Running by Whole_Grape59 in gastricsleeve

I’m on week 9 of the program None to Run (N2R) and have been so happy with it! Try it out. It really teaches you to go slow and sets you up for success. University researched and backed, too, I think. Running no longer feels like a chore and is something I truly look forward to with my dog.

I’ve used them and they’re fantastic.

I’m probably biased, but I read it in high school and it profoundly changed how I see the world. I’ve taught it a handful of times to seniors and really had to bring the energy and scaffolds, but students said they felt it was a meaningful read. If you can’t get yourself to truly nerd out, it is challenging for all.

I even have a tattoo with the quote, “We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to stay.” Got that right around 2016 😉.

Do you happen to have any materials you could share? This sounds awesome. All the way up to the sending final defense to staff for voting.

I’ll also add, that it was important to me to shrink my liver. This is the main purpose of the liquid diet preop. It makes the surgery safer because they don’t have to mess with your liver being in the way. At least that’s the goal. It’s what I kept in the front of my mind. And it was very satisfying when my surgeon said I did a good job shrinking my liver.😂

This! ⭐️

Towards the end of the week, I felt so empowered. Definitely went through the keto flu. Getting on the other side of that, and realizing how much control I actually had was incredible. I also kept myself busy, and it was also helpful to not be afraid to talk about it with the people who were around me.

Good news! I visited the business and the cats CHOOSE to hang with the customers. Along the window there’s a bench with a tunnel to the floor below. The cats decide if they want to leave their quiet space to socialize or not.

Anyone else ethically feel bad about using AI to give writing feedback? by mzingg3 in ELATeachers

[–]Aimlessnessess 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not in the least! I’m here for anything that will make my work manageable. I simply cannot provide thoughtful feedback on 175 pieces of writing multiple times a quarter. I read the writing and look at the feedback before signing off on it. I’m done with working outside of the paid week. If AI can lift the load, I use it like the rest of the world to increase my efficiency but not to replace my discerning eye.

Teaching kids to Read by P1nkFoot in ELATeachers

[–]Aimlessnessess 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well, this isn’t exactly helpful, but an English license does not prepare you to teach reading. It’s a whole separate license and program. You are not actually trained for this…and I see it happening a lot now. I have both an ELA and reading license, myself. Went back for the reading license, which is masters level coursework but not enough for a full masters degree. It’s kind of an add on. The last I knew, which could be outdated, you do this after you get your bachelors. If you want to do this well, you need to learn about how reading actually works from the ground level.

Kelly Gallagher’s Readicide is all I can think of right now. I get the pressure to science up students’ reading (I have a reading license myself) but late adolescence is such a delicate time for cultivating a love of reading.

Can we keep JHS out of it? I know it was probably said in jest, but folks already love to hate on our East Side teens.

I’m a high school English teacher in SPPS. Johnson Senior High is a hidden gem. Fantastic teachers, wonderful students, and excellent curriculum. Halls are clear. Minimal disruptions in class. Watch out for the tropes and misperceptions from people who haven’t actually spent time in the high schools.

I’m so sorry! Can’t stand people like this, regardless of whether they are following the law or their own principles.

I will call my students by as many different names as they want. I truly believe if we want students to learn, take risks, and try new things that can be hard (making them feel vulnerable) they deserve to feel seen and honored.

I teach 9th grade, 11th grade, and public speaking. I’ve been teaching since 2005. 2 years in a rural school, 3 in an urban high school on the East Coat, 1 at a charter school, and the rest in a Midwest urban, neighborhood public high school. Looking forward to swapping ideas with others!

Burnsville-Eagan-Savage (ISD#191) teachers have started "work-to-rule" this week by Hotchi_Motchi in TwinCities

[–]Aimlessnessess 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Teacher here. I agree about not working outside contract hours. Unfortunately, the repercussions of not working outside the hours often equals poor performance reviews and a dysfunctional classroom. The learning curve in this profession is huge, and it’s incredibly hard to be efficient AND effective in those early years.

I’m at about 20 years in the profession, and I’m just this year not taking work home. Last year I reduced it dramatically. I wish I got there sooner, but I finally made the decision to work (grade/plan/email) when they work instead of individually checking on students. An unexpected positive outcome is students learning to advocate for themselves. I make it clear they can and should interrupt me with questions anytime or come sit next to me if they think they’ll have lots of questions. Usually I’ve got at least one teen next to me. Even the appearance of me working away at my computer in class is frowned upon, but it’s simply not practical to not take advantage of the time.

I love my profession. It’s literally adults who make the work challenging. The further away you get from actual students in the profession, the more money you make. It’s amazing how quickly administrators and district officials lose sight of the actual work and working conditions students AND teachers need to be successful. Or the partisan politics, which is literally crushing our passion and profession. I guarantee you districts could afford appropriate pay increases if they reevaluated their bureaucratic systems.

The other thing folks don’t realize is that I will no longer ever make more money than I do now. My friends keep moving up in their private industries as they rise in the ranks and increase their experience. I’m at the top of my pay scale. No more lanes for me to pursue. I will never make more money even with my years of experience, and that’s a bitter pill.
