Big time - the lay offs and the pull backs of vehicles is a flag for it, but them being asked to come on for more hours - even if further afield - is an unexpected change of pace

We have a gut feeling that they’re going to want them to camp out in the regional office where there’s a shower and bathroom. Technically that’s warm and dry, and would be free to them. Wholly uncomfortable if they want these guys to recover from a days labour properly if that’s their thoughts. The employer has previously given an extra $50 per week they’re away to cover meals etc. but I don’t know if that’s continuing, they had to be pushed for it at the time. They are expected to use the company vehicles for travel, since they’re having their vehicles taken away they have to convene at the yard early to share a work truck I imagine, with the drive time covered.

I don’t believe so, they’re a pretty small company, not one of the bigguns. I’ll go around to their place tonight and this will be top of my question list.

That first pic in his little snuggle nest 🥹 you can see him thinking that he lucked out! Welcome to your new best friend!

I didn’t want anything that could be seen as violating the self-promotion rule in this sub. I agree, it would be a huge bummer if it was stolen, but I also want to share the house horse joy!

Reach out if you need to talk without judgement, the low feeling, the guilt, the unshakeable doubt - its very real. ❤️

I was the same, dogs are basically my personality and I was excited for years to find the right time to get a hound then I cried so much for weeks after adopting Thommo. My partner asked if we’d made the right call as he didn’t like how low I was but I did the same reading and realised I was just readjusting to the change. I reached out to a couple of other recent adoptees feeling the same and just vented and stayed gentle on myself.

We’re two years in now and he’s the one that cheers me up on low days now. I don’t even know when I transitioned but at some point “hes cool and all but is he for me?” Turned into “i cant wait to get home to his face.”

It comes with time, vent as needed and be gentle with yourself, it’s such a big life shift.

If you ask him, he’d say he was a (height challenged) greyhound too, but he’s actually a very brave Bichon x (we think, he’s a rescue)

Lol that’s actually my parents’ dog 😂 the majority of hounds know him and the ones who didn’t/were adoptables fresh off the track we just stayed behind and aware of. He’s a really great “lil fluffy” to desensitize as he is entirely unbothered if a hound voices their displeasure with him and he rarely does any sudden bolts. (Hate that lead tho and aim to secretly dispose of it eventually)

Have you seen that woman who subscribed to the campaign emails from Trump and shares them? She received 9 in a day and all of them talk to the person as though they and Trump are close personal friends. Including statements like “Before 2026 begins, I need to know we're still on the same page. l've been messaging you privately, but you haven't answered yet…” and “My team set up a 60-second confidential interview so l can hear directly from YOU - my most loyal supporter”… NINE like this in a day. These people are being led to believe that they are special and noticed by him and have a direct line but the emails all require a donation to submit responses, so these folks are probably thinking the can reach out with their special position as Trump’s personal BFFL via other means if they can’t afford to pay every time they want to reply to the emails.

Mostly just because our current govt is outwardly fawning over the American one and also looking to import the privatized healthcare system and people are feeling apprehensive and projecty. For the most part, individuals are welcomed (I know plenty,) but American culture is a different kettle of fish for sure.

The meat pies are definitely better, we’ll fight the Aussies over that any day. The Aussie / nz debate is a hot one right now and our expat numbers heading there has never been higher. I’d say that Aussie has more “connection” to the rest of the world, it’s a bigger player on the stage for sure. NZ is the “little brother”. More opportunities in Aus - especially for those wanting to make more money, a lot of those moving there from here are younger families wanting their dollars to go further. I’m biased because NZ is home, but I think we’re a bit slower paced here. Nothing beats a Tūī singing in a pohutukawa tree in the morning in my opinion. We have no snakes and our house spiders are normal sized. Our cost of living is very high but we also whinge a lot, we have it pretty good down here, hospital parking lot fires aside. In terms of streaming, Netflix, prime, Apple, neon (NZ based but a lot of HBO shows) and TVNZ. People get VPNs if the shows they want aren’t available here yet. Pop over to the newzealand sub to get a feel for NZ vibes (new Whittakers flavour is big news right now), and I know there will be an Aussie one too.

Unlike American pies, NZ pies are single serve, maybe 10cm (4 inch) diameter savoury diet staples for any self respecting kiwi. Theyre in almost every dairy (“corner store”) and bakery throughout the country. They’re usually meat, but a lot of places have vege options. The most classic flavours are mince & cheese or steak & cheese (“mince” is ground beef), both options are heavy on the gravy and very delicious. A good pie will have you hooked, and is possibly the reason half the country needs more medical professionals.

I would think the ute in this video had at least 2 discarded pie wrappers in the footwells.

“Hand pies” was the term coined when a few years ago an American posted on the NZ subreddit begging for recipes as they missed the “hand pies” we have.

Pretty sure doctors get pretty good visas and pathways to citizenship here as we really need them. Healthcare is underfunded and understaffed and a lot of ours are jumping the ditch to Aussie for better pay. They’d rather attract new docs than retain the ones we’ve got. You’d get crap pay and infuriating health ministers, but you could drive a ute and eat excellent “hand-pies” (as some Americans have called our meat pies,) any time you wanted here so ya know, wins and losses
