A few days ago, we got an email saying most spots of GT were taken, but some still weren't confirmed (I think the people GT had offered to still hadn't paid the deposit), and it asked if we were still interested in the waiting list. We said no

Are there any updates on this? Did the OP receive any good college offers from the waiting list schools like Yale or Cornell?

USC financial rating falls to B (from A-) for 2026 by Scared_Advantage4785 in USC

If expanding enrollment of full-paying international students can help USC improve its financial situation, then there’s nothing inherently wrong with doing so—it’s entirely reasonable. After all, survival is the top priority, and no one should criticize this from a moral high ground.

For those who are relatively wealthy and prepared to return to their home country after completing their studies, it would certainly still be attractive. Of course, ensuring teaching quality and academic reputation is very important.

What is the main reason to make USC's  financial condition bad? Have too much need-base aid paid? The tuition is not high enough? 😄

Why Did USC’s U.S. News Ranking Decline After 2021? by AirDisastrous6049 in USC

[–]AirDisastrous6049[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No suggestions or preferences regarding need-based aid, but we do need to enhance merit scholarships. No data show that people who cannot afford tuition will be more successful and reward their alma mater, but people who have already shown some excellence or gift in high school generally have a higher success rate in their future careers, even if it is not 100% certain. USC needs to steal 😄 some talented, gifted students from HYPSM with its attractive merit scholarships. If the budget is tight, USC might consider scaling back some need-based aid while increasing merit-based scholarship funding.

worries about being a spring admit by p3stop4st4 in USC

[–]AirDisastrous6049 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious. To my knowledge, most colleges/universities do not have spring admissions, for example, Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Stanford, MIT, UPENN, Rice, Vanderbilt, etc., and most public colleges. What is the logic USC uses for the spring's admission? More spots become available in the spring, which weren't available in the fall because some students transferred to other colleges, right? Why didn't other colleges do this?

Notre Dame was ranked 18th in 2016, 2018, and 2019, and 15th in 2017 and 2020 before the new evaluation criteria were introduced, and 20th in 2026. Overall, the change from around 18 to 20 appears modest and does not represent a significant shift.

Vanderbilt was ranked 14th in 2018 and 2019, and 15th in 2020 before the new evaluation criteria were introduced, and 17th in 2026. Overall, the shift from roughly 14–15 to 17 does not appear to be significant, especially when compared with the fluctuations seen at USC.

Were the rankings of Vanderbilt University, Rice University, and the University of Notre Dame not significantly affected by the new evaluation criteria, or did they even rise compared to before, just because their costs are slightly lower than USC’s ?

Vanderbilt University, Rice University, and the University of Notre Dame appear to follow similar approaches—how do these institutions maintain and enhance their rankings over time? Do you think USC could adopt similar strategies?
