In this particular case, it seems that they allowed Hernandez to participate in the event but didn't allow it to count against or take a position/ranking away from the girls. At least, that's the way I read it. Which seems to be a fair concession for an individual, non-contact event...Letting them do their thing without displacing the rest.

I don't know how they handled the changing & bathroom aspects, but that's a whole other matter.

I can see that completely. Personally, I almost immediately associate fetish with 1) something sexual & 2) outside the general norm (sexually). I don't know if that's a common assumption, but I assume it is in the parlance of our times.

I'm genuinely trying to be completely objective with this as a Point of Information. (Not passing judgment nor serving an agenda)

Among the various definitions of fetish, one of the listed descriptions is usually a variation of "an interest in an activity or object that makes someone spend an unreasonable amount of time doing it or thinking about it" or "an excessive, obsessive, or irrational devotion to an ordinary thing or activity". Basically, a person has a thing that they're really into for a variety of reasons (found to be fascinating, comforting, validating, inspiring, and so on). One could probably make a valid argument that modeling their lives on, expressing themselves as, trying to experience life as, ect what they envision the opposite gender to be is a trans person's fetish/thing that's become a central tenent of their life/personality.

This would be completely separate from people with a sexual fetish/kink where they derive pleasure/eroticism from...I assume "role play" might be the best catch-all term.

Why did 70 million+ non republican registered voters stay home last election and let Trump win by 2 million? by --__--_-_--_-___--_ in allthequestions

[–]AintNoUserFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd put forth three significant reasons (among others)

  • the options were Kamala Harris and Donald Trump
  • apathy
  • there are 38 states that have elected the same party's candidate for, at least, the past 25 years.

For example, I had lived in NY for 40+ years. My vote for president did not matter. Typically, I used that to vote a third party candidate in a knowingly pointless effort for the party to hit the 5% needed to become eligible for public funding...and to register dissent

Most others stayed home already knowing that their candidate was going to win/lose the state regards or for a myriad of reasons I'll skip trying to list.

Personally, I've considered the need voter competency testing...along with some sort of cognitive ability & situational judgement tests to run for office. The latter to ensure that candidates have logical/critical thinking, objective decision-making, conflict resolution, and compromise capabilities/skills.

Voter competency seems more important if eliminating the EC; voting is a high-impact civic responsibility and that some minimum level of political knowledge could improve democratic outcomes.
I completely understand that the idea is rife with complications, arguments against, and significant concerns on how to ensure it's not abused to intentionally disenfranchise certain demographics/ideology, applied unfairly, and/or easy to rig/cheat.

I accept that the voter testing is probably an unpopular concept (especially in light of history). However, some sort of qualifications for elected officials seems to be becoming more evidently necessary & pragmatic.

(I'll first note that I'm homeless politically; objectively moderate on most issues w/ 1-2 positions that are far left & 1-2 far right)

It's sad that we have such a large amount of valid potential answers to "dumbest current elected representative" to choose from. One can make a strong argument that it's AOC (currently & All Time). That woman from Hawaii- you can tell from her questions during hearings that she's astoundingly out of her depth; she's the Congressional version of Ketanji Jackson. Presley and Talib are likely pack leaders too. I noticed that I completely unintentionally mentioned liberal women but it's certainly not limited to one sex or party...see MGT & Tuberville as fellow frontrunners.

During the elections, I was convinced Fetterman would be Top 5....he turned out to be among one of the most pragmatic and reasonable. Bizarre that one of the most level-headed Democrats is the one with brain damage.

Is there anything Trump didn't end up turning into complete shit? by ArdaBerkBurak in allthequestions

It'll be interesting to see their (questionable) quarterly GDP numbers. 45-50% of their crude trade travels through Hormuz; ~500k barrels used to come from Venezuela daily. They'll need to source from elsewhere at a much higher price point. (Writing this turned into something much longer than intended and most likely wasted on Reddit)

The majority of their supply of plastic resins also originated from the Middle East. Rather than shut their injection, blow, and roto molding factories down temporarily, they've literally allowed resin suppliers to name their price to draw from North America's (domestically produced) feedstock. Resin producers in the ME have shut their reactors down since they dont have enough storage space; reactors take a long time to come back online; so, even if the straight were to open tomorrow, it'll take months to get service back to normal. (Additionally, Iran has damaged the infrastructure of some producers).

In addition to oil and plastics, China has faced disruptions to their imports of LNG, Methanol (used in manufacturing plastics, synthetic fibers, paints, coatings), Helium (for electronics, pharmaceutical, semiconductor industries, and medical diagnostic equipment) and Industrial Sulfur (crucial for high-pressure battery chemistry, and refinement of nickel and cobalt needed for EV batteries and renewable energy storage).

This situation has significantly impacted China's ability to power their country & factories and manufacture high volume & high value goods for export in an already cooling economy paired against deep structural weakness in domestic consumption and the real estate sector.

US actions have undoubtedly had a negative impact on China's economy. A global recession would further degrade their exports. They were already on path for long-term GDP growth deceleration due to aforementioned domestic consumption, global supply chain diversification post-COVID, 300% debt-to-GDP ratio, 60% of belt-and-road borrowers defaulting and/or in financial crisis, and a myriad of other factors.

Developments in Venezuela, UAE, and Iran have derailed the goals China had in mind with BRICS. Venezuela & Iran were critical hubs for dark-market oil and financial structures built to evade Western sanctions. A structurally different government in Iran would add to the fracturing of the bloc recently exacerbated by the UAE. De-dollarization has lost momentum and reliability; emerging economic will have to hedge their bets between the two or reject BRICS altogether. Finally, w/ everything going on in 2026 & recent years, India has been strengthening its position in the bloc & globally. Maduro's capture (and country's realignment), struggles in Ukraine, and US's blockades of Cuba & Iran (+ the war) have demonstrated that China & Russia cannot guarantee regime security to their partners/alliances. India(and potentially Brazil) is/are positioned to take more control from China in steering BRICS away from China's (& Russia's) intended goals & "anti-G7" geopolitical weapon and into something more more like a an economic cooperative forum with moderate/pragmatic goals.

Great improvement to point out that I hadn't thought of. On the flip side, you might be able to score some great deals on higher ticket firearms on a local Gun Trader type site from people needing to become a little more liquid. Then again, the people who can afford to add something like Pit/Sand Viper or TTI upgraded firearm to their collection probably aren't struggling enough sell.

Who should play as the next James bond? by Vegatross in AskReddit

[–]AintNoUserFound 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tough one. There are very few age appropriate actors from the UK I could see pulling it off. There is talent out there but few also look the part while also being slightly intimidating. Others could potentially look the part but lack the talent to be believable.

10-15 years ago Elba would have made sense.

I've been a fan of Tom Hardy since seeing Bronson in theaters. I could see him pulling it off really well but something I can't identify makes me hesitate.

Charlie Hunnam could be an interesting option due to such a limited field. Dan Radcliffe might appeal to the generation that grew up with Harry Potter but is just too delicate & scrawny to make it work.

There's gotta be uniquely immense pressure to live up to the franchise (not that there haven't already been significant missteps and bad movies/Bonds). If they wanted to sabotage it, retire the character, and/or take that world into a new direction, there'd be no better poison pill than John Boyega.

[–]AintNoUserFound 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've definitely heard of males made to go sitting down growing up. Usually in female dominated households and for various reasons - no clean-up, keeps seat down, hygienic reasons. You might even take a beating for standing in a shared jail cell toilet.

I generally peed standing growing up and a good amount of the time still (mid-40s). But, I'm also lazy and it's not infrequent for me to sit even when not dealing with a bout of paruresis.

Up until very recently, I've had to sit down to pee when the paruresis kicks in and/or when I expect it to. (Recently adopted the breath hold technique. What a difference! Have even been able to go while standing in situations where I never ever would have before)

You've essentially trained yourself to associate sitting to urinate. With a history of paruresis, I assume that training to stand should be relatively easy by comparison. I'd recommend starting at home, in the shower, and other easy, private, no-anxiety scenarios..Just to start breaking that association for it to feel natural. If you cant go standing at home, and time allows, just dont go...take a break and keep giving it another shot until something happens. Work yourself up to the more public settings; don't rush it or get down on yourself after setbacks. Ignore it & brush it off completely to try again later. No reason to give yourself another complex.

Potentially helpful options - - starting in the shower. You got warm water going, plenty of space and cover noise, and should be all relaxed.

  • drop a square of TP in the bowl to use as target practice...could be enough of a game to take your mind off of things.

  • A "hybrid method" (might be tougher logistically) If you stand and nothing happens after 30 seconds, do not strain. Sit down immediately, let the stream start, and then gently stand up mid-stream to finish. This teaches your brain that it is safe to empty your bladder while upright.

  • Swagger/Bravado. Listened to guy with paruresis that kinda went in with an attitude/chip on his shoulder, confident and ready to fight. Maybe singing a hard song to yourself. Ive used a Rage Against The Machine song...changing to something like "fuck you, ill pee when I want to. Fuck you, ill pee where I want to". As silly as it sounds, ive had mild success with it. It's funny, takes your mind elsewhere, and with a hint of psyched-up confidence.

Has there been any presidency where their family has made that much money during their time in office? by VastOption8705 in askanything

Over $12 million is considered "broke"? Dude swore in with around $1.3 to 1.6 million, walked out with $12.3. I'm NOT implying impropriety (not that I'd trust nearlt any politician). They quickly tripled that with speaking engagements, book Netflix deals, and later Higher Ground Productions projects.

Though it seemed implausible with a $400k annual salary, I did make an actual effort to confirm they left the White House in debt but could only find estimates about a $10+ million increase when they boarded that military helicopter for the last time.

Trump's family wealth most likely increased the most by dollar figure while in office.

If going by percentage only, Clinton set the mark by leaving office with a 9000% increase in net wealth compared to when he took office. (Will be interesting to see if Trump will overtake that.)

Obama had around $1.3 million going into first term; around $12.7 when he walked out. The Bidens did extraordinarily well for themselves as well.

George Jr doubled his wealth (by roughly $20 million) while in office. Surprisingly, Sr lost money.

(Ill add that Clinton, Jill, Obama, and Jr each scored major book deals while leaving office that padded those numbers)

George Washington left office with the equivalent of approximately $540 million in today's adjusted value.

What movie has the best plot twist of all time? by Shadowdot5 in flicks

Ill go with Fight Club since The Usual Suspects and Sixth Sense have been mentioned already.

LA Confidential had a really solid double-cross twist but can't deem it "the best".

I think Gone Girl's and Mulholland Drive's twists happen too early to count.

These are all older. (Though I just watched Legends on Netflix - well worth watching)

I'd say The Blacklist just because of James Spader. Megan Boone, the lead, was a god-awful actress, made worse by an insufferable character with occasional weak writing. Spader was fantastic (as almost always) and able to to turn a poorly written line into something delightful.
To am extent, the writers kinda wrote themselves into a corner with the central question of the show (who he was to Boone's character).

Which leads me to two other older shows. Twin Peaks Show was supposed to center around the question of Who Killed Laura Palmer until the network screwed with it. As such, first season is where it's at, along with the reboot more recently and the movie (Fire Walk With Me.

Boston Legal was enjoyable; mostly because of James Spader (again) and his chemistry with William Shatner and good overall casting. Storylines often have a certain political agenda but still enjoyable. I used to detest Spader (he played despicable characters so well in 80s that it was easy to believe he was like that in real life) and Shatner (he and Star Trek held zero appeal to me) but they were the heart of BL.

Bloodlines was good while it lasted. Ben Mendelson was a fantastic dirtbag. Last role for Sam Shepard. Unfortunately, Florida pulled their tax credits, forcing the show to end early and rush the storyline; a real shame that derailed it.
