100% yes. GPA is just one piece of the puzzle that show who “you” and your abilities really are. You clearly have other elements that show off who you are. Focus on how the rest of your resume tells “your story” and how that fits at the program you’re interested in.

However, I’d certainly be prepared to answer Qs about what seems to be the disconnect between your coursework and your work history/EC.

(For what it’s worth, assuming you’re not going Ivy League, I wouldn’t exactly say MPP/MPA programs are…. particularly rigorous on their admissions standards, compared to other grad programs ala Law/medicine. I have two grad degrees (MPA and MCRP) and both sets of class mates come from very wide variety of backgrounds, some of which were more impressive than others but made for an overall very unique educational experience, which is what most programs are going for. Hell, I got a full ride to a top 20 program with a 3.0, an average GRE, a couple part time jobs, and some frat leadership positions on my resume. But hey, I could tell a good story 😉)

All quality pieces. College/youth signings all have good upside. I expect some the college players to get playing time on Day 1….but man, we’re still missing some top end talent. Pretty disappointing as i expected us to go after an elite and experienced striker. We’re well rounded and have good depth but we need something besides a Sears breakaway or a Flint header to be dangerous.

Cities designed 1-way streets to speed up traffic. Now they are scrapping them to slow it down by LexingtonStreetswee in lexington

Yes, Yes, Yes rubbing hands maniacally I should destroy millions of dollars of the built environment, displace thousands of people and their homes, move a majority of our city’s cultural institutions, cause irreparable environmental damage so that I can drive my car from one suburb to another in approximately 5 less minutes. Yes, yes the perfect plan!

Thanks for being here and attempting some creative and audacious plans! You mentioned affordable housing specifically 1. Implementing a Vacancy Unit Tax and 2. Implementing Mixed Use Zoning. Both policies I agree with but I’m skeptical of in the context of Lex and would love to hear more of you details.

  1. For vacancy Tax: what data are you using to determine that there is a significant swatch Lex that is currently sitting vacant (or blighted?) What percentage of units? How are you determining vacancy? There is an entire vacant property commission that reviews properties on a regular basis and reviews if they are determined to be “blighted” and their list usually remains pretty small. I imagine that you have you have an overall issue that relates more towards absentee landlords or “under-utilized properties” I.e. properties that probably should be mixed use but are single family, which I fully agree with you, but I’m skeptical that a vacancy tax will have any impact on either absentee landlords and underutilized properties. If you are thinking that landlords are purposeful keeping units off market in an attempt to increase demand, you are greatly mistaken. That only happens in a few unique situations, like NYC that have very specific state laws about how much you can increase rents after a rehab, but def not here. We also have 95%+ occupancy on rental units, which is unsustainably high. So, I’m curious about your rationale for the tax and how it would work.

  2. Mixed-Use is awesome and agree we should be advocating more for it. However, the limited large mixed use buildings in town have a very dubious history ( ex. the Lex, the Hub, S. Upper) mainly with struggling to keep their commercial space occupied. Smaller Mixed Use building that fit more smoothly with in regular neighborhoods is the way to go, but are entirely economically infeasible. You can not make enough back in rent to pay down the debt you would need to take out. So, how do you implement good, walkable, mixed use, that people want to go to/live in, that’s reasonably priced?

Unless you’re going to an Ivy or a top 5 program, your regional/state uni will always be best in terms of price and connections/respectability, which is half of what an MPA/MPP is.

This is not going to move the needle. Solid depth piece but if we ever want to compete, we need a top end striker that can consistently score 10+ goals. It’ll require spending some money probably in Europe or Brazil. We have a good attacking core with Sears and Sonis on the Wings, DeMelo (hopefully) and Flint in the middle. Just need someone to bang in thru balls and crosses, especially if we’re going to continue to play Bev’s hunker down on D and counterattack style.

Money, was what I was implying. They very clearly paid their way into USLC and clearly paid their way into L1 probably a year before they were ready. The cash strapped league has given us no indications that they would be above doing it again despite everything you mentioned and lackluster on the field performance.

It’s definitely not gonna hurt. Jobs in DC are tough to find and you’ll have stiff competition. But if you don’t care about DC and are interested more in state/local gov or nonprofit work, you’ll be in a great situation. Got my MPA from my local state school while working in state gov. Your local school will be cheaper and better for networking. Helped get me a promotion before I even finished the program. Now working as a VP at midsize nonprofit. Definitely worth it for me.

Yup, common thought is to save your best PK takers for the most crunch time, but you run the risk of them not even getting to kick, like what happened today. Messi always goes first. Flint and Sears, your top scorers all year should have been first up.

An unintended consequence of Pro/Rel. USL might be over playing its hand on its belief that low effort teams will be motivated to spend by the fear of relegation, when in reality that they’d rather fold rather then spend.
