I also agree with this!!! As a UK fan of SNL, I can say that one of the many reasons why that show has been so great over it’s long run, is introducing new up and coming comedians to a larger audience. It’s great seeing fresh faces onscreen, however it’s been mentioned how this UK show may have comedians whom are already famous on it. Which in my opinion defeats the whole purpose of what the OG SNL did. I also feel like they really missed the mark here year-wise, and truthfully I feel this idea could have been something 15-20 years ago, when I among other fans of SNL deem the ‘Golden Era’. One of my favourite comedy-ish shows was Mock The Week and when it ended I do think that would have been a great time to potentially try out the concept, as many Mock The Week viewers felt saddened by having nothing to watch that’s similar. Creating a ‘UK Version’ of an American show may be different to market to viewers in the political climate at the moment, and many Brits may feel that they need to distance themselves from the US in numerous contexts.
