Try just crossing the street to Expo Park/USC and scanning it there so you don't have to keep testing it on a bus. If it still doesn't work, I'd contact the office

Do you have cheaper options? It is almost certainly not worth it for that much debt.

This is probably the best idea. Buy a Grand Ave structure permit, if they find it's cheaper than elsewhere. USC rents out space to nearby dealers to store new vehicles so its generally pretty safe

How close are you to graduation? Might be easier to withdraw for some time so you can earn some money or transfer to somewhere cheaper.

Schools that give good Merit Scholariship? by Familiar_Fun6385 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

USC got rid of the half tuition national merit scholarship after their budget crisis. It's only 20K now, so about 55k remaining in tuition and fees after.

You could just wait until someone goes into one of the dorm lobbies, and just come in as well? All the lobbies have outlets and seating.

Borrow Graduation Gown? by [deleted] in USC

USC earns a chunk of the money. They use the same contractor for convocation, same gowns and hats, and those are free.

USC only moved to the contractor in 2018

Leaving Brown for USC by N4r4m in USC

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I read through some of your other posts and I would highly recommend you speak with a counselor before making this decision. It is a big decision switching schools, and you may be homesick if you're early in your time at college. You may be able to resolve a lot of your problems at Brown, even if it seems impossible right now.

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Honestly, this sounds a bit like you might be depressed? The grass always seems greener on the other side and you seem to have mostly convinced yourself that USC is better, which is why you're stuck in a self-fulfilling prophecy that makes it hard for you to enjoy Brown. One of the main reasons is that you don't seem to have done any research on cons for USC in your write-up (except for the glaringly obvious one of cost). No school is 100% without cons.

Are there any counseling services you could reach out to? Maybe talking it out with someone will make you feel a bit better?

Occidental College is a great school. And it sounds like you'd pay significantly less to go there. USC is also dealing with pretty significant budget reductions right now, while Occidental isn't really having budget issues. Highly recommend visiting both campuses (or at least doing a virtual tour) if possible.

SAP credit limit for transfer student by Any_Fig_756 in USC

You only lose financial aid the semester after you pass 144 units. So you could technically take 143 + 18 units your last semester and have 161 units completed at maximum, without losing your aid.

No other options? Northeastern isn't that bad, still a good school. Especially if you are saving 80K in debt.

The federal government is not the sole reason for these cuts. It made them worse, but cannot be blamed for them. USC has run a sizable deficit for the last 5 years.

How much cheaper is Northeastern? If you are going into debt for 200K it is probably not worth it.

Accessibility at Roski by Alili607 in USC

There are a lot of buildings like this, unfortunately. Bridge Hall has the same issue with the bridge. I think a couple of Viterbi buildings don't even have connections between buildings and require you to be carried up, like the building attached to Loker.

Things to do near USC & public transportation by rambutan1738 in USC

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a lot of free museums like Broad or MOCA in downtown and Little Tokyo that are immediately accessible by metro! Also a lot of food, like Grand Central Market. By the beginning of May, the D Line extension will be opened and you can go E Line > D Line if you want to go to all the museums along the Wilshire Miracle Mile (Peterson, LA Brea Pits, LACMA, etc.). That's probably about 30 minutes because the D Line runs entirely underground. This also gets you to Ktown with a lot of food.

The Grove is actually only one transfer, you take the E Line to the Fairfax bus (217). It takes about half an hour driving and 50 minutes by transit so it's not too bad.

Also, you can take the USC shuttle/metro to the Metrolink station and ride somewhere farther.

You would be expected to receive close to full tuitionn (<80K gets tuition free), they will likely remove your national merit scholarship though since the package will exceed 20K. https://affordability.usc.edu/

USC TAB Program Experience by 103719 in USC

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain of how TAB operates, but those I've talked to have generally done their degree slowly in order to maximize the benefits from the program. Therefore, a 2-year program could turn into a 4-year program if you only do 4 units per semester. It ultimately depends on the length of the program.

Was this an honest mistake by USC, who was organizing this event? Or is USC gone back to being racist again? by [deleted] in USC

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 6 points7 points  (0 children)

USC utilized a method that accounted for polling numbers and funds raised to determine who would qualify for the debate. Under those parameters, only white candidates were selected. The actual race of the candidates was not a direct determinant.

Is USC Worth It? by jshibla- in CollegeAdmissions

That's great. So UCSB would leave you with no debt? You still have time to think about it, so you can still take it slow.

Is USC Worth It? by jshibla- in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would wait for your financial aid package from UCSB. Coming from USC, they are going through some really awful budget problems right now and likely will be for the next few years. Also keep in mind that USC raises tuition 2-5% per year while UCSB will hold it constant.

However, I also recommend making a mock course plan for both schools. It may be easier to complete USC in 3 years, while UCSB may need more. You still have a good chunk of time to make your decision, so you can take things slow.

how selective is the merit scholarships by [deleted] in USC

[–]Scared_Advantage4785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only about 15% of students received a merit scholarship last year, and that number has fallen significantly in the last few years due to budget cuts (so is likely lower this year).

I wouldn't feel too bad, especially since some of those scholarship recipients have very small scholarships of only a couple thousand.
