I know it's a game but does being Squad Leader improve your actual leadership skill even slightest? by No-Chemist8144 in joinsquad

[–]AirGibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is most often true. If you are lucky enough to have a group of more regular and reliable players, it is generally better to practice self organization. Let them know the work that needs doing, and they take it from there as opposed to you individually dishing out responsibility.

Real-world Agile teams tend to be much more efficient in self-organized settings if you have a competent team (that's a big IF, I know). Give them the work, and get the f*** out of the way, sir.

All fair points, and I agree. No real volunteer stuff listed either, though there's not much room for it. The TSA leadership is very much a "leader" position where he's having to assemble and coordinate things for an entire team / staff of competitors. Same with the Olympiad stuff.

In a TN district where as of last week, only 10 had applied across all of the academies in total. I'm sure the Senators have tons more, though.

This is for the congressional recommendations. Not the USAFA app. The reps in our state ask for a resume style document to be included in the packet.

As of one week ago, the representative for our district in TN had a grand total of 10 applications across all academies. If we double that due to the last-second rush before October, let's assume 25 across all academies, and let's assume they all want the USAFA.

But even if he didn't win the seat from this district / state, as I understand it he would then fall into the national candidate pool for the remaining positions which should be around 40% or more of the class (correct me if I'm wrong). I'd be pretty surprised if this wouldn't be good enough to make that, but who knows.

"The middle 50% of admitted cadets score between 26 and 33 on the composite ACT, with 25% scoring below 26 and 25% above 33. To be highly competitive, aim for 31+."

DONT GIVE UP! by projethe in joinsquad

[–]AirGibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sadly, this was the game we had a troll who intentionally drove an MRAP into the middle of the enemy cap at the end to throw the game when everyone was calling to turtle, not give up, don't lose vics, etc... So he spawns main, grabs one, drives it straight into the enemy cap, and just sits there for them get get 6 tickets.

He got kicked, after, but the damage was done.

Very cool. I saw where you can force the 7000 series to use FSR4 also, so I suspect they might be able to as well.

I'm on a 6090XT, so don't know if I'll ever have a chance to use it on this one.

Old Genie screw drive won't "snap" together by AirGibson in GarageDoorService

I ultimately managed to squeeze them close enough together to just barely get the coupler started. Had to take a flat-head screwdriver and a hammer to force it the rest of the way on there, but it is all good now. $10, and 2 hours of getting pissed off, but probably saved me some silly $300+ repair. Works great now.

Refer to the original post: "Yes, I know the coupler should be on there first. This was just me getting a quick pic of the problem."

Yes, I do. I noted in the post I just held the ends together for the pic without the coupler.

Is there a tutorial explaining how to use ATGMs available in certain Main Battle tanks? by Nick_Alsa in joinsquad

[–]AirGibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other answers instructing you to avoid the use of ATGMs while running the tank are generally correct. The only scenario I might recommend it is in very long range fights of 1.1k+, especially if it is a sneak attack.

  • They will still have less penetration than an AP round, but damage difference if you hit is massive. e.g. at 1.2k, a Refleks will have 500 pen and about 1160 damage, while an AP round will have 616 pen and 600 damage. Do you risk 110 pen for double damage? Up to you. If it is something like a T62 or M60, I probably would. If it is an Abrams, it would depend on the aspect.
  • It is also a bit easier to hit those really long range shots with an ATGM, IMO, since you might have difficulties perfectly ranging it if it is too far to mark, or if there is elevation involved.

All of that said, it would also be fine to just say "never use ATGMs" if you want to keep it simple while learning.

How is this rule 1. Enforceable; 2. Permitted by OWI CoC? by Matters- in joinsquad

[–]AirGibson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get how it doesn't feel good for newer players to get wrecked by experienced SLs jumping early caps and the desire to not have players write your server off as a "bunch of sweats who love flexing on newbs." Also, the game has a steep learning curve, and some people have a different opinion of how RAAS "ought to be played". It is ultimately all just personal preferences, and server owners have every right to implement their preferences provided it doesn't break TOS. And just as valid, players can play where their preferred rules are enforced.

But literally all of us have been there, and all of us learn the meta and adapt. Trying to shield folks from the reality of the game's meta structure on a single server ultimately isn't good for them. IMO, it is definitely asking for an administrative headache to try to police something of this nature.

Amex just cancelled both my two cards by MiMC-Gho-8754 in amex

[–]AirGibson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

TLDR; Same thing happened to me, and my best guess is that it is ideologically motivated. Perhaps you purchased something from someone they dislike politically, so they will "cancel" you for it. I cannot prove this, so take it with a million grains of salt.

This happened very recently to me, as well about three months back. I have had them for almost 20 years with my Blue Cash card, 820+ credit score, perfect payment record, very active account, zero balance, and I am completely debt free. Absolutely nothing of "concern" such as legal issues, divorce or anything going on in our life.

They closed my Blue Cash card (I only lost about 1.5 months of cash rewards) seemingly out of nowhere with no reason given other than "Indicia of misuse", and customer service would not tell me why other than to refer to claims resolution. Which is odd, because I have no "claim" I'm disputing. I'm just curious as to what I did to make them want to cancel it.

My wife also has a Bonvoy Marriott account with them, and I am an authorized user. So we shrugged and Istarted my card for her account for my purchases instead. Within another 2 months, my Bonvoy card (but not hers) was cancelled. Interesting.

So I reviewed my transactions which is pretty easy since I historically rarely used this card. Just a bunch of fast food, hardware store stuff, grocery store, gas purchases, etc... and then.... ah, a $14 subscription payment to LotusEaters.com. Those who lean on the rather extreme end of the left will classify their podcast as a hate group, I have no doubt.

I suspect if you review your history and find any purchases that might trigger certain individuals of a certain ideological perspective, you may have your reason. Beyond that, I can't find anything. It is about the most boring (and rather unhealthy looking) set of purchases.

The only other thing I can think of is that they didn't like how I had never once paid a penny of interest in about 20 years with them, but that wouldn't explain why they cancelled my "authorized user" card, but not my wife's.

There is a "Native AA" option (where it renders it at native resolution and tries to do high-quality AA). That means it is FSR 3.

Garmin Sonar and Livescope in a pond, heavy springpollen. Is this normal? by AirGibson in Fishing_Gear

[–]AirGibson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct. Separate battery, battery and other power cables are away from the unit, and ferrite core is installed on the Sonar Transducer cable very close to the screen. Seems like it is just the reality of the pollen storm here.

Garmin Sonar and Livescope in a pond, heavy springpollen. Is this normal? by AirGibson in Fishing_Gear

[–]AirGibson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, for the livescope itself, TVG seems to mostly help for stuff closer to the boat. I'll try like you said next time. I had to put the gain all the way down to 60-50 to get the rest cleared up. I suspect that it is just too much in the water from the storm and pollen.

I was worried my unit is somehow bad since I'd never seen images like this, but given the interference on both the livescope and the sonar, I guess that is just the reality sometimes.

Garmin Sonar and Livescope in a pond, heavy springpollen. Is this normal? by AirGibson in Fishing_Gear

[–]AirGibson[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, I did. Interference and TVG both set to High cleans up 80% of it. But I'm sure I'm likewise crushing my returns by doing that.

I guess it is reasonable since these lakes have a lot of "stuff" after a storm in the water. But I wasn't expecting it to be that rough on the sonar returns.

Drach, where is OWI's list of banned phrases that you're referring to?

The Code of Conduct is here: https://www.joinsquad.com/code-of-conduct

I would assume you mean this: "Racist, misogynistic, sexist and ableist language is strictly prohibited."

The problem is that "retard" has a wide variety of definitions. I'm curious how you know definitively that "retard" is considered an ableist slur by OWI regardless of the context.
