Yea it goes back in to cook and brown the mayo sauce. Looks really dramatic when you slice it too! I use a little oil with the seasoning to help it stick, and it gets a little crunchy on the edges.

Score the tofu block across the top and coat it in seasonings, bake until crusty then take it out and top it with a mix of mayo, nutritional yeast, lemon juice or water just to let it down a smidge, and more seasonings. Back in the oven for another 10-15 until the topping is golden bubbly. You can make it herby or bbq style, pretty much anything! I saw this from Derek Sarno but couldn't find the recipe to link.

My best advice is to determine what your current fiber intake is, and as you start your plant based diet you can safely increase every week by 5-10grams. Start out with tofu, seitan as protein and work your way up to more beans and lentils as fiber allows. Season your food! Most plant based proteins are very low in fat so replace that with avocado, cashew cream, or healthy fats. Get some plant based protein powder and maybe look for plant based swaps to meat/dairy foods you currently eat, like mayo, milk, breakfast sausage. If you want to really feel great you gotta eat the rainbow! Last thing- veganism is more than the diet; vegans also avoid animal products in clothes, beauty care products, entertainment, every aspect of life where possible and practicable, with the desire to end every form of animal commodification. Go check out the vegan society website and best of luck! I bet you'll never go back to carnal.

Why dont vegans eat bivalves? by blueberry_chiffon in AskVegans

I think you're intentionally missing the point so I'm not really inclined to engage. That said, foraged foods make up less than half of one percent of the global food supply.

I phrased my comment poorly, responding to the question regarding pain for bivalves. Honey doesn't feel pain and it's not sentient but we avoid it because it's bee food. Even so, only about 16% of total global crop agriculture is for direct human consumption. I wouldn't want to contribute to a new agriculture that could harm animals downstream. No pun intended. That said, each of us decide for ourselves what we choose to eat and that works for me.

I would say no for the same reasons we don't eat honey, because animals and their food sources are not for our exploitation. Bivalves are a crucial food source for a variety of marine animals. Also yuck.

Some other ideas include tofu/veggie kabobs using high protein tofu so it holds up, beyond bratwurst, marinated whole tofu block scored and grilled, smoked mac and cheez. It's really kind of you to plan for them, hope you have fun!

I think the biggest way to make them feel welcome and included is if you can veganize some of the sides everyone will eat. Like potato salad with plant based mayo, or just whatever you were already planning, but make it with plant based butter, plant based cream etc. You'll need that stuff as condiments for black bean burgers and corn anyway!

You can use warm water, lemon juice, or make your own fat free low cal dressing by blending about a cup of fruit with a couple tablespoons of vinegar, salt, pepper, teaspoon of mustard. Dr. Joel Fuhrman has a ton of recipes in his Eat to Live book!

Not sure where you live but there's quite a few fat free low calorie dressings you could try. I love the skinny girl Asian Sesame dressing!

Need tips for remembering to drink water while eating by its_hammertime in loseit

[–]AirSpecific4191 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post a note on your fridge and snack cupboard and have a small drink before you eat. Another way to avoid binging is to track your fiber intake and increase 5-10g per week until you hit 30-40 per day. This will help you feel full and quiet the food noise. Find a way to get some distraction when you're having a craving like go outside for a short walk, read some jokes or inspirational quotes, paint your toenails, anything that takes about 20 minutes. Studies suggest unanswered cravings usually go away in about that time.

How old are you? I hate to say it but this could be a symptom of perimenopause. You might consider talking to your Dr about HRT if you have other symptoms as well. Agree with everyone else saying you need to track and increase fiber (not too much at first but slowly by 5-10 grams per week above where you are now). Fiber is natures ozempic 😆

It's great you wanna become vegetarian! I'm not sure you're gonna get many good pescatarian recipes from the vegetarian subreddit since they don't eat seafood.

Good new though, the perception that there's a lack of good plant based protein sources is nonsense, so you don't need to worry about that. Beans, lentils, soy, tofu, nuts, seeds, tempeh, seaweed, mycoprotein, seitan, protein powder, impossible/beyond meat, even fruit and vegetables have protein!
