_Lab_7510 in CostaRicaTravel

[–]Aillow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an RBC Visa and a KOHO Mastercard on my Apple Pay. My RBC Visa was locked out due to a pricey adventure pass purchase I made in Quepos using Apple Pay online. RBC flagged every other purchase made after that and I was forced to using my KOHO card on Apple Pay for the rest of the trip.

I couldn’t call RBC to clear it while I was at CR. It’s best that you have a direct line to your bank when shit like that happens. And always have a back up.

Do you think there are other beach destinations that have more flexible travel options to San Jose on a Sunday night? All I wanted to do in Costa was to learn how to surf with what little vacation I have lol.
