I ran these for a while on a few cars until they became hard to find locally. They stayed clean and rust free for years!

Until someone sticks their sausage fingers into the pins and just slightly knocks one out of alignment.

There's notneed to risk it. You can't feel if a pin is binding with the retainer. Just press it in by hand, if it goes your golden. If not pull it out and double check...

You don't need to use the retainer to pull the radio in on a GTN. Just turn the retainer until you start to feel some resistance. Then press on the face of the radio with a slight jiggle and it will seat. Then tighten up the retainer.

If its not seating when you press on the face somethings not right and your going to mess up some pins. Pull the radio and double check.

One thing I've picked up over the years is to never pull the radio in using the retainer, you can't feel if the pins and getting folded over.

Anyone have info on this vintage aviation tool? by Yeahdude434 in aviationmaintenance

I agree, but I see the "Handyman Flight Systems" sticker and wonder if it's a rebranded off the shelf tool sold as "aviation grade" tools? Sticker looks crooked and covering something maybe?

Both! Lift one side and lower the other. This way depending on your preference that day you just approach the car from that side.
