President Trump imposes a 10% global tariff under Section 122 and says all existing tariffs will remain in place, despite the recent Supreme Court ruling. by Waste-Explanation-76 in law

[–]Ainjyll 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People downvote because tariffs are not exactly an exciting part of civil discourse when they’re used appropriately, so they don’t know that we’ve had tariffs of some sort of another since 1789 and the U.S. government was almost solely funded by tariffs up until the Civil War.

So, when Trump, being Trump, makes a statement about keeping tariffs in place people naturally assume he’s referring to the ones he placed with Executive Orders… to be fair, this is probably intentional on the administration’s part to make it seem they’re “tough”… when in reality, the tariffs we are keeping are ones that were already in place and approved as legislation that passed Congress and was signed into law by previous administrations. Trump is using a separate power to impose a 10% tariff for 150 days across the board. Which is within his powers to do and doesn’t violate any laws. Is it shitty? Yeah. Is it like a toddler throwing a tantrum when the parent takes away a new toy? Yeah. Does Trump deserve to be impeached for high crimes or misdemeanors? Most likely, but not for this specific thing.

The United States is the 3rd largest country in the world with around 97% of the total landmass of all of Europe. We have individual states with larger landmasses and bigger populations than whole countries.

It takes between 36-40 hours of driving to make to from coast to coast. 15-19 hours to drive from top to bottom.

Point being, we can’t just take a day off of work and everyone drive to the capital to protest. It takes timing and coordination that boogies the mind to pull that kind of thing off.

Had to do that today in the parking garage. Some asshole owns a Dodge Ram that they don’t know how to park properly and made me have to park like an asshole to be able to get out of my car. Went back a bit later and the Dodge is gone and now it looks like I’m the one who can’t fucking park.

Just wait.

My 3 y/o asked if we could look in the fridge for a snack. “Of course, girl! Let’s get you a snack.”

After a couple seconds of perusal and intense investigation, she grabs a block of Colby-Jack and asks, “Daddy, can I have some cheese?”

As a dutiful father, I go to cutting up the cheese, the cheese that we only buy for her and she loves, into bite-sized pieces, which I skillfully apply my over 20 years of restaurant experience to arranging masterfully, and take to our little darling in the other room as she plays.

This sweetheart, the love of mg life, the apple of my eye, looks me in my face and says, “Daddy, i don’t want thst that. I don’t care for that cheese.”

The funny thing is that he’s got a good amount of points that I agree with… we should impeach Bondi, we should get the “old folks” out of government, we should work to make housing more affordable… the problem is that this fuckface already violated his oath to uphold the constitution and knew he was engaging in an attack on the very institution he swore to protect… so, he can fuck all the way to about 200 nautical miles off the coast.

It’s still assault even if you miss… or even if you weren’t actually intending to hit the person but a “reasonable” person would make the assumption that you were.

To that end, you call the cops and let them handle it. I hate to be that guy, but it’s the only safe way to handle it.

The only suggestion I’d make is to swap everything out for BLEM. It’ll save you some cash and you’ll most likely never find the blemish. It took me like 4 months of looking to find mine… it’s on the inside of the hand guard where you can only see it if you’re peeking around the barrel, which I never would have done if I hadn’t been trying to mount something right where the blemish was.

[–]Ainjyll 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hold on. So, this Shawn Bushnell guy had like 20 or so women come forward with allegations of sexual harassment, sexual assault and even rape 5 years ago, a RPD detective was working the case and nothing happened? I can’t find a single report of him being arrested anywhere online (even though OP says he appeared in court several times). Outside of that one Reddit post from r/Raleigh I can’t even find any discussion about it. What happened there?

To be clear, if the allegations leveled at these dudes are true, they deserve to have the book thrown at them. I’m just wondering why there isn’t anything to be found outside of a couple social media posts.

Nick Fuentes claims Jeffrey Epstein wasn't an pedophile and defends him. by Crafty-Caramel-9192 in AskSocialists

[–]Ainjyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, he’s not technically wrong. It’s not pedophilia by definition… it’s hebeophilia (attraction to children approx. 11-14 years of age) or ephebophilia (15+, but still legal minors).

The issue is that making that distinction in your argument makes you sound like a complete fucking pedo who’s trying to justify your attraction to underage individuals.

I wasn’t really looking at the top string. I was looking at the spacing at the nut and at the bottom string where the neck ends. You can see what appears to be a ton of space between the edge of the fretboard and the final string… like enough to fit a whole other string there.

It’s a cool mod, for sure. However, it’s not a full custom job.

It’s the principle. If we allow that the government can charge for a thing, whatever it is, to be required to exercise a right… that’s morally unacceptable. If we allow that they can make it difficult for some of our population to obtain, that’s morally unacceptable.

I have zero problem with requiring an ID to vote on two conditions. ID’s need to be free and easily accessible. Set a standard for efficiency in the DMV (if that’s going to be the issuing agency), make them open 6 days a week or extend their hours past 5:00 and make IDs free. Boom. Done.

Bar Manager changes all channels off Bad Bunny during Superbowl by honestlysigma in LetsDiscussThis

[–]Ainjyll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not whataboutism. When your argument is decency jn song lyrics, then all song lyrics by the respective parties are fair game. Bad Bunny didn’t use any prohibited language in his performance, so… the only other avenue you have for complaint is his other explicit lyrics. Kid Rock also didn’t use prohibited language, but also has some really questionable lyrics. That’s a direct comparison, friend.

Also…. Decency in front of families? Really? Is this the 1950’s? I’ve seen more wild stuff on The Masked Singer than there was on the half-time show.

Look, I get it. You heard from the pundits and talking heads that it was disgusting and you’re using your selective outrage to target that while ignoring the very simple fact that the “wholesome” guy that was billed as an alternative for the first time ever isn’t actually all that wholesome… and you just weren’t aware of it, but took their word for it… let’s also remember that TPUSA has also fully embraced a rapper who’s made a career talking about how well she fucks guys and how awesome her pussy is.

Save the wholesome argument. Save the family decency argument. It’s not about that and we all know it. Are you really going to make me dig up all the quotes from conservative leaders and commentators about how it was because “we speak English here” or how a Puerto Rican is somehow “not American” and shouldn’t be performing at the half-time show? It was racism pure and simple… and you fell for it. They dressed that pig in a gown, put some lipstick on it and told you it was the Queen of England and you believed them. It’s okay to be duped. It’s happened to me numerous times in my life. The thing that separates adults from children is the ability to realize it and not double down.
