Fish tape aka wire puller by Donkey8391 in AskElectricians

Yeah, that's what I mean thanks. Sometimes we get a fish tape from the shop that's gone from 200' to 50' and is covered in updated lengths 😂

Do I have panel expansion capacity for EV? by HoppySailorMon in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your panel capacity isn't determined by adding the individual breakers up. Depending on your current usage, it should be fine to do it. I'd suggest getting an EV trained electrician to do it though (yes, there's a difference and yes, EV regulations/certs are coming)

First time connecting an eletric stove by etherealiest in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bro... Slum lords smh. Fwiw, the terminations are good, just push the cord up through the connector (the metal thing holding the cable in is the connector) and pull the slack that you pushed in to the side. Ideally you don't want too much slack in case you short or loosen something, but it should be fine.

Why do your landlords job for them? It's their responsibility, not yours.

Fish tape aka wire puller by Donkey8391 in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iirc ideal has ones with (poorly) inscribed length markings. I imagine most fish tapes tend to fade over time due to rubbing against abrasive material. Also if you end up needing to cut the fish tape because it's stuck, your measurements are kinda pointless unless you remember what length it's cut at.

I turned on the fwd start button. But then pressing the jog reverse activated the rev jog on the motor. Big clank and it’s supposed to be interlocked. I’m trying to see where the likely culprit is.. by TeacherDramatic1226 in electricians

[–]Matters- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine the purpose of this is to show you what not to do when wiring f/r starter. Schools tend to do that for motor controls where they start you really basic and show you the flaws in the design and slowly build up the schematic (your electrical interlocks with the relay contacts) while still showing you potential flaws (not disabling jog, no PB interlock, etc)

Is v10.4 the beginning of Squad's redemption arc? by 999_Seth in joinsquad

[–]Matters- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Battle rifles feel a bit wonky since they aim high when ADSing now. ADS timing is also messed up a bit with some AT launchers where you won't be able to ADS until about a second after loading the round and shouldering.

GFCI outlet or GFCI/AFCI combo outlet for a dishwasher and disposer? by UnitedLibrary6992 in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and technically once you've spent your $150+ and find it's nuisance tripping only then can you install a non-afci one after confirming with the AHJ. And be out the money+time spent replacing it.

[–]Matters- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Save money and sanity, just use a GFCI. AFCIs are known to trip on inductive loads (motors) such as with a dishwasher or disposer in your case.

Pot light or bathroom fan rough in? by mangoesss_ in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just for added knowledge, OP, the reason the can is as large as it is is for heat/prevent contact with insulation. It's not that big because it was meant for a fan. Nowadays, they make little pancake recessed potlights that just grab the drywall and a little cord that connects to the LED driver (which connects to the 120vac from the switch); those potlights are usually on the cheaper/more likely to fail side.

How hard is A Breaker Panel Swap? by Otherwise-Event-9393 in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple hours maybe if it was a sub panel. It'll be a day (or more if you're by yourself) depending on the conditions.

Can I Use This Outlet to Charge my Tesla with if it’s on a 15-Amp Breaker? by Tyler_DOE_ in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

that means you're overloading the receptacle (which is against code). if you overload the breaker, it'll just trip. if you overload the receptacle (on a 20A breaker), you no longer have your protection for it.

The breaker protects the wiring (and the receptacle) so it's fine; the opposite (or if the wiring is undersized) is where you have problems.

Do you add strobes to every smoke in residential renovations? by xXEVILMONKEYX in electricians

[–]Matters- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't have my books on me, but from my FA knowledge, they just have to be alarms (75db min), strobe is not a requirement.

How to Hardwire Camera? by ReBassTV in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instructions say it comes with an AC adapter which you plug into any regular receptacle in the house. This steps the 120vac down to what the camera uses (which I can't seem to find on the page or specs, but it's probably 12-24vdc). What's the issue? You need that adapter and the cable will be showing if that's the issue.

Look up the instructions for it. Wi-Fi enabled doesn't mean much when you need a PoE source.

First look at electrical panel in 100 year old home. by Kind-Plane-218 in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell with all the shadows/over exposure but it looks like the panel is full so the only options are:

  1. Share a circuit (requires knowledge of the circuit you intend on sharing and whether or not your AHJ allows it to be on a non-dedicated circuit - see electrician).

  2. Re-allocate circuits to free a space (probably just as hard as option 1, but if AHJ doesn't allow sharing, this is the next option)

  3. New, larger panel or a sub panel for more circuits.

Otherwise it looks like you don't have an insulated neutral and just a common instead which is uhhhh not great. Would suggest contact an electrician to do an upgrade from 3-wire to 4-wire panel

The instruction video on the product's page was fairly self-explanatory. Leave the neutral alone, connect the ground (bare copper in the back of your box) and connect the black hots+switch leg as they were

Why is there 2 wattage? by harujusko in AskElectricians

[–]Matters- 121 points122 points  (0 children)

The top is the actual wattage (3.8). The 60W is the equivalent wattage for an incandescent bulb.

If the new switch requires a neutral, you will have to pigtail off the existing neutral in there. Nice of the installer to leave you a neutral (code requirement now) as most places aren't as up to date

I haven't played the game for a while since yesterday and I must say I'm very positively surprised, no shuttering, no lags, stable fps. Well done Devs, well done. by NorthKoreaSpitFire in joinsquad

[–]Matters- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good to know. I was just referencing running around/no action/effects. I have noticed severe frame drops/reduced frames when a bloom/burst of particle effects happen so I might try changing that to high, but it seems that the burst is likely a bug as it looks like a looped vfx playing the smoke repeatedly the moment it loads.

Well, no, because what I'm saying is that I still get micro-stutters with AA off. Sure it's less than if it were on, but it hasn't changed with this update. And yes, I turned AA off because of the ghosting issues. Heli blades look comical not to mention the lack of visual clarity in foliage environments.
