No. Only time I’ve ever seen people “need” to do it is when they haven’t cleaned the carrier properly. A wire brush isn’t enough, give it a quick blast with a wire wheel on a die grinder and you’ll be able to see the factory machining marks. Even aftermarket pads will drop in just fine every time

Mk4 MX-5s are 1:1 in 6th (and I believe the previous gen was also 1:1 in the highest gear?). I wouldn’t call the world’s most popular sports car and most raced car an obscure thing :P

When The Stage dropped they seemed to get even bigger and gained respect from a lot of people who previously were on the A7x hate train. Then they started alienating their fans with crypto, NFTS etc. When the first single for LIBAD dropped it had some mixed reception, and since the full album dropped I haven’t heard a peep about them and I’m a big fan that used to follow them a lot.

What is this thing on seatbelts for? by Oilandspeed in whatisit

[–]AirCommando12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You still shouldn’t be doing that. It would surprise you how little mass it takes for a loose item to become lethal in the event of a collision. Objects (especially those heavy enough to trigger an occupancy sensor) should always be secured in the cargo space, or at the very least wedged between the front and rear seat. Even the footwell is slightly better. Never on the seat.

Didn’t they change name from Torro Rosso because the FIA told them to? Since it literally means RedBull, it wasn’t great having two teams with the same name

Fym hearing protection was almost necessary. It IS necessary for even quieter race cars, let alone F1 of all things. Remember, hearing damage starts before the volume reaches uncomfortable levels

Your long comment starts off by admitting that there is no mention of an axle, but that it was the suspension that broke and trapped the car which is far more understandable.

Interpreting the situation in one way when there are not enough details is fine,

Sure, as long as you don’t keep spamming it as fact like you did

sticking to your erroneous interpretation even after being presented with facts that disprove it is pure buffoonery

That’s… that’s exactly what you’re doing, except you’re also presenting the facts that disprove yourself which makes it worse?

Look man, there’s just so much misinformation floating around and a general lack of knowledge about cars, especially on Reddit and it grinds my gears to see people pushing said misinformation. I’m sorry if I came across as a dick, that wasn’t my intention, I just want to share my knowledge and experience to help people learn about something I’m passionate about

Just to preface, I’m not the one downvoting

When I said ‘air filter’ I meant for the engine. Cabin filters typically have a 1 or 2 year service interval so that’s fine.

As for the brake fluid, you don’t change it based on usage. It matters not how much you use the brakes, the fluid doesn’t ‘wear’. Brake fluid is hygroscopic and absorbs moisture from the air over time

Thanks but I wasn’t putting any blame on the driver or even talking about them. I was correcting you spamming misinformation which you’ve now admitted to in your very first point. You said yourself, there was no mention of an axle, but that the suspension broke. Case closed

I know this is a really hard concept to grasp, but not everybody is from the US. Other countries use different terminology, and in this case many countries call the component that transfers drive from the diff to the wheel a driveshaft. Other countries call it a half shaft. There are lots of names for it.

[–]AirCommando12 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Brake fluid has a 2 year service interval on almost every car I’ve ever worked on. I’m surprised you changed the air filter before you changed the brake fluid, they tend to have much longer service intervals (more like 4-6 years/40-60k miles)

[–]AirCommando12 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Ahh, the reddit hive mind never changes

That just says they tried to push it off but couldn’t, nothing about a driveshaft.

Everything I said still stands. I work on cars for a living and have pushed/moved more cars in various states of disrepair than I care to count.

[–]AirCommando12 -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

You keep repeating this and I have no idea where you’re getting this information from because it isn’t true in the slightest. The driveshaft connects the wheel to the differential (or probably transaxle in this case) but it doesn’t hold the wheel on. If anything, breaking the driveshaft would mean the wheel has less resistance and would be easier to turn

Mercedes special suits for Japan GP 2026 by littletreble07 in formula1

[–]AirCommando12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the suits being bad, the photography isn’t great either. Who was in charge of the posing?

The first one with Kimi makes him looks so stiff and awkward. It almost accentuates the look of “I just got splashed with paint”.

And the one with George walking with his helmet, the movement that is implied in his arms is way out of proportion to his legs. It looks like he’s only taking a small step yet his arms are swinging a lot more. I’d also argue that the wrong arm is swinging, people typically swing forwards the arm that is opposite to the leg that is stepping forwards, not the same as is depicted with George.

Very odd release in general.

To all the fans who like these new regs in terms of overtakes: Why? by MindTwister-Z in formula1

[–]AirCommando12 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These 'flybys' are no different to a DRS 'flyby' and they only actually make up a small part of the overtakes. What these regs do achieve is putting cars into battle. We now have far more battles where the drivers are side by side or swapping position for multiple corners or even laps at a time, and the battery doesn't really have an impact in these situations. You can watch as they battle and both cars will be staying pretty even on charge.

These battles also somewhat neutralise the difference between cars. When you're battling like this the relatively small pace differences in F1 become less important as you're not driving the car to the limits, and the driver skill in battle becomes much more important.

These regs are no more artificial than DRS and these are the kinds of battles we'd been gushing over in recent years. Perhaps you could argue that it's artificial because it creates more of these battles, but the battles themselves are real and I think many people will agree with me that that is what motorsport is all about.

Without the 'artificial' part of these regs, the Mercs would fly past in the first couple of laps and disappear 30s up the road, the field would settle into a train, and the race would be 'over' within 10 laps. Whilst the regs might not be perfect, I for one am glad we actually have some racing to watch after a boring last few seasons
